- Francey - 2012-12-31 11:36:42-05
It was a few years ago, after reading a book by Mark Twain about Joan of Arc, that I started writing in earnest. Joan of Arc, up until that point, had been almost unknown to me. There were the few bits and pieces I'd gleaned about her in school, and several movies which left me cold and wondering, 'What's the big deal?' But Mark Twain's book was a revelation and I decided I had to do something to get the word out. So just like that, and with no prior experience in the field, I wrote a screenplay in which I attempted to depict Joan as the magnificent being that she truly was. And if you're curious as to when the movie is coming out, stay tuned. Anyway--and in an effort to move things along--a publisher friend of mine, after reading and adoring my Joan of Arc screenplay, suggested that I turn my literary efforts to the writing of a novel. Were I to do that, she said, she'd see to it that it was published. I mulled this over for a while, decided I'd like to give it a try, and Francey was born. Where the idea for that amazing young lady came from is a story in itself and shall be saved for another time. However, since it was The Horrifying Tale of Mrs. Trollope that caused Ashlyn to request this bit of prose from me, we'll turn our attention first to that novel. With one novel under my belt, and while looking for an idea for another, I just happened to re-read Dracula. And it occurred to me that--at least as far as I knew--no female counterpart to the greatest vampire of them all had made her way onto the literary scene. Add to that my son's challenge that I write a tale of horror, and there was now no turning back. For my money, Mrs. Trollope is the quintessential vampire. The personification of evil (the Devil, were he to encounter her, would step aside to let her pass), she is also not without her human frailties. Desperately lonely, an impossibly unrequited love: her human side will tug at your heartstrings. And though you may find her sense of humor a bit dry--as does Jonathan, Clara's father, and a vampire-hunter from the old country--still it can't be denied that she has one. We join Jack and Clara Gallagher on the Night of Dread--when a full moon and Friday the thirteenth join forces--and their car has broken down. They seek help at a nearby house, and due to some rather bizarre circumstances, find themselves Mrs. Trollope's guests for the night. The next day they awaken to find themselves trapped in a house of untold horrors. They escape, of course--but not before Clara's been infected. An infection that--if permitted to run its course--will make of Clara a walking dead. The cure?--A wooden stake driven through Mrs. Trollope's heart. A daunting task made no easier by the fact that Mrs. Trollope--a vampire as cunning as they come--will not rest until her vengeance toward Clara's father has been satisfied. Not only does she want Clara for herself, but she wants Clara's sister as well. The game of cat and mouse that follows--from the wilds of the New England countryside, to the jungles of New York City--will have you wondering more often than not: who is the cat and who is the mouse? One other thing before we leave the world of Mrs. Trollope behind: I wrote it with people like me in mind--modern-day treatment of horror holds little attraction for me. In other words, you'll find no nightmare-inducing mind-games, no blood, no gore, no grizzly tearing apart of human flesh. In fact, you'll find not so much as a swear word. Simply a story in which you wouldn't want to find yourself a participant. Francey, on the other hand, is a horse of a radically different color. And no matter how many novels hereafter flow from my pen, she'll always remain my favorite child. Francey's nightmares are a very real cause for concern. So graphic and so terrifying have they become that the next one could very well end her life. A frantic search for the key to their unraveling leads her through a maze of past lives straight into the teeth of a web of intrigue so insidious that it has remained undetected for three and a half centuries; whereupon the path stops dead in its tracks at the gravesites of Lady Susan Sebastian, and her forbidden lover, Edward Delaney. What possible connection could Francey have with the seventeenth century star-crossed lovers? And if there is one, how is she to draw the answer from them? This chasm of impossible proportions must be crossed, for only with the resurrection of the dead, and their secrets drawn from deep within their souls, can the little girl be saved. So--you might ask--when, where, and why did I first pick up my pen? Well... I was sitting in my eighth-grade history class, doing my best to ignore the teacher's mind-numbing drone, when, out of the blue, an idea for a story hit me. It was a glorious moment promising to serve me in two badly needed ways: devoting my energies to it during class would help me to ignore the teacher; and, even better, it would enable me to forget that I was trapped in that most unspeakable of places--school. Hence I got right to work. That night, at dinner--a time when the whole family (parents, two sisters, a brother) sat down together and discussed the events of the day--if you can believe a time like that ever existed--I pulled out my creation and read it aloud. I don't remember the details of the story, but I do, astonishingly enough, remember the gist. It was a short story centering around my older sister, Marilyn (who, today, plays violin with the New York Philharmonic), and the dilemmas--both uproarious and embarrassing--in which she found herself because of having to juggle her several boyfriends. I swear to God, my audience was in stitches: Marilyn was literally rolling on the floor. It was, and will remain, the single greatest moment of my life. I became unstoppable, and over the next several years, wrote hundreds of short stories. I envy me my young self because back then the words poured effortlessly out of me; unlike today, when a single sentence can have me stymied for a week. It was toward the end of my senior year in high school, while getting ready to make the transition to college, when I began my first novel. It remains unfinished. I'll spare you the sordid details of why, upon entering those hallowed halls of higher learning, creative writing became as lost to me as my childhood. (The tears stand in my eyes as I write this.) Joan of Arc, bless her heart, started the ball rolling again; my publisher friend gave it a much needed push; but what really brought Francey about was a memory, so insistent, that I was given no choice but to set it down on paper. And, in so doing, I re-discovered the joys of writing. To say I'm glad I did would be a fair-sized understatement. And, I'm told by a decent number of people that they are glad of it as well. I hope you will be too. Just as an aside and in case you're interested, I'm working now on a novel called The Devil and Charlie Draper. I had meant to follow Mrs. T. with a sequel, and it will still happen; but The Devil's nagging became impossible to ignore. To give you some idea: Charlie Draper, a man getting on in years, has never gotten over the tragic loss of his childhood sweetheart. And though he has everything a man could wish for, still this cloud hangs forever over him. Enter the Devil with an enticing proposition. A set of circumstances will be created wherein Charlie, having been given back his youth, will also be given the opportunity to bring that tragic loss back to life. Should he succeed, and should he then be able to win back her love, Charlie will have fulfilled his end of the bargain thereby retaining possession of his soul and everything else he's gained along the way. However, the odds are not exactly stacked in his favor and should he fail . . . Well, you get the idea. The bargain is struck and the clock starts to tick. Charlie has thirty days. Though there will be moments of humor and levity, this will be no light and frolicsome tale. It is a serious and ambitious work and I'm gritting my teeth in preparation for countless long and harrowing nights. Gene Fowler, the well-known author and journalist, once said, "Writing is easy. All you do is stare at a blank sheet of paper until drops of blood form on your forehead." That, my friends, is something to which The Devil may certainly attest.

