- Ten Thousand Gods by Sally C. Fink - 2013-03-05 01:57:49-05
Sally C. Fink began drawing and making up stories to go with those drawings when she could first pick up a pencil. Many sketches, many stories and many years later, she wrote her first novel in 1988. Best known as a costumer, she began costuming in 1973 when she entered a “Futuristic Fashion Design” contest sponsored by the convention Equicon. Nearly 40 years later, she is a many-times-over Master costumer in the International Costumers Guild, a Laurel and a Pelican in the Society for Creative Anachronism and is still making costumes. Known for her large, elaborate headpieces and love of purple and glitz both fannishly and in the SCA, she has had over a dozen one-woman costume and art-to-wear shows at local venues in western Pennsylvania. From 2004 to 2011, one of her fantasy costumes, “The Iron Orchid,” was on exhibition in the Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame in Seattle, WA. Sally was born in Somerset, PA, in 1951. She went to college, hated it, and dropped out after one semester. She then went to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, loved it, and graduated at the top of her class in 1972. She has worked as a department store fashion illustrator, manager of a fabric store, and copywriter/layout artist for a newspaper where she was eventually promoted to art director. These days she is either at the sewing machine or the computer. After many years making historical clothing, she has recently returned to science fiction/fantasy conventions and competition costuming. Costumes and clothing also figure prominently in her novels. And of course, her two purring, four-footed housemates contribute their own special input to all her creative endeavors.
- A Thistle in the Mist - 2013-03-05 02:56:19-05
My name is Megan Denby and I live northeast of Toronto in the cozy, lakeside community of Port Perry, Ontario. I grew up on a farm in the middle of a family of six, with two older sisters and a younger brother. My world is my family, my friends and my writing. A baseball player for twenty years, I retired after breaking both my ankles and have since taken to the lake to become an avid dragonboater. I decided to challenge myself this year (a.k.a. midlife crisis) and am currently training for The Warrior Dash - an extreme 5K obstacle course. A true Canadian, I love watching hockey but I'm a pretty lousy player. When I'm not hanging out with my five sons and one daughter, I can be found at the arena watching my wife play hockey. A Thistle in the Mist was an idea born over ten years ago and was inspired by the turbulent life of my feisty Scottish great-grandmother. After shelving my novel for many years, I dusted it off, edited like crazy and spent six months conversing with literary agents. Impatient to share my story, I opted to self-publish and released it on Amazon on January 18th 2013. Between family, blogging, Facebook, website building, tweeting and researching I am hard at work on the second book, Lost to the Mist, and hope to have it released during the summer of 2013.

Jade M. Phillips, aside from being an author, can play guitar, do a frighteningly accurate portrayal of a spider monkey, and has the unique and magical ability to vanquish entire armies of snarling trolls with a flick of her pen. When she is not writing about mystical creatures and lovable characters, she’s having nightly dance parties with her kids, blogging about whatever tickles her fancy at the moment, and testing new recipes on the stove (which coincidentally, usually ends up testing her smoke detectors as well.) Jade M. Phillips resides in Arizona with her husband, two children, and her crazy cat, William Wallace Braveheart Fuzzy McFarland the Third.
