  2. The Advocate by Teresa Burrell - 2013-04-16 02:54:59-04
Teresa Burrell has dedicated her life to helping children and their families in both the courtroom and the classroom. As an attorney in San Diego, Burrell maintained a private law practice for twelve years, which specialized in domestic, criminal, and civil cases. Her work in juvenile court focused on representing abused minors and juvenile delinquents. Burrell has received several awards and special recognition from the San Diego Volunteer Lawyers Program for her countless hours of pro bono work with children and their families. Burrell has also enjoyed a satisfying career as a teacher. She has taught children of all ages with diverse backgrounds and special needs. After creating an after-school program that kept kids off the street, she received a community service award. Now in semi-retirement in California, Burrell continues to educate groups about social issues impacting children and write novels, many of which are inspired by actual legal cases. She was recently asked to serve on the board of a non-profit organization to help prevent sexual abuse of children. Teresa is an award winning author who has four legal suspense mysteries in her Advocate Series, The Advocate, The Advocate’s Betrayal, The Advocate’s Conviction, and The Advocate’s Dilemma. The fifth book in the series will be released soon.
  3. Cold Open, A Sam North Mystery - 2013-04-16 03:27:47-04
I am a former print and TV reporter turned mystery writer. While reporting, I covered business news and worked for outlets as varied as the New York Post and CNN. My writing has appeared in dozens of publications, including the New York Times and Men's Journal. Cold Open, A Sam North Mystery is my first novel, and the first in what I envision to be a mystery series featuring cable news reporter Sam North. With a wisecracking reporter as the main character, Cold Open captures the feel of a newsroom and introduces readers to a cast of colorful characters. It draws on my years of experience as a reporter for CNN. It is available here on Amazon as an ebook. So why a cable news reporter as the main character? Well, I wanted someone who asked questions for a living, and I figured I had a good sense of the job. And after twenty-some years of reporting, I had seen enough scandals and interviewed enough scoundrels to know I had the seeds for plenty of stories. While I was a reporter at CNN, I covered CEOs and Wall Street, titans of industry and entrepreneurs. Before getting into TV, I was a print reporter. That included a stop at the New York Post. Spend any time at a tabloid, and you're forever seeing the world in terms of catchy headlines. Newsman Pens Mystery; Joins Self-Pub Club would be the one for this venture. Reporting for the Post taught me about writing a lot, and writing on deadline. Reporting for CNN refined the writing even more. You learn all about economy of words when a producer tells you have exactly a minute and a half to explain a 500-point drop in the Dow, or the bursting of the housing bubble. In addition to the Post and CNN, my work has also appeared in dozens of publications, including the New York Times, Men's Journal and The Hollywood Reporter. I enjoy hearing from readers and encourage you to visit my blog, GregClarkin.com, for the very latest news on Sam as well as other original stories, and ways to contact me.
  4. Lessons from Generation X to Generation Next - 2013-04-17 02:50:16-04
McKenzie McPherson was born in Jamaica, West Indies, she moved to the United States in 1994 along with her siblings. She graduated from Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) with a BS in Advertising & Marketing Communications. She also attended Connecticut School of Broadcasting and went on to an internship at American Broadcasting Company (ABC). Currently, she resides in Long Island, New York and is working on her follow up book in addition to other projects. Some of her interests include movies and music from the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s such as Goodbye Mr. Chips, Double Indemnity, Carmen Jones, and My Fair Lady. Even though, she spent most of her childhood in Jamaica where she was consistently exposed to the melodious voices of such phenomenal reggae artists as John Holt, Jimmy Cliff, Bob Marley, Third World, Tenor Saw, and Buju Banton, she does make time to incorporate the wonderful sounds of Aretha Franklin, Barbra Streisand, Sam Cooke, and Bing Crosby. The women who have most influenced her life besides her mother are Margaret Thatcher for her intellectual prowess, Princess Diana for her vulnerability and humility, and Oprah Winfrey for her generosity and resolve to always exposing her audience to information that will enhance and help them to live their best life now. When not working as an executive assistant, she spends her time exploring and searching for the meaning of her life. Her mantra is L.IV.E, which stands for love, inspire, value, and entertain.