Rob grew up in Sydney Australia and has been writing children’s storybooks ever since he can remember. Writer illustrator Rob Towner With a background in communications, children’s book writer Rob Towner revels in creating hilarious stories that both kids and parents will have fun reading. These stories don’t take themselves too seriously and usually have a warm message at the heart. Rob also does all the illustrations for these stories and believes that imagery is an important aspect of communicating with young kids. I love writing stories that makes kids smiles. My stories are fairly different from the typical kids books you will find at your local book store. They’re a little weird and definitely unique. Creating easy-to-read fiction that both parents and kids will have fun reading is my ultimate goal. ‘Romy’s Garden Adventures’ is an ongoing series of books Rob is currently working on and follows a young girl who who gets up to all sorts of trouble and mischief in her own backyard. More information on this series and where to buy can be found in the Rob Towner library. His next project, titled ‘Animal Friends: Floating Orange Cubes’, follows two cicada friends living in the 1950s who embark on an epic adventure and change the course of history. Animal friends will be released in 2013. I knew from a very young age that I wanted to be a children’s book writer. I was, and still very much am, a huge admirer of Roald Dahl and look up to him as a great role model. He taught me that having a creative imagination was one of the most important factors to enjoying a rich full life. Today, I strive to be a conduit for that very message to the kids of the future. Rob currently resides in Newcastle and is available for children’s story workshop sessions, public readings (at libraries and café’s) and visiting schools to educate kids on his own personal writing experiences. In his spare time, he enjoys rock climbing and drinking coffee.

Hi, I've been writing in earnest since 1998, when I started A Gift of Poetry (dot com) which is still alive and well today (please Google A Gift of Poetry and you'll find it). I have since broadened my horizons and now write books on a wide variety of subjects. Two of my big passions are cooking and vegetable gardening so there are quite a few that focus on growing or picking your own and cooking from scratch. The vast majority of my recipes have all been tried and tested and honed over a number of years. Most agree the results are delicious (well, that's what they tell me :) so please do try a couple of recipes and let me know how you get on. I've also written a few self help books and (IMHO) The 77 Secrets is definitely worth a read. I also publish and market for other aspiring authors and help them become known in the marketplace. So, all in all, pretty busy but enjoying life. I hope you are too (if not, please read The 77 Secrets :). All the very best, Allen xx

A little about me? I'm an author of dark fiction. Much of my inspiration stems from having spent the first thirteen years of my life in a house that was haunted. Some of the things I experienced was so fantastic they wouldn't be out of place in one of my stories. Those stories, incidentally, is where it's at, and that's what's really important. I could go on to tell you I'm happily married and hail from the UK (oh look, I just did), or that I also compose electronic music whenever I get the time. But that's not the most interesting thing about me from a reader's point of view. The most interesting is what I write, and the journey I can take you on if you'll allow me.

