Where Awesome Book Readers Meet Awesome Writers

  1. SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST

    COVER-FRONTAbout SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST:

A modern detective story, a historical account of the struggles of one of the world’s greatest scientists, and a World War II espionage story, all in one book!

Does God REALLY exist? Are science and religion incompatible bed fellows? Charles Darwin shook philosophy to its foundations with his theory of evolution, yet strangely he himself refrained from commenting in depth about the religious implications for fear of adding to the furore.

But suppose that he did in fact write down his conclusions as a secret Addendum to his seminal work, ‘Origin of Species’. And suppose his beloved wife Emma, a devout Christian who kept her own secret journal, was the only other person to know of this hidden postscript.

This is the modern day story of the search for these two hugely significant works. An endearing and eccentric London antiquarian book dealer is hired by an equally eccentric American billionaire to track down the documents for his world famous collection of original manuscripts. Their complex investigation ranges across England from historic towns and stately piles to prisons and Darwin homes, and involves a series of encounters ranging from the criminal to the romantic and the revelatory. Along the way it explores the spiritual struggle within the extraordinary Darwin household, and the effects of that same struggle on the creation of the atom bomb and on modern terrorism.

A dramatic investigation of man’s spiritual dilemma which occupies the spaces between authors Dan Brown and Richard Dawkins. Do we want to know the answer, or will it stir up a hornet’s nest?

Extracts from reviews on the YouWriteOn authors’ website where it achieved a top five position:-

    • ‘This was the most fascinating piece of work I have read in a long time. I just couldn’t stop reading.’

    • ‘The writing is so precise well-formed that I feel somewhat humbled.’

    • ‘Amazing command of language, a keen eye for details and a warm expression of emotions based on very good understanding of the human nature.’

    • ‘The language is wonderful, with different styles playing out successfully which add to the story.’

    • ‘A very engaging writing style that carried me along. I felt I was on a journey that was going to be both exciting and illuminating.’

  2. The Black Ships by A.G. Claymore

Black-Ships-Cover-redesign1About The Black Ships by A.G. Claymore:

The Black Ships – First in the series
Our planet was just one small island in the midst of a vast, empty sea. For millennia, its inhabitants thought they were alone – until they took their first tentative steps out of the cradle. As the nations of Earth struggle to establish a fragile colony on the surface of Mars, they suddenly lose all contact with their settlers.

In the days that follow, it becomes abundantly clear that humans are not the only ones intent on exploiting the resources of the solar archipelago. In a desperate bid for freedom, Humanity must undergo social and economic changes on a scale previously unheard of.

In the midst of growing turmoil, the struggle to build an effective defense leads the species to a turning point. The smallest of chances may determine the difference between freedom or eternal subjugation.

Andrew spent eight years writing for the military as an intelligence operator. After leaving the army, he worked as an engineer until deciding to go back to writing. He lives now in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains where he writes science fiction on a full time basis.
Though he enjoys golf and skiing, his clubs and skis have sat in the garage for almost three years. He still sneaks in the occasional session of whitewater rafting and has formed the irrational opinion that owning equipment somehow prevents the enjoyment of a sport.
Considering the prohibitive cost of owning a full size raft and employing a guide, he may be onto something…

  3. The Prince Charming Hoax by Elyse Grant

ThePrinceCharmingHoaxecoverMedAbout The Prince Charming Hoax by Elyse Grant:

The Prince Charming Hoax is the steamy hot and often funny story of best friends Leah Gold and Roxanne Stein, two boomer women trying to break free of the “happily ever after” fairy tale myth of their childhoods.

Abandoned by her latest Prince Charming on the eve of what she expected to be the start of a new life, Leah is left without a home or a man. Frustrated by yet another disappointment in a string of romantic fiascos, she begins an introspective journey through her past for answers. When she discovers what really stands between her and happiness, she sets off on a mission to help spare other women the pain of looking for love in all the wrong places—even though she knows her crusade could be a battle that destroys her real prince.

