Where Awesome Book Readers Meet Awesome Writers

  1. The Beautiful-Ugly by James Snyder

book1_72dpiAbout The Beautiful-Ugly by James Snyder:

Book One of The Beautiful-Ugly Trilogy. When sixteen-year-old Connelly Pierce wakes up inside an unknown psychiatric hospital, with both her wrists slashed, she begins the arduous task of piecing together the events of her life that led her there. Her own cognitive behavioral therapy (as she had learned so well from them). Starting with the sudden death of her mother and father when she was six, and the only world she knew disappeared, literally, overnight. That’s when, with no known or, at least, close relatives, she and her nine-year-old brother Eric find themselves cast into the nightmare quagmire of government child protection agencies, and Connelly begins her incredible, fourteen-year journey—her odyssey—into her own brave new world. A world, she realizes, she must not only quickly adapt, but fight back as well, if she hopes to survive.

    Author Bio:
James Snyder was born in Memphis, Tennessee and fell in love with the cadence and sound of storytelling as a child, listening to the meandering tales of his Southern grandmothers and great aunts. While still a child, his family moved to Napa Valley, California where he attended middle and high school, and began taking writing classes at the local college. He left after a year to join the military, and was a soldier with a tactical mobile operations unit in Germany. It was there, while pulling a Harz mountaintop guard duty one night during a snowstorm, he had the chance encounter with another soldier that ultimately became the genesis for his debut novel, a military thriller entitled, American Warrior.

The suspense thriller Desolation Run is his second novel.

Additionally, he has just released a YA trilogy: THE BEAUTIFUL-UGLY
    Book One: The Beautiful-Ugly
    Book Two: Into the Abyss
Book Three: Where All the Rivers Run

“Berlin Diaries” is his blog at JamesSnyder.net where he further discusses the backgrounds of this and other writings.

    He currently lives in Texas.

MinnieChase-Makes-a-Mistake-v2lightAbout Minnie Chase Makes A Mistake by Helen MacArthur:

    Think before you speak…

Minnie Chase is an ordinary girl and an extraordinary mathematician. She has a great job and a husband-to-be and loves them both. She is brilliant with numbers but finds people more of a challenge. She believes that if she can just master the art of being normal, her life might turn out right.

Ashton Greene is one of the most powerful and celebrated CEOs in business. He has the world at his feet and a glamorous fiancée at his side.

When Minnie meets Greene she has a sudden rush of words to the head and says something that she really, really shouldn’t have said. As a result, Greene’s perfect world is catastrophically turned upside down.

The subsequent fallout disastrously affects Minnie too. She sets out to correct her mistake, to put things right. She doesn’t know where to start or how to achieve this but she is determined to succeed.

She soon finds out that it is easier said than done.

I’m a copy editor to trade and have written for women’s magazines in the UK – including agony aunt columns, fashion makeovers and even 200 words trying to make bacon ‘sound sexy’ for a food magazine. Fiction is my first love though and Minnie Chase is my second book. I’ve also written Four Widows.

  3. Horizons Past

    HorizonsPast_Cover-6x9About Horizons Past:

Horizons Past is a romantic love story between Trish Lowe, a movie star, and Christopher Maven, a reclusive beach poet, that examines the possibility of two people with opposite lifestyles developing a lasting relationship, when all they have in common is a shared goal – to escape who they are. Guilt, “Hollywood,” and a hurricane all collide, keeping the resolution just out of reach until the reclusive poet and movie star learn – letting go of each other is even harder than letting go of the past.

Bill Stephens’ ability to place the reader in each scene is remarkable. Trish’s movie action scenes, and the roaring passages that tell of the hurricane’s destruction, are crisply detailed and lend urgency, and the love story’s realism transcends both Trish’s glamour and Chris’ guilt to make for an unanticipated and satisfying ending that readers will jump up and cheer.

“Horizons Past is a profound novel of transformation. The setting is stunning. A hurricane provides the thundering climax of this brilliant novel of human struggle and redemption.” – Florence Weinberg, Ph.D., author of Unrest in Eden

“What follows is a funny, romantic and dramatic story of fame, loss, and reconnection. You can smell it, taste it, and even feel the sand between your toes as you read.” – Cindy Leal Massey, author of Helotes, Fire Lillies, and The Texas Ranger and the Naturalist.

“Horizons Past by Bill Stephens is a terrific read! I felt as though I were walking along the beach with the sand between my toes. The characters are well drawn, interesting, and believable, and the story that binds them together a page-turner.” – Linda Shuler, author of Hidden Shadows.

Bill Stephens wrote over 1,000 weekly columns for Harte-Hanks, Murdoch, and Hearst newspapers. His features on wine, food, travel, and outdoor appeared in Wine News, Wine Enthusiast, Wine Spectator, Food & Wine, Chef, and Field & Stream.

For over 18 years he was the cliché newspaper columnist who had “The Novel” third drawer down in his desk. He finally pulled it out one day, and his debut novel, Horizons Past is the result. This mainstream love story was followed by Vámonos!A Humorous Action Adventrue Novel. The difference in styles made him assume the pseudonym, Lisa Ray, for Horizons Past.

Stephens is a graduate of The University of Texas and studied creative writing at Trinity University, San Antonio. 4. Perhaps I’ve Said Too Much

perf6.690x9.610.inddAbout Perhaps I’ve Said Too Much:

“Perhaps I’ve Said Too Much” is the much anticipated follow-up to the heralded, award-winning Things Go Wrong For Me. In his second book, Rodney continues to harass the reader with his dull wit and unique story-telling style. “Perhaps I’ve Said Too Much” is – literally – a Great Big Book of Messing with People. Full color, illustrated short stories of pranks, lies, and their inevitable – and hysterical – consequences. Complete with original hand-drawn artwork and graphics, one-two punch Brain Nuggets, and the ever-popular Draw Something Files, Perhaps will not disappoint.

Written by 2013 2-time Indie Award Winning humor author, Rodney Lacroix.

    Author Bio:
Rodney Lacroix is a comedian, father of two amazing kids, reluctant 40-hour-a-week software engineer and best-selling author. In 2013, Rodney was awarded an NGI Book Awards Medal for his memoir, “Things Go Wrong for Me.” This beautiful medal is currently on display around his neck because he has not taken it off since receiving it. Also he’s not very humble.

Rodney firmly believes that fabricating grandiose tales about one’s self makes a person more impressive. That’s exactly what he told Playgirl Magazine when they did a four-page nude spread of him.

It’s probably best you don’t believe anything Rodney says.