- Catahoula - 2012-12-31 15:09:17-05
Hello, my name is Wes McCloud, author and illustrator. Hmmm, where do I start, well I was born Oct. 23, 1980, in Newark, Ohio, the same town which I still reside this very day. I have always had an over-active imagination ever since I was little, which no doubt led me down the path to be a fiction writer. My love for writing spawned at an early age. I remember absolutely loving when teachers would give us fiction writing assignments, especially when you were able to illustrate them. I read lots of fiction novels through my elementary and middle-school years, but it was not until my freshman year of high school that I decided to start writing my very first novel, "Kentucky Moon". The very act of writing a novel was intoxicating to me. There is nothing quite like it. The characters, the settings, the heroes and the villains...the culmination of all the events you envisioned coming to life within your mind, creating an alternate reality that you feel with all five senses. And by the time the words "The End" are written upon the last page, you swear that you had lived through every breath of every character within. It is pure magic, and nothing can duplicate its enigmatic polarity upon the heart, mind, and soul. And I must say, from the first day I laid pencil to paper on that very first book, I have been in love with novel writing ever since.

- Therapy for Ghosts by Eric Praschan - 2012-12-31 21:29:31-05
Eric Praschan has been writing for 20 years, focusing on suspense fiction. He holds a B.A. in English and a M.A. in Theological Studies. His favorite writers range from Stephen King to C.S. Lewis. He has many years of experience in drama, music, teaching, and higher education. His first novel, Therapy for Ghosts, was inspired by health episodes he experienced which left him temporarily paralyzed and mute. During the course of his recovery, he penned the novel with the hope that it will inspire readers to overcome adversity with perseverance and courage. Sarah Kernochan, the 2-time Academy Award winning screenwriter of “What Lies Beneath” and author of Jane Was Here, says: "Eric Praschan's book comes with an amusing premise, charting the meltdown of Cindy James, a cognitive behavioral therapist, who is in critical need of...cognitive behavioral therapy. The story quickly turns serious, as Praschan explores her tortured psyche, leading us to the unimaginable trauma that keeps her imprisoned, like a ghost, in a house already haunted by her childhood tormentors. Judging from the crackling dialogue between Cindy and Tony, the therapist who loves and helps her, Praschan is well versed in the challenges of the doctor-patient duet. This is a fine and well-written psychological thriller. And I am partial to any male author who seeks - and succeeds - to create a full-dimensioned woman narrator." Eric lives in Columbia, Missouri, with his wife, Stephanie. He currently works in the Graduate School at the University of Missouri. He is working on the sequel to Therapy for Ghosts, with a tentative release date set for Fall 2013.

- The Adventures of Princess Marina the Mermaid by Caprice Hokstad - 2012-12-31 22:06:28-05
Caprice spends most of her time dreaming up other worlds to live vicariously in. Her first half-million words were spent on the fantasy setting of Byntar (where her Ascendancy Trilogy novels are set). She went to Baylor University in Texas and lived in a log cabin in the mountains for ten years directly from college. She now lives--with her husband, two teens, a 9-year-old, a dog, a cat, and a tankful of guppies--in a mobile home in southern California. She regularly stares at her simulated aquarium screensaver, singing "I Wish I Were a Fish" from "The Incredible Mr. Limpet". Her ultimate aspiration is to live in the first undersea colony, Atlantica, currently being built off the coast of Florida. She has been assured they will have electricity and internet and that there will be room for her laptop, so she can continue to write. At that point, she may change her screensaver, but no promises.
- Woodlife by Richard M Vickers - 2012-12-31 22:07:47-05
Richard M Vickers was born in Manchester, England. A keen interest in all things otherworldly goes back to his early childhood and remains with him to this day. He still likes a good mystery and constantly finds himself in the centre of at least one on an almost daily basis. Sadly, they’re usually of the “Why aren’t the car keys where I put them only five minutes ago?” or “How come there’s a large blue stain on the carpet when everyone in the house swears blind they weren’t responsible?” variety. Richard has worked in the fields of banking, finance, education and interior design. Besides Woodlife, his debut novel, he has written numerous magazine articles and short stories on supernatural and historical themes. He is also the author of The Tiger’s Tale, a mystery book for young readers. He is currently working on Mystery Island, a collection of short works tying together Britain’s supernatural and historical heritage. On those occasions when he doesn’t have a pen in hand he often has a whistle instead, maintaining his life-long love of football as a referee.

