  1. Sex and Death in the American Novel by Sarah Martinez - 2013-03-19 02:32:25-04
'Sex and Death in the American Novel' will be free on Amazon beginning March 19, 2013 through March 21, 2013 The concept of a book that is comprised of nothing but one long involved sex scene appeals to me on several levels. The idea of adding even one sexy line just to sell a book makes me ill. Fiction that leaves out such an enormous part of humanity should not purport to be honest about the human condition. Sex comes in all forms: brutal, loving, angst-ridden, transformative, healing, routine, lusty and everything in between. When I wrote 'Sex and Death in the American Novel,' something I was playing with was addressing the many ways as it can be presented. I also played with the notion that sex is a metaphor for the exchange that takes place between reader and writer. My favorite authors are Marco Vassi, Junot Diaz, Stephen King, Joyce Carol Oates and Priscilla Long. My favorite dance is the Argentine Tango, and my favorite musicians/bands are Marilyn Manson, Metallica, FLAW and Enigma. I live in Seattle with my husband and two children. I am a member of the Northwest Independent Editor's Guild, and the Pacific Northwest Writers Association. 2. “Iraq War 2003: What Really Happened Behind The Scenes by Charles Edmund Coyote - 2013-03-19 03:55:25-04
I am an author, educated in anthropology and interested in such topics as human potential/spirituality, life extension, and the dynamics of culture. I became concerned, during the Bush/Obama years, with where this country was being taken by its leaders – with their Middle Eastern misadventures, disregard of the constitution, and conflation of government and Wall Street. I love this country, our constitution, and the rule of law under which we were founded. But I understand that no nation can remain great without a great middle class and I fear these things are being rapidly eroded away with good jobs being sent overseas, misguided militarism, and a governing class more focused on self-advancement than their responsibilities to the citizens. That we can be a great and good people was demonstrated by our response as a nation in the first days and months following September 11, but we are allowing ourselves to be mislead by a culture of greed and conformity and a poverty of understanding that wastes away our common ability to observe and make effective decisions.
