  1. ‘Tales of Rhythm & Music Notes’ by Chrissy Tetley

About ‘Tales of Rhythm & Music Notes’ by Chrissy Tetley:

Wombat is having cello lessons but is finding that learning how to read music and understand the meaning of music notes and values, is much too hard to understand.

Accompanied by Koe Koala and Pocket, the red kangaroo, Wombat visits the Music Shed where the animals enjoy movement and rhythm discussions with Professor Anacrusis.

But while they are busy working out note values, and playing with music notes in the train carriages, there is trouble brewing at the Music Shed. So what really happens when some of the music notes decide to run away?

    Author Bio:
OK I admit it. I write stories about bush animals learning music.

The ideas came from teaching children about the joys of music, and when I told them fun stories about animals learning music, they thought this was ‘cool!’

Last year was such a special year in which I stepped over the line from class room teacher and musician, replacing hectic with glam pyjamas, coffee, breakfast, dog training and looking after our small farm with its variety of fun farm animals, to become an author of stories and books for children’s music education.

Music is such a rich experience and everyone should know as much about music as they can. But music theory can be so complicated.

Our books and stories written for Music on the Bookshelf have been developed to provide storybooks about music for young children, and chapter books for primary age children. [ In print, EBook and audio book formats.]

The engaging stories encourage discussion about why music makes us feel so good, giving all students the opportunity to enrich their lives through the understanding of music and musical instruments.

Old fashioned story telling that sneaks a musical education in the background.

I have enjoyed playing flute in productions ranging from Musical Comedy to Savoy Operas, Arts Theatre Children’s productions and Concert Society Orchestras. Any other spare moments, musically speaking, were involved with friends playing in the musical ensembles, for weddings and private functions.

About Lines of Space by Devinder Dhiman

Sahil is a student aspiring to get admission to an engineering institute, but finds it difficult to understand science. Then his father undertakes the task of helping him, and in the process, finds himself contemplating on the reasoning of origin of Matter and the Universe. He develops an interest to find out how everything in the Universe originated. Big-Bang theory of Origin of Universe does not seem convincing to him. So, he continues his quest and contemplation further, and explores the possibility of creation of Universe from Space in some other manner. He finds very interesting connections in some invisible medium of space and various aspects of physics. Though, he provides elucidation to Sahil on the predominant theories of science, yet he secretly keeps working on his own idea of invisible medium of space, where, he is necessitated to part ways with the prevailing theories. He named this medium as ‘Lines of Space’ and un-intimidated by the deep-rooted theories of renowned scientists, he delves into a new arena, giving an entirely new and different derivation to gravitation and theory of relativity. Based on his new formulation, he submits a paradigm modification in the structure of matter and puts forward the explanation, how universe got created from space itself. This notion is presented in a very interesting manner, with the help of various illustrations, to make it easy to understand by everyone.

  5. Red, White & Blues

    Book-CoverAbout Red, White & Blues:

Review: “Sage presents a great wealth of strong, well-portrayed woman characters in this book. More than once a female character says that women are the stronger sex. Make no mistake about it, this unsung book is a giant accomplishment. L.V. Sage brings to life a huge multiracial cast of characters who are skillfully individualized. Also, the Zeitgeist of the time is fully captured. We get a huge, living tableau of realistic, flesh-and-blood characters whom this reader grew to know, love, root for, and feel terrible about when they were wounded, bled, and died. The author presents us with lives in America that are rarely seen in serious fiction, and these lives are portrayed in an evenhanded, non-judgmental, non-sensational manner. I highly recommend this book to readers in search of a book that extols and makes believable the healing force of being a member of an outlaw biker club.” -EXCERPT David Willson, Vietnam Veterans of America

    About:

DID YOU SURVIVE THE 1960′s & 70′s WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM YOUR FRIENDS?

Mike & Lucas Blackhorse, Ojibwa brothers from Wisconsin, take radically different paths only to end up together. Morgan Stewart & John Clark step from the fields of Vietnam into the Souls of Liberty Motorcycle Club where their need for a brotherhood lifestyle is met. Sandy Porter, Julie Scott & Sarah Somerton are just three of the women who follow their free spirits to San Francisco. Through thirteen years of turbulence, sex & drugs, highs & lows one thing never waivers: true friendships only get stronger.

    Author Bio:
Born and raised in Southern California during the 1960′s and 70′s, I always had a feeling that I was born just a little too late. I longed to be just a little bit older so I could hang out with the cool teenagers and twenty-somethings in my neighborhood. My imagination was strong, though, and it carried my along until I finally decided to write a story about those cool people. My novel, “Red, White & Blues” is a tribute to those turbulent and exciting times and the people who lived through them. And those that did not. While it is based on a very definite time in history, it is definitely not meant to be read like non-fiction. There are liberties that are taken when it comes to details, so just remember that this is a work of fiction. In any case, these are people that you will love and root for for the most part, but they are not perfect. Most are flawed-like all of us. A sequel is also in the works that picks up two years after where “Red, White & Blues” ends and follows the main characters as well as their coming-of-age children.