- Getting 10%: Great Returns of 1%, 5%, 10% and More on Your Money by Peter Sorrells - 2012-12-31 22:12:49-05
Peter Sorrells holds eight patents and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) degree from the University of Arizona. He has held successful engineering, marketing, and management positions in a half dozen high-technology companies. His work has taken him to befriend and negotiate with the largest high-technology companies in the world, as far East as Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, and China. And as far West as Germany, the UK, France, Italy, Canada, and every corner of the USA. An entrepreneur and teacher at heart, he speaks to large and small audiences on technical, business, financial, and biblical subjects. His first Amazon bestseller, 100 Ways to Save and Grow Your Money: Financial Fitness for Regular People, was originally written in 1990 - but not published at that time. It was later updated based on new technology and new life experiences, and first published in late 2009. The work grew from Peter's personal education in two disastrous financial events, conquering and recovering from those challenges, and distilling that wisdom in an easy-to-read, practical guide to help others. Peter's love of teaching and helping others is evident in his writing style. Peter contributed a chapter to Brian Tracy's new book, The Secret to Winning Big, which was released and hit the Amazon bestseller charts in November 2012. He also released his own second Kindle book on finding high investment interest rates. Getting 10%: Great Rates of 1%, 5%, 10% and More on Your Money was released in early December 2012. Most comfortable in blue jeans and a T-shirt, Peter most loves spending time with his (very patient and understanding) wife and three boys. Self-described as a man with too many hobbies, he can be found coaching others in the financial ministry of his church, facilitating Financial Peace University groups, riding motorcycles, shooting a variety of firearms at the local range, and performing music on stages of some of the largest and smallest churches in Arizona (he plays the electric, acoustic, and bass guitars, writes music charts, and helps to MD the band). Peter considers himself one of the luckiest and most blessed humans on earth, and meets each day with a list that's too big to finish.

- Why Did Everything Happen? - 2013-01-01 00:07:01-05
I spent the last twenty-five years in road construction. Major back surgery in 2010 put a damper on that career. In 2009 I reunited with my high school sweetheart who tragically passed July of the same year. Her cancer returned with a vengeance. I was thoroughly crushed with her loss. It took a year before I sat down and wrote about our shared love. Since then I have written and self-published six books. Two baseball coaching manuals, two auto-biographies, a short humorous story about being a single parent, an erotic short story collection and the current novel Occupation. I currently have four books in the works. I live in the DFW area and spend my free time with my family and grandchildren.

- The Dreamcatcher Adventures: Greedy Jack Wallace - 2013-01-01 00:27:32-05
I was born in Jefferson City, Missouri to a family of all twins (a brother and two younger sisters). I've been told that I liked to write at a young age, but I don't remember that at all. I first remember really getting into writing during a creative writing class at Helias High School. After high school, I studied at Lindenwood University. I thought business was a more practical field than writing, but that only lasted for one boring class. Instead, I earned my degree in English and communications. I'm a big fan of wandering around--usually a walk around the neighborhood will keep me happy--but after college I took it to a new level. Despite aiming for film school in Los Angeles, I ended up working at a casino on the Pojoaque Pueblo in New Mexico. It was a life changing experience in many ways, but that episode first got me interested in Western themes in my work. After a little more wandering, and graduate school at Missouri State University, I moved back to Jefferson City, where I currently live with my wife and daughter. I teach online writing courses for Columbia College, and I also work at Communiqué, Inc., a communications firm my dad founded just months before I was born. I don't have much free time, but when I do I still like to write and wander, and I can't wait to see what happens next.
- Quick & Easy Slow Cooker Recipes (for chefs on the edge) - 2013-01-01 00:28:08-05
Carolyn is a wife, mother and author who believes loving your family well doesn't necessarily mean slaving in the kitchen for hours every day. If you did that, how would you find the time to clean loads and loads of dirty laundry, locate missing book bags, wipe up spilled apple juice and retrieve odd items out of noses? Her "Quick & Easy Recipes (for chefs on the edge)" series of cookbooks is meant to help other moms and wives out there on the edge of a nervous breakdown. These cookbooks are filled with simple and delicious recipes and hopefully a few laughs as well. Because if you can't laugh at the ridiculousness of daily life, how on Earth do you cope with it?
- On Unfaithful Wings by Bruce Blake - 2013-01-01 00:34:44-05
Bruce Blake lives on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. When pressing issues like shovelling snow and building igloos don't take up his spare time, Bruce can be found taking the dog sled to the nearest coffee shop to work on his short stories and novels. Actually, Victoria, B.C. is only a couple hours north of Seattle, Wash., where more rain is seen than snow. Since snow isn't really a pressing issue, Bruce spends more time trying to remember to leave the "u" out of words like "colour" and "neighbour" then he does shovelling. The father of two, Bruce is also the trophy husband of burlesque diva Miss Rosie Bitts. Bruce has been writing since grade school but it wasn't until six years ago he set his sights on becoming a full-time writer. Since then, his first short story, "Another Man's Shoes" was published in the Winter 2008 edition of Cemetery Moon, another short, "Yardwork", was made into a podcast in Oct., 2011 by Pseudopod and his first Icarus Fell novel, "On Unfaithful Wings", was published to Kindle in Dec., 2011. The second Icarus Fell novel, “All Who Wander Are Lost”, was released in July, 2012, and “Blood of the King”, the first book in the two-part “Khirro's Journey” epic fantasy, was released Sept. 30, 2012. He has plans for at least three more Icarus novels, several stand alones, and a possible YA fantasy co-written with his eleven-year-old daughter.