In contrast to the reclusive Leah, her well-heeled best friend, Roxie, teeters on the edge of self-destruction as she tries to satisfy her unquenchable thirst for excitement. Drugs and sex don’t diminish her cravings, and the man she falls for, while charming, is no prince.

On a crazy trip from South Florida to Philadelphia and New York, the duo stumble onto how to save themselves, each other, and perhaps womankind—surprising everyone, especially themselves.

Elyse Grant is the pen name and one of three known personalities associated with Shelley Lieber, an author with a split personality.

“The Prince Charming Hoax,” her debut novel, introduces two boomer women with strong and sometimes conflicting personalities that match the author’s real-life alter egos: smart, creative, and nurturing vs. sassy, ambitious, and daring.

If you’re interested in knowing more about how the dual personalities of Shelley and Elyse emerged and what a spit-personality author faces daily, keep reading…

    Shelley says:

Some may know me as Shelley Lieber, The Wordy Woman, author and publishing consultant. In that persona I wrote “4Ps to Publishing Success” and “Publishing Made Easy & Profitable;” created the VIP Authors writers community; and founded Visual Impressions Publishing, a publishing vehicle for independent authors.

Elyse takes over…(Oh, please! If we wait for you to tell the story, these nice readers will be here all day…Besides, they’re not here to learn about you, anyway.)

My novel, THE PRINCE CHARMING HOAX, began life as a nonfiction book by Shelley Lieber that was going nowhere fast. I’m a fiction writer and I’d been waiting many years to emerge. My opportunity finally showed up one day when Shelley was struggling to organize and present all the stories she had conducted from her real-life interviews with divorced and separated women as research for the book. I saw her falter in frustration and I quickly jumped out and took over the keyboard, introducing her to the characters of Leah Gold and Roxanne Stein. Suddenly everything seemed to fall into place, and the story unfolded.

Shelley returns…Thanks, I’ll take it from here.

“The Prince Charming Hoax,” a sizzling hot story of self-growth and empowerment, was almost seven years in the making. While in the final editing stage and preparing for the release of the ebook, it occurred to me that I was also gearing up for my personal “release” as the author of erotic fiction. Contemplating these momentous events, I was struck by the realization that Shelley Lieber and Elyse Grant are the real-life models for Leah Gold and Roxanne Stein. Shelley and Leah are the “good girls,” smart, creative, with nurturing mom-type personalities. Roxie and Elyse are the “naughty girls,” sassy, ambitious, with a penchant for bending the rules and having fun.

By the way, a third personality common to Shelley and Elyse is Vegan Novelist, who writes about her adventures with vegan food and lifestyle. The truth is that every woman has multiple personalities within. Ours are just living it out publicly!

  4. Pink whale adventure by Uros Ustar

Pink-kindle1About Pink whale adventure by Uros Ustar:

It’s a short children story about two siblings, who with the help of a giant pink whale embark on a pirate island adventure. It is a great story full of vivid imagery and simple words. It’s a great way to curb your child’s imagination. The pictures are simple and tend to capture the children’s way of thinking, which gives a special tone to the book. It is a definite must for your child’s library.

When my 5 years son Kayt run out of the fairy tales on our holiday I have to do something. I have to use my imagination and come up with one of my own.

Since I have written and drawn almost all my life, it wasn’t an issue what to do. So the holidays ended with a bunch of stories that my son loved. We even invented new dwarfs and magic spells which will be introduced in a new special series that is coming soon.

Before publishing I gave the story to some friends who works in a kindergarten and primary school to see if the kids love the story. The result was amazing. The kids really liked it and they drew illustrations that I include in the book. The illustrations of the kids from kindergarten add a special touch.

Simple moral lesson in this children’s book is very relevant for both the young and old to realize that people are not all the same either. It stresses that it’s okay to be different. This book with it’s colorful illustrations, encourages children to be creative and just learn to enjoy what each has to offer.

  7. Sand Dollar: A Story of Undying Love

A9RED1A.tmp.pdfAbout Sand Dollar: A Story of Undying Love:

The story opens with Noah Hartman, eighty years old, lying on his deathbed recounting his life of love and loss to Josh, a compassionate orderly at the hospital. As Noah’s loved ones arrive one by one, they listen in on his story, and we’re transported back in time to Noah’s younger years.

