  1. Hidden Depths - 2013-03-09 02:57:37-05
I am a wife of fifteen years to a Navy Chief. I am the mother of two wonderful children, a boy and a girl. Generally that is about as far as I get before everyone assumes they have me summed up. However, I am so much more. While those two things have and continue to be the most important things in my life, they are not the sum total of who I am. I am stubborn, mildly OCD, sarcastic, stubborn, feisty, independent, a fighter, oh and did I mention stubborn? Throughout my life I have been many things. A daughter, a girlfriend, a student, a business woman, a wife, a mother, all the things that come with that title (taxi driver, housekeeper, diaper changer, caregiver, toddler chef making everything from chicken fingers to mac and cheese, school aide, tutor, football AD, and currently working my way back to swimming with my daughter). Now, as I sneak up on forty, I am finally discovering who I want to be for the rest of my life. According to friends, I am a goth hippie. While I am truly neither of those, I probably have pieces of each. What I am is exactly like many of you... A woman on a journey to self discovery, self satisfaction, and joy. Writing brings me much of that and I look forward to sharing my books with you. Take a few hours for a peek inside my mind... 2. Boys For Sale: A Novel about Human Trafficking - 2013-03-10 01:22:45-05
Between studying for my Master's degree in Education and teaching really smart students in Seoul, South Korea, I've discovered that when I do have a little bit of time off, my happy place is a small, mostly deserted island in Thailand (Ko Jum), and I find that living in a bungalow for a few weeks right on the beach is the perfect place for me to focus without any distractions. Also, since the only thing there is a small restaurant, a beach, and a dirt road leading to a village which is five miles away, there's not much to do besides swim, read, and write. My first attempt at writing and finishing a book became T.A.G., The Assassination Game, a 600 page novel. It was based on something I wished was real, but I was tired of reading books with protagonists who were all good, and antagonists who were clearly bad. Personally, I liked the story, but I think my dad gave me the most honest feedback when he said, "I didn't really find any of the four main characters to be likable." Apparently I went too far to the extreme, but hopefully after a bit of editing, it'll appear on Amazon someday. After that I wrote a book based on the idea 'what if imaginary friends weren't so imaginary?' However, that was all hand-written in two notepads, and it's still unfinished. Usually, when my vacation ends, I stop writing since there are too many other distractions in life - unfortunately. Hopefully, that one, too, will be finished someday. Boys For Sale, and it's follow-up novel which is brilliantly named Boys For Sale 2, were inspired by a speech/presentation given by David Batstone in Seoul in January of 2011. I was shocked by how many children are bought and sold as sex slaves and the things that happen to them...and I was moved by how much some people give in order to save these children. One of his anecdotes led me to the character of Tavi, and as I imagined what he had to go through to get to where I met him in my mind, the story just seemed to write itself...

  4. Always Devoted - 2013-03-10 03:29:35-04
Award-winning author Karen Rose Smith was born in Pennsylvania. Although she was an only child, she remembers the bonds of an extended family. She and her parents lived with her grandfather and aunt until she was five when her parents built a house next door. Since her father came from a family of ten and her mother, a family of seven, there were always aunts, uncles and cousins visiting on weekends. Family is a strong theme in her books and she suspects her childhood memories are the reason. As a teenager, music became as important to Karen as reading. The Beatles were her favorite group. But she and her cousin took their first sojourn into writing by collaborating on a script for the MONKEES television program. They sent that script to every concert venue where the group appeared that summer! In college, Karen began writing poetry and also met her husband to be. They both began married life as teachers, but when their son was born, Karen decided to try her hand at a home-decorating business. She returned to teaching for a while but changes in her life led her to writing romance fiction. Now she writes romances and mysteries full time. She has sold 82 novels since 1991. A two-time winner of New Jersey's Golden Leaf Award in Short Contemporary Romance, Colorado Romance Writers Award Of Excellence for short contemporary, as well as the Phoenix Desert Rose Chapter's Golden Quill for Traditional Romance, she has also been honored with Cataromance.com's award for Best Special Edition. Her romances have made both the USA TODAY list, Borders Group Bestseller list for Series Romance as well as the Amazon Contemporary Romance Bestseller list. Presently, she is hard at work on a three-book series for Harlequin Special Edition as well as a three-book mystery series for Kensington. Married to her college sweetheart since 1971, believing in the power of love and commitment, she envisions herself writing relationship novels, both romance and mystery, for a long time to come! Readers can email Karen through her websites at http://www.karenrosesmith.com or http://www.karenrosesmithmysteries.com. She posts excerpts there and info about upcoming titles. They can also follow her on Twitter @karenrosesmith and on Facebook.
  5. That Which Follows; 3 - 2013-03-10 05:46:03-04
These stories are an introduction into that which follows, and might show a different perspective on how one views the unknown. I can only hope that these stories will be as fun to read as they have been to write.