- An Unquiet American by AFN Clarke - 2013-01-01 01:30:40-05
AFN Clarke is the best-selling author of CONTACT, of 5 fiction books (more on the way) and is an award winning screenwriter. His novels span various genres - humorous satire, thrillers, suspense, drama - and contain compelling stories and intriguing characters drawn from his varied life experiences, giving them a greater immediacy, depth and realism. He's been a racing car driver, a Captain in Britain's elite Parachute Regiment, pilot, sailor, computer programmer and is a proud father of four daughters. He still loves to sail, listen to opera, rock music, cook gourmet meals, drink wine, have heated discussions and travel off the beaten path. He's lived in Hong Kong, India, Libya, Iran, the UK, USA and traveled throughout Europe and Australia. He's also had a near death experience, lost half his insides and made it back from the emotional and physical traumas of war. As he says: "That tends to change how you look at life and maybe in a strange way it's made me a better writer. For me - and I suspect for most of my readers - good books are a great way to shut out every day life for a few hours, suspend normal ways of thinking, and allow yourself to be transported to another world. I'm a sucker for a good story, enjoy laughing out loud, love being on the edge of my seat in anticipation of what's to come and appreciate the thrill of unexpected endings. I hope that's what my readers get - the thrill, suspense, drama, intrigue, humor, mystery, danger, love and laughter of life seen through different eyes. Despite life throwing me some tough experiences, I am basically still an optimist at heart and believe in the overwhelming power of love and of the human spirit, a sentiment I trust endures in my writing." Published works include CONTACT, COLLISIONS, AN UNQUIET AMERICAN, THE BOOK OF BAKER SERIES (DREAMS FOR THE DEATH AGE; ARMAGEDDON; GENESIS REVISITED release late 2012) and DRY TORTUGAS - with the Thomas Gunn suspense series coming soon. - No Good Deed: Book One in the Mark Taylor Series - 2013-01-01 01:49:14-05
I know a lot of these are written in third person, but that just feels too unnatural for me so I’m going to be a rebel and write this in first person. I’m M.P. McDonald, and I live in a small town in Wisconsin with my family, just a stone’s throw from a beautiful lake, and literally spitting distance to a river on the other side. We love the peace and quiet and being able to go down to the beach on a hot summer day for a quick swim. Chicago and Milwaukee are just an hour’s drive away in either direction, so we are never far from the excitement of a big city. When I’m not writing, I work as a respiratory therapist at a small hospital that is part of a large hospital system in eastern Wisconsin.

- MEDITATION ON SPACE-TIME - 2013-01-01 17:06:52-05
While working overseas as Project Director for a consumer electronics company, Leonard came upon a parchment, which he had drafted in college after booing a novel’s ending. The chicken-scratches had begun to fade, but he succeeded in deciphering the text. The writing was amateurish, but the plot had potential. So, to relieve work stress, he began rewriting the story, along the way learning the art of the trade. Several years later, he resigned from the company to write short stories and literary novels. Leonard is the author of the novel Meditation On Space-Time and the nonfiction The Spiritual Life. His articles appear on Blogging Authors. In 2011, he participated in the Jennie McKean Moore Fiction Workshop at George Washington University to learn from author Tim Johnston, Art of the Story.