About Inside/Outside: One Woman’s Recovery from Abuse and a Religious Cult by Jenny Hayworth

FREE ebook giveaway on 4-6 April 2014 inclusive

Inside/Outside is a memoir: Jenny Hayworth grew up experiencing harrowing abuse not only from her paternal grandfather but a stranger and then an elder in the congregation (church) her family associated with. The church abuse went on for six years. Jenny told no one due to fear of God and feeling like she was a participant and not a victim even though she was only 11 years old when the abuse started and the perpetrator was in his 60′s.

It was not until her eldest two children were abused by a member of the church and she confronted her own sexual abuse revealing this to two elders that she was shocked to discover that if there had not been two adult witnesses to her childhood abuse then she could not be believed and she was counselled to be quiet otherwise she could be disfellowshipped (excommunicated) for gossip and slander.

She commenced a journey of healing for herself and her children that involved leaving the congregation she had grown up in, being shunned by all family and friends for doing so and having to remake her life and identity without her childhood faith or any support.

It was a six year period of healing that is inspirational to read and although it led to her losing all she had ever known she gained more than she could have imagined.

  7. The Cut-Out

    The-Cut-OutAbout The Cut-Out:

LOGLINE: When the American called me up and said he wanted to talk, I never imagined he would tell me what he did: that someone of global renown, “within days from now”, would be assassinated. Why tell me? A low-key conspiracy journalist? I didn’t know. And quite frankly, I didn’t believe him, either—until the assassination happened…

SYNOPSIS: Britain in the nineties was obsessed with the X-Files. The high street was awash with X-Files type magazines, and as senior editor of the biggest selling one on the market, I was accustomed to receiving phone calls from anonymous sources promising inside information. So when the American called me up and said he wanted to talk, I took it in my stride. Why wouldn’t I? He was a former Special Forces Green Beret, he said. A CIA runner. He also said that the information he had was best not divulged over the telephone. So we arranged to meet. Nothing unusual in that.

What was unusual, though, was what the American told me, not at our first meeting, but at a subsequent one some months later. On this occasion he said he’d been made aware of an imminent prime-target assassination, that “one of the most prominent figures on the world stage” was about to be taken out, “within days from now”, though he claimed he was unable to reveal who the target was.

“Watch the news networks. You’ll know who it is soon enough.” He added: “The media will tell you it was an accident. You’ll know it wasn’t.”

I came away not knowing if I’d been fed a line or let in on the world’s most terrible secret. And I had no way of finding out, either, other than to wait, and watch the news.

I didn’t have to wait long. Because a week later the “accident” the American had alluded to was all over the news: the assassination he’d forewarned me about had happened.

Of course, at this stage I had no idea I was being set up. Only that I’d been told something I wished I’d never been told. And that, because I had, I now faced the most terrifying challenge of my life—to get to the truth before the intelligence agencies got to me…

ME: I’m a published author and optioned screenwriter with a background in music and journalism (although it should be said my foray into the world of commas and colons was solely the result of my failure in the world of quavers and crotchets!).

THE EDITOR: For a good chunk of the 1990s and early 2000s I was editor of the popular high street magazines, UFO Reality and Odyssey, an enterprise which led to the publication of my first ‘proper’ book, Cosmic Top Secret: The Unseen Agenda (Hodder & Stoughton ISBN: 0-340-70822-0).

THE AUTHOR: Some of you, though, might know me best for my two top-selling books on the death of Princess Diana (Princess Diana: The Hidden Evidence and Princess Diana: The Evidence), both of which were published by SPI Books New York and penned with my co-author, John Beveridge.

THE CUT-OUT: My latest book, The Cut-Out, is an autobiographical spy thriller based on the conspiracy surrounding Diana’s death and the unwitting role I was earmarked to play in that conspiracy. A film based on The Cut-Out is currently in development.

  8. People Like Us by D.Z.C.

amazon-cover3About People Like Us by D.Z.C.:

It should have been easy, Nicolas Keszthelyi knew. The nuns at the Carmelite convent of Notre-Dame-de-Pitié had no idea that their collection of religious bric-a-brac contained a lost masterpiece worth millions. Anyone could have walked away with it. Certainly an unscrupulous dealer like Keszthelyi – with a network of shady contacts and an amoral devotion to beauty – should have had no trouble at all…

    Should.

Now two people are dead, the convent has been burnt to the ground, and the work of art has vanished. Nicolas Keszthelyi is fleeing from the forces of law and order, and the only way for him to escape the consequences of his actions is to tell the whole story, including the parts that the police would rather stayed hidden.

People Like Us is a story about aesthetics, unrequited love, and what to do with frozen courgettes.

I was always an avid reader. A couple of years ago I started fooling around with tablets and smartphones and my consumption of books started to skyrocket!

For some reason, I gravitated to dystopian and post-apocalyptic writing. Strangely, I found reading about the end of the world interesting. I guess it all started with “The Road” by Cormac McCarthy-easily the toughest novel I had read up to that time. Somewhere between reading it and other books about the apocalypse, “Sometimes We Ran” was born.

I currently reside in Woodstock in the great state of Georgia. I have been working for the last ten years as a CAD operator drawing permits and mapping utilities. When I’m not working, (or trying to write coherent sentences) you can find me taking care of my two aging Pontiac Firebirds.
