Where Awesome Book Readers Meet Awesome Writers

  1. Scareplane And Other Chilling Tales Of Terror! by Clint Gleason

Summer-Winter-SalvageAbout Scareplane And Other Chilling Tales Of Terror! by Clint Gleason:

Some avoid traveling by plane, enclosed places, crowds, or even the ocean because of the creatures hunting under its cold, mysterious surface. Snakes make some feel nauseous because deep down we all know they would eat us if they could. So would spiders if they were large enough.

There are many fears but we all have one in common: the dark. From birth to death, and no matter what age, we’ll choose to turn that light on. It’s instinct. It comes from some deep, primitive place within us. Darkness represents the unknown, that there could be something waiting to attack or watching with plans so sinister that we’d rather not think about it. Except being afraid can be fun when there are no consequences.

This collection of stories is a bit of that darkness, the unknown, the possibility that reading it might result in a sudden surge of adrenaline that spikes the heart rate, or causes goose flesh. Settle into your most comfortable reading place, where you feel the most safe. I promise that what you read in this eBook won’t hurt you, but don’t be surprised when the tales within begin seeping into your psyche…

*Collection includes the Scare trilogy, Him, Midnight Men, Hammock Spiders, and World Savin’ Granny

  2. Breaking TWIG by Deborah Epperson

8 x 10 updatedAbout Breaking TWIG by Deborah Epperson:

Set in the rural South in the 60s and 70s, Breaking TWIG tells the story of thirteen-year-old Becky (Twig) Cooper, who is trying to survive the physical and emotional abuse of her mother, Helen, a calculating woman who can, with a mere look, send the meanest cur in Sugardale, Georgia running for its life. Not even Twig’s vivid imagination and keen wit are enough to help her endure the assaults of Helen and a new stepbrother, but help comes from an unexpected source—Frank, her stepfather. Sometimes, having one person who believes in you is all a girl needs to keep hope alive.

Over the next eight years, Becky’s tumultuous struggle to prevail—becoming neither a “pick” (victim) nor a “picker” (abuser)—finds her bouncing back and forth between Helen’s abuse and Frank’s tenderness as she fights to win this desperate battle of souls. She infuses her tale of torment and triumphs with a blend of dark humor and endearing wit, as when describing Helen, Becky declares, “I may not be the smartest squirrel in the tree, but I know a nut when I see one.”

Just as she begins to feel life holds some promise, Becky’s world crumbles. On Halloween night, she and Helen argue and all lies are stripped away. Now that she knows the shocking truth about her mother, Becky must make a fateful decision—one that can give her the freedom she craves or destroy forever the new life and new love she has finally found.

Sprinkled with all the southern flavoring found in a hearty bowl of chicken and dumplings, Breaking TWIG is about finding love where we least expect it, destroying lives with easy lies, and realizing each of us determine our own truth.

    Author Bio:
P.G. Glynn lives in the quirky ancient town of Totnes, close to glorious Dartmoor and not far from the sea at Torbay and Dartmouth. She is inspired, (and tries not to be daunted!) on her morning walks beside the Dart, by the knowledge that Agatha Christie could see this same river from her holiday home – Greenways – and that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is said to have set The Hound Of The Baskervilles on Dartmoor.

To date she has written five novels – the genres ranging from a romantic saga, a paranormal romance and a ghost story to dog stories and animal stories. She was able to relax while writing her most recent book, Sam’s Story: It’s A Dog’s Life. Why? Because this was mostly written by her charismatic Bearded Collie, Sam, with just a little input from her!

  7. Through the Gloaming

    gloaming-coverAbout Through the Gloaming:

Through the Gloaming is book 2 in The Silver Flute Trilogy. It’s aimed primarily at young adults, but can be read by adults too. The stories centre around the main protagonist, Jeremiah Tully. Half Elwyn, half human and also mute from birth; he is a musician of remarkable ability. His instrument is a silver flute, left for him by his absentee mother, full blooded Elwyn, Sylvan.

The story progresses from the first book, Land of Midnight Days, into the Gloaming, an underground city of lost souls, where Jeremiah, and his companions, must search for a way to destroy the Midnight Land, and free the upper world of its infestation of ogres and demons.

Along the way, Jeremiah discovers more about himself, and the real use to which his musical talent must be put. He discovers horrifying facts about his father, Abraham Tully, and the use to which he put his two sons as part of an experiment to blend human/ogre genes and Elwyn/ogre genes. He also discovers the part his mother played in thwarting Abraham’s plans.

Fast paced, and filled with dark magic, shape shifters, and much more, Through the Gloaming is a fresh take on the genre of urban fantasy, a dark faerie tale for young, and not so young, alike.

    Author Bio:
My name is Katrina Jack and I write YA urban fantasy. I began writing many years ago. A few years back I had a bit of a windfall and invested some of it in obtaining a degree in creative writing at Liverpool John Moores University.

Although I primarily write urban fantasy, I also enjoy other genres, such as murder mysteries, romance and biographies. My favourite authors, in the fantasy genre are: Robin Hobb, Jim Butcher, David Gemmell, Jack Vance and many more.

I was born in October 1956, in the wonderful city of Liverpool, at the now demolished hospital known as Sefton General, which was so ill equipped in those days, that my poor mother’s drip was hung from an old broom pole! Talk about the lap of luxury, eh?

I still live in Liverpool, in an area rich in public gardens and parks, plus a cemetery and a crematorium – great for inspiration, believe it or not. Included in some of the wonderful historical buildings in the area, is the mansion house known as Allerton Hall, former home of Richard Lathom, who fought as a Royalist during the civil war and is a grade II listed building. It makes a guest appearance in my novel, under a different guise of course.