- Orange Juice in Bishop’s Garden: Season 2 [Kindle Edition] - 2013-01-01 17:29:57-05
Otessa Ghadar completed her Graduate Film studies, at Columbia University’s Film school in NYC. “Orange Juice in Bishops Garden” actually started as her MFA Thesis, which she worked on with fellow class-mate & friend Rebecca. The story itself is an example of “writing what you know”. It is inspired by her memories of being a teenager in DC in the 90′s. The story is part recollection, part urban legend, and part pure fiction. Together, as a whole, the stories and the characters ring true. And the diverse cast of characters and stories offers a relatable experience for every viewer. Otessa’s teen years were spent serenaded by Morrissey, with much dancing/singing into her hairbrush to “How Soon Is Now?” Or she was creating new and marvelous mischief with her best friend. She remembers mix-tapes and Sassy magazines, missing the last Metro, and getting stuck miles from payphones. Her youth was full of teen magic and she remembers it as though in Super 8: warm and soft and potentially set to Donovan music. The teen world has always fascinated Otessa–then & now.

- Mind Hurdles: Grade 2: 150 Interactive Questions and Answers to Get a Head Start. - 2013-01-01 17:37:53-05
With over forty years experience teaching children and with five grandchildren, I'm constantly amazed by what grabs and keeps their attention. I've noticed through the years that the activities that are most likely to accomplish this are the ones that require them to actively participate. For example, when they were young, they were much more interested in doing something they could pickup, move or point to as opposed to an activity where they had to simply sit still and watch. That's where the idea for Mind Hurdles came into being. The Mind Hurdles books are INTERACTIVE, and are thus more interesting and challenging. Be sure to join the fun at http://mindhurdles.com where you can get Free Downloads, new book announcements and more.

- Wolf River - 2013-01-01 17:40:29-05
Born in New Orleans, Rick Gutknecht’s early life in coastal Mississippi, where his family had purchased quite cheaply (these were depression days) a century-old farmhouse and a hundred acres of pines, hardwoods and swamps. No electricity or indoor plumbing, but what made the purchase a paradise for the youngster and his brothers was its landing of Wolf River and a lake stocked with fish begging to be caught. Another plus: their rustic home was only a few miles distant from the gorgeous Gulf of Mexico and its wealth of seafood—shrimp, crabs, a variety of fish. Sea life that Rick and brothers delighted in catching; their mother in preparing. A major challenge for Mom until replacement of the home’s ancient wood-burning stove.

A freelance writer and a graduate in an IT discipline, I have always had a fascination with new technologies and their impact on society which is often showcased in my writing. By day I am a cubicle dwelling creature, staring at spreadsheets and lines of code, trying my best not to be swallowed up in the numbers staring back at me. I love using my abilities to solve problems and create solutions but often find myself frustrated at the lack of opportunity to use my creativity. The only remedy I have found is to periodically break away from a long stretch of keyboard mashing and coffee drinking to jot down a few ideas floating around in my mind. As a result of this, I stepped into writing stories in the evening using the notes I wrote throughout the day. Of course, this is all in between changing diapers and running around the house with a balloon tied to my butt pocket for my daughter to chase. Yes, I'm a dad and an exceptional husband - don't verify this with my wife though. I enjoy reading stories with characters that I can relate to. I read mostly science fiction and fantasy. Authors that I enjoy have been Stephen King, Terry Goodkind, Terry Brooks, George R. R. Martin, and Dean Koontz.

Where was Thomas Temple born? When? That, no one knows for sure. Good ol' Uncle Temple tends to keep to himself. No one knows more about him than the fact that he is a mysterious fiction author whose writing drums a beat and whose screeching plots are tighter than a ball gag. Crime, thrillers, mystery, pulp... he refuses to fit into the box of any one genre. One sure thing is that Temple's ink flows black and smacks of macabre, sarcasm and bizarroidity. Thomas Temple does not turn his back to society, he scrutinizes it. He spies on its tiniest minutiae and keeps our souls under the most merciless magnifying glass. His stories deliver an inquiry into the raw and disturbing everyday life. The ordinary turns out extraordinary. The next door neighbor is caught red-handed, with his pants on fire and his most secret perversions in the public domain. His characters managed to be disturbing, disgusting, endearing and loveable at once or in turn, they become the mirror of our intimate thoughts. No doubt, Thomas Temple is a modern day tale teller, some have dubbed him: 'the soul-snatcher' Rumor has it that he is working as we speak on several short stories and a novel. - Who Murdered Garson Talmadge, a Matt Kile Mystery, by David Bishop - 2013-01-01 22:30:31-05
I was born in Washington, D.C. From there my life likely mirrored that of a lot of my readers. We moved around. I got some education. Played some sports, and got some more education. Prior to becoming a novelist, I worked as a financial analyst determining the value of companies. But let's talk about my current and final career, writing mystery novels. As a writer, I conjure up occurrences designed to quickly bring the story to a roiling boil. Along the way, I invent people. Victims and villains and heroes are needed, as well as a supporting cast. I make these people fun and interesting so you will welcome them and introduce them to your friends. Primary characters need habits and tics and talents, the qualities that bring them to life and make you love them or hate them. You'll want to see them humiliated or hunted down, be sucessful or seduced. My mysteries offer you the opportunity to be challenged to find the villain from among the suspects. Clues as large as a log or as tiny as a bump thereon are salted throughout the stories. There are distractions in the form of false clues, called red herrings, which point to someone other than the real villain. Take a journey with me. Laugh. Hold your breath. Cheer. Boo. The characters are rich and the plots are grabbers. I promise that you'll be glad you came along. Some people don't like golf or chocolate or even a hearty laugh. But I'll bet you like some of those things and I'll bet you'll like my mysteries. Yours very truly, David Bishop

