   Tamara Murray learned she had a knack for management and leadership when people kept asking her to do it, despite her lack of formal management training. At 16, as the youngest employee, she was promoted to assistant manager at a retail store. At 20, she managed cadres of parent and student volunteers at two nonprofits. At 22, she had a steady stream of interns under her purview. And at 26, a PR firm put her on its senior team, responsible for managing multiple account teams and clients. In every role, she managed people the same age or older, often with more experience and credentials.

   She found her footing through a combination of trial and error, reading a lot of Fast Company, and having the occasional breakdown in a colleague’s office. Eventually, people started using phrases like “one-of-a-kind leader,” “brings out the best in everyone,” and “trusted to deliver results,” to describe her management style.    Adam Gillrie had the unique experience of being home schooled and turning out socially acceptable. His home schooling gave him eight hours a day to write but left him horribly behind in math. Do not buy a book by Adam Gillrie for his math skills.

   I am an author, philosopher and educator in the American Southwest.

   The Impossible Lover is the culmination of a lifetime of varied interests, from Subjective Reality, to the Holy Grail, to the Illuminati and Conspiracy Theories to Steampunk. It is an exploration of the depths of soul to the heights of consciousness, mixing mythologies and paradigms to discover new love and realization.

   I began writing the story over 20 years ago, during the breakup of my first marriage, as an outlet for my intense emotions and weird interests in history, conspiracy theories and metaphysics. At the time, I knew nothing of writing, but I read voraciously. I learned as I went, reading books on writing, filling out index cards, diagramming plot twists, editing & polishing… polishing & editing.

   I worked on the manuscript off and on for decades, but never released it. Then, in 2010, the week before he died, my father, knowing of and sharing my literary aspirations, extracted a promise from me to revise and publish this grand dream of mine. He said the one thing he really regretted in his 86 years of life was that he had never seriously pursued his dream to be a science fiction author. He strongly urged me not to make the same mistake in my life, especially now that the internet was revolutionizing the publishing business.

   This series is the start of the fulfillment of my last and greatest promise to my father. Book One of the GrailChase Chronicles, An Impossible Lover, is out now, with Book Two coming out in spring 2014.    The GrailChase Chronicles encompasses my many interests in philosophy, history, conspiracy theory, metaphysics and the evolution of consciousness… and of course, Steampunk.

   A lot of the theory behind this series is conjecture and highly controversial, but makes for some interesting situations, as beautifully explored by Dan Brown in his wildly popular *The DaVinci Code* (which is based on some of these same theories). A wide knowledge of history, history of religion, sociology, culture and philosophy was required for me to fully grasp the historical and social implications of my story. In my pursuit of research, I ended up with a Ph.D. in Philosophy, and now teach ethics and humanities at the college level. There is a lot of philosophy in the book, everything from classical Greek to current ideas over the subjective nature of reality, and lots in between.

   The Victorian era, in which the GrailChase Chronicles are set, was a time when the Industrial Revolution was just beginning to pick up steam (pardon the pun!). It was a time that treasured craftsmanship and beauty in technology, as well as functionality. It was also a time of great social upheaval brought about by the increasing spread of industrialization, in which the old agricultural society was giving way to a modern, urban consumer culture. Old ways of life were dying out, and new ones were being born – much like our own era.

   Steampunk is an exploration of the road not taken. What if we had stuck to steam and other technologies, instead of moving into electronics and the internal combustion engine? In the GrailChase Chronicles, I not only explore the massive cultural changes, I also posit a whole new technology, based on obsolete theories posited during the Victorian era, but later disproven. In my stories, the power of these unexplored technologies not only exists, but are harnessed and applied to the eternal battle between good and evil.

   You have to know history in order to effectively re-write it.

   I’m is not only a writer of novels but also short stories and short- & feature-length screenplays. I was a semi-finalist in the 2009 British Short Screenplay Competition and was commissioned to write a 90-minute feature in 2012 for SeeView Pictures.