Though outwardly seeming to have it all, Noah, now thirty-five, is actually an empty, lost, and broken man running on automatic pilot. He has no true identity due to having allowed his powerful, wealthy parents to manipulate, control, and brainwash him from a young age. With the threat of disinheritance and withholding love and approval if he doesn’t comply with the plan they have for his life, Noah is lured in by the reward of great wealth and the illusion of running the family business empire some day.

Enter Robin, twenty-five years old, who — in direct contrast to Noah — is a vivacious, free spirit. Full of life and always living in the moment, Robin’s love saves Noah by inspiring him to stand up to his parents and live his own life at all costs, reclaiming his true self.

They get married, and while snorkeling in the Caribbean, the captain of the boat warns them not to disturb anything in the sea. Ignoring the exhortation, Noah dives down and snags a sand dollar from the ocean floor, whereupon it explodes in his hand. With the fragile sand dollar taking on new significance, Robin inexplicably leaves Noah shortly after returning from their honeymoon. Like a passing breeze, she disappears out of his life without a trace, seemingly forever.

Years pass, and Noah still can’t get Robin out of his mind and out of his heart. After all, the one he loved the most would forever be the one who got away. That’s when he finds out about her hidden secret, the underlying condition responsible for her leaving. Noah has no choice but to move on with his life without her, meeting Sarah at the premiere of SAND DOLLAR, the movie he wrote about his time with Robin.

Years later, it’s Noah and Sarah’s wedding day, and Robin discovers a clue that Noah had surreptitiously inserted into the movie, inspiring her to race to the wedding to try to stop it. With the wedding in shambles, the scene jumps back to present day, with both Robin and Sarah placed in Noah’s hospital room. But which one did he choose?

As Noah wraps up telling his story, he discovers a far greater truth about the past, present, and future. Things are definitely not as they appear as the pieces of a shattered love are put back together in the remarkable final chapter of Noah’s life.

Sebastian Cole never intended on being a writer. He graduated from Brown University in the 80s, then worked briefly in New York before returning to Rhode Island to work in his family’s business. Nineteen years later, he took a leap of faith and left the company to pursue his dreams, which has led him to where he is now: a novelist of romantic fiction. Cole writes from the heart, believing in true love, love at first sight, and finding that one person in life you’re meant to be with.

Sebastian Cole’s debut novel, Sand Dollar: A Story of Undying Love, was emotionally inspired by his own personal life experiences. Sand Dollar has won numerous awards, including being the winner of the Beverly Hills Book Award in the Romance category, the bronze winner of ForeWord Reviews Book Of The Year Award in the Romance category, a finalist in the International Book Awards in the Best New Fiction category and the Romance category, and a finalist in ForeWord Firsts debut literary competition for first-time authors. With a rating of 4.5 stars on Amazon, the book has received rave reviews. Many have compared Cole to his favorite author, Nicholas Sparks, whom Cole cites as his favorite author and inspiration for becoming an author. Whether or not he ever achieves that kind of success, touching the lives of others through his writing has been the single most gratifying thing he has ever done.

  9. My Grandfather’s Uncle: a Memoir

    cover30About My Grandfather’s Uncle: a Memoir:

The subject of this memoir, Big Philip, as he was affectionately known, sprinkled ordinary conversation with bits of poetry, quotes from Shakespeare and old farmyard saws. We start with glimpses of McQuillan’s pre-Great Depression origins and then fast-forward to his colorful home life, favorite hobbies and mini-obsessions. The scenery along the way is littered with Philip’s choice phrases and idiomatic expressions. It is a ramble through an as–big–as–life scrapbook where Big Philip’s little recipes, his night job as a radio announcer, his board game “crimes” and his love for horse racing, golf, and gardening paint a richly detailed portrait of the man we can’t help but grow to love.

At books end, McQuillan encourages us to do as he has done – memorialize our parents, grandparents, lost friends – and with this book as a model, this idea should be a warmly welcomed one.