In his series Lazy Traveler's Handbook, Andy Shuman takes the reader through an easy-to-understand method of accruing frequent flier miles and points in hotel loyalty programs. The method is completely free and the book never tries to sell the reader any other services. All it takes to fly for free and vacation in some of the most popular and luxurious places in the world is an understanding of how credit card sign-up bonuses work, how to get them, and how to manipulate miles and points between the various reward programs. The author has been traveling for free for almost a decade, and uses the method outlined in this book himself. Before he found this system, he still traveled the world on the cheap, though using less effective ways to save money. The author knows how to play the miles'n'points game, and he keeps nothing back from the reader.

Over the years Paul has worked for HMRC, as a hackney driver, as a doorman in Glasgow night clubs, a bar and night club manager, a crisp salesman in Spain, an advisor to young people looking for work and, after obtaining an MBA in 1997, as a Commercial Manager in the public sector "a contradiction in terms if there ever was one!" "I never really had a plan, I just stumbled along and what happened but with my kind of background you do tend to have met a few characters along the way and I called on those experiences for some of my characterizations." In 2007, whilst sitting in a bar waiting for a friend who was late in turning up, the initial idea for "Defending Joe" took seed.....and some 5 years later the book came out.....ending up being a best selling novel in 2012. "The story line changed a few times over the years but the simple initial notion of someone not turning up for a meeting, and the other person having to keep quiet about it for their own reasons, is still the thread that runs through the story even now." Paul is the proud father of two sons and one grandson, and lives just outside Glasgow where he is currently working on his second novel.

- A Note Below (A Lansin Island Short Story) by Andrew Butcher - 2013-01-02 02:04:58-05
Andrew Butcher was born in Northampton, England. As a kid, he didn't read much. He recalls being attracted to A Series of Unfortunate Events, but probably more for the cover illustration than anything else. He gave the books a shot, but didn't get past the third. His passion for reading arose when he was sixteen and he discovered Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles. He ploughed through the series. Later he moved on to other books, some standalone novels, but his preference is for series. Although he loves to read, he enjoys watching TV series just as much. Some of his favourites are Lost, Battlestar Galactica, Fringe, True Blood, Chuck, Dexter and The 4400. Anything with a compelling story and unpredictable twists! He writes because it's the only hobby he truly enjoys. It's like a project he feels the need to complete. He'd been through phase after phase and was often successful at deceiving himself about how much he loved a subject, but they always left him bored in the end. He writes for himself mainly but loves the idea of other people enjoying his work. The premise for A Death Displaced came to him a few years ago but he only acted on it in 2011. Plans for a series are in place and he expects to release Book Two in the series in 2013.

