Where Awesome Book Readers Meet Awesome Writers

  1. WICKED SENSE by Fabio Bueno

WickedSenseFabioBueno.ebookcover.compressedAbout WICKED SENSE by Fabio Bueno:

Winner, 2012 Sandy Literary Contest – 1st place – YA category

Witches inhabit our world, organized in covens and hiding behind a shroud of secrecy–the Veil.

Skye’s London coven sends her to Seattle’s Greenwood High to find the Singularity, an unusually gifted witch who may break the Veil and trigger a dangerous new era of witch-hunting. Things get complicated when Skye meets a charming new classmate, Drake. Skye’s job becomes even trickier when she clashes with Jane, an intimidating rival witch.

Drake falls for the mysterious Skye, but odd accidents, potion mix-ups, and the occasional brush with death kind of get in the way of romance. Once he discovers Skye is a witch, he goes to war for her, even though his only weapons are a nice set of abs and a sharp sense of humor.

Fighting off wicked Jane and the other dark forces hell-bent on seizing the Singularity’s immense power, Skye and Drake will risk everything to save the covens.

Going on a date has never been harder.

  2. The Sister by Max China

The-Sister-shadow-not-safe-outside-version-Dec-10About The Sister by Max China:

In the last, desperate, heart-thumping moments of dying, a man makes sense of his life . . . but can he let it go?

CORNWALL, ENGLAND. In the summer of love, 1967, two children witness a murder. One, a seven-year old boy, views it from fifty yards – the other, a young Irish girl, from miles away . . .

LONDON, 2006. With retirement looming, DCI John Kennedy reopens the only unresolved case in his career – the disappearance of a young nurse, Kathy, twenty-three years earlier. The broadcasted appeal for information on the missing teenage runaway, Eilise; is followed by a cold case reconstruction of Kathy’s last known movements. A new witness comes forward, and Kennedy – now set on the trail of a serial killer – unwittingly sparks a sequence of events leading back to himself, threatening his own, very private life.

As the investigation unfolds, it becomes apparent that the murderer is no ordinary adversary. Resourceful and cunning, he has been operating undetected for over forty years, and it seems that only the original witnesses from 1967 can stop him.

But they have yet to meet . . .

The Sister is a fast-paced epic story. Suspenseful, thrilling and compelling, it is a mystery that unravels over time, and explores the lives of a group of people blighted by exposure to a serial killer.
Criss-crossing genres, it is filled with plot twists and turns. Keeping the reader guessing from the start, it poses, among other questions . . . Is there life after death?

What people are saying about The Sister in America and the UK:

‘There are so many layers to this book and so many characters, but the author is able to not only keep all the balls in the air, but keep us turning the page (no easy feat in a book of this heft and scale). He has created a villain so uniquely evil and psychotic you won’t soon forget him. The book is almost two stories in one that collide and although there is resolution to the book, the author has set himself up brilliantly for a possible sequel. I know this is a self-published manuscript, but I have to believe there is a very smart publisher out there who would snap this up. This is a beautifully written and paced thriller by an excellent storyteller.’
‘It is unusual for a Crime Thriller to take all that is best in its genre and turn it inside out. The Sister is a rare gem . . .’
‘I read the first 5 chapters as a preview and then decided to buy it. After that, I could barely put it down. Very, very good!’
‘An edge of the seat thriller read that kept me reading long into the night . . .’

Max works as a construction professional, writing in his spare time. He says: ‘They say everyone has a book inside them just waiting to be written, and I’ve wanted to write mine since I was seventeen. It took a long time . . . Now that I’ve written one, I’ve started on another . . . I research anything that piques my interest with a passion. I love reading, writing, and listening to music, off road cycling, the great outdoors, freedom and much more besides . . . I am currently writing a spin-off novel featuring characters that made an appearance in The Sister.’

  3. Maiden’s Veil

    maidens-veilAbout Maiden’s Veil:

In the remote English countryside, tapestry weaver Clarinda Asher performs a pagan fertility ritual with a local landed man—a sacred union that ignites a firestorm and ultimately has her banished to a lonely hilltop above her village.

Three hundred years later, American Jess Barlow arrives in Maidenvale as the village celebrates a diluted version of that long-ago holy day. Together with the fair’s king of the May, Jess rediscovers—and ultimately reenacts—the ancient rite, which soon rips their lives apart. But the ritual’s potency has been revived, and events take an unexpected turn.

Maiden’s Veil’s alternating stories explore the psychological power of ritual, the complexities of love, and the small actions that can cause devastation far beyond our own hearts and out into our fragile communities.

    Author Bio:

Typing Gothic novelettes on paperback-size sheets of paper and stapling them together: my very first “publications.” I’ve been writing since my tween years, churning out short stories, poetry, and unfinished novels. But up until now, most of my writing has manifested in travel articles and copious amounts of content for websites.

Maiden’s Veil is my first full-length published novel. A half-contemporary, half-historical twining of stories, Maiden’s Veil was born during a trip to the UK, in which I planned to do research on a travel guide to Europe’s oldest festivals. As I witnessed a number of centuries-old traditions, many of them honoring May Day, or Beltane, I became inspired to write a fictional tale that reflected the essence behind these celebrations.

  4. The Advent of Lena, a Tale of Beauty and the Beast

b64About The Advent of Lena, a Tale of Beauty and the Beast:

Chloe Lambert is used to men looking at her twice but for all the wrong reasons – they cannot believe how ugly she is. She has no reason to think Park Delafield, of the perfect profile and cheek bones to die for, is any different when he insults her in a pub. But all is not as it seems, turns out he’s looking for salvation and has decided she’s the one. Only trouble is, Chloe’s not so sure.

When a stranger in a bar loudly comments on her appearance, Chloe Lambert can only assume that the remark which cut her to the bone was for him simply a casual aside. Park Delafield, however, at once struck down for his savagery by a friend of Chloe’s, is visited in his humiliation by the insight that only the love of the woman he has offended can redeem the despicable individual he has become. He sets out to win Chloe but she, bewildered by his attentions and repelled by his egotism, wants no part in his quest. Until his tireless persistence, combined with her own curiosity about his true personality and motives, soften her distrust of his sincerity. Warily she allows him into her life, thus seeding hurricanes of self-discovery, reckless commitment, and searing betrayal through which all involved journey toward disaster . . . or liberation and redemption.

    Author Bio:
I live on the west coast of Scotland, where I do landscape gardening and walk a lot amid splendid maritime and mountain scenery. I’ve always loved to write, finding it spiritually, psychologically and indeed physically beneficial.

The story of Beauty and the Beast has fascinated me since childhood. I was swept away by La Belle et la Bete – still am every time I see it – but it wasn’t until an event, described in the website below, took place in my own life that the seed was planted which later became The Advent of Lena.