- Why Live? by Kathy DiSanto - 2013-01-02 02:11:28-05
Kathy is a novelist. Also an infrequent poet. Most days, she would rather write than eat. Like the t-shirt says, she wasn’t born in Texas, but she got here as quickly as she could. Which wasn’t very quick at all. As a matter of fact, not counting a brief visit back in 1969, it took her decades. Hundreds, make that thousands, of turtles got to the Lone Start State before Kathy did. Picture a small-town California girl chomping at the bit to break out of the sticks and see the world. That was Kathy. About the time she graduated from high school, her friendly neighborhood United States Air Force recruiter offered her a ticket to ride. Sure enough, as soon as she signed on the dotted line, Uncle Sam whisked her off to exotic San Antonio for basic training; lovely Biloxi, MS, for more training (and hurricane Camille); then Washington, D.C. for the rest of her enlistment. So much for seeing the world. Four years and one honorable discharge later, she found herself in Pennsylvania Dutch Country, using the GI Bill to earn a bachelor’s degree in German from Millersville University and a master’s in same from Villanova. While at Villanova, she collected ample evidence to suggest she would never grow up to be a college professor. Let’s face it, very few universities consider the ability to lull 20 undergrads into catatonia in less than five minutes a hiring point. Ergo, she graduated with fluency but no marketable skills, although she did leave those hallowed halls with a fascination for language and a borderline obsession for grammar that have since proved useful. She spent the next decade or so as a stay-at-home mom to two sons (Leo and Nick), combating academic/business-speak, grammatical errors, and pesky typos as a freelance editor/proofreader for everyone from college students to professors to Armstrong World Industries. (You haven’t lived until you’ve proofread a flooring catalog.) Before she knew it, her sons were adults and insisted on being treated as such. Go figure. Pennsylvania wasn’t the laid-back West Coast she grew up on, but it was tolerable. Until the day the weather person cheerfully informed her the high would be six degrees with a wind chill of thirty below. At that point, Kathy started to rethink the whole living-in-the-Northeast scenario. Nose and fingers dutifully protected against frostbite, she picked herself up off the icy sidewalk (again), wondering if this might not be the perfect time to head for warmer climes. It was, and warmer climes turned out to be Texas. One problem. Her two incredibly talented and creative sons—musicians and artists, the both of them—flatly refuse to leave the frigid north for the sunny, drought-stricken, wide-open spaces. Even her best friend moved to New York. Since her favorite people are all up thataway, she’ll probably be emigrating back up yonder before too long. Meanwhile, she writes futuristic thrillers, works as a communications specialist, takes brisk walks with Molly (her dog), reads, and indulges in her latest hobby at the firing range. PROFESSIONAL STUFF Kathy got her feet wet penning romances for Bantam Loveswept back in 1997. She published two books with them—one of which, For Love or Money, won a 1997 Romantic Times Reviewer’s Choice Award—then life got complicated (for a very long time), and things changed, including her preferred genre. She has since self-published two futuristic thrillers. Amanda’s Eyes is a tale of murder and mayhem with a dash of “there are more things under heaven, Horatio.” Why Live? is two parts futuristic thriller, one part love story. She is currently working on the sequel to Amdanda’s Eyes, a journey into murder and mind control called Mind Games. Thanks to her day job as a communications specialist with a major university, Kathy has written more than one hundred features for print and the web. She is a member of Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, the Independent Author Network, the Independent Author Index, the Indie Writers’ Network, World Literary Cafe, and the International Association of Business Communicators.

- Printable Year-Round Cupcake Toppers and Wrappers - 2013-01-02 02:20:04-05
I'm a long-time paper crafter who finally had the guts to take my passion online in 2007. Since then, long sessions spent with tiny little scissors and lots of card stock has resulted in more cupcake toppers and invitation artwork than I knew what to do with. So now I've moved the whole kit-and-kaboodle to Amazon, to share it with a whole new audience. I hope you enjoy my books!

- Discreet Activities - 2013-01-02 02:21:41-05
I was born in Montreal, Canada, where I still reside with my spouse, Joanne. I completed my studies in human resources, accounting and management at McGill University and worked in various management capacities in the fields of HR and finance for a handful of firms for what seemed like decades, because it was. I should also mention I love pizza, but who doesn't and, in my opinion, nothing rocks more than cooking on the grill. My first stab at writing was in 1995, the result being my first novel, Vigilante. This was subsequently followed by The Consultant (1996) and Mind Games (1997), all of the same series. Professional obligations and other creative interests led me away from writing for a number of years but I found myself busy at the keyboard in 2009 with The Homeless Killer after having finally published my first three novels. I then followed up with 6 Hours 42 Minutes in 2011, also part of the VIGILANTE Series born from Vigilante. In July 2011, I released ASYLUM, my first stand-alone novel and Discreet Activities, my sixth VIGILANTE Series crime thriller was published in January 2012. I think I'm really starting to like this writing thing. Besides writing, editing and promoting my work, I also spend some artistic energy with my five guitars, oil paints and watercolours. Other passions include cooking (big time with fine wine to go with it, of course), reading, traveling and working out just enough to stay fit. It should also be noted that following several years of practice, I now excel at being cat furniture for Krystalle and Midnight, or so they tell me.

When Eva Natsumi was in adolescence she was diagnosed with a rare and debilitating illness. She realized that she could never do anything the normal way, and that cultured a creative view of life. She doesn't much care for genres. She writes what she wants to write. They're a little humorous, a lot dark, and mostly about twisted people.
