  20. Killer in Sight (A Tom Lackey Mystery) by Sandra Carrington-Smith - 2012-12-28 17:05:51-05
Sandra Carrington-Smith is an Italian-born author who relocated to the United States in the late 80’s after marrying a US soldier who was serving overseas. Although writing was Sandra’s deepest passion since childhood, her dream of becoming a published author had to be placed on hold for several years. Moving to a new country provided several challenges, the biggest one being the language barrier she encountered when she first arrived. In order to become fully integrated, Sandra tapped into her love for reading, and over time her vocabulary grew extensively. She gave birth to three children and devoted most of her time to raising a family. By the time she was in her late 30’s, Sandra decided to revisit her old passion for writing, and penned a novel of paranormal suspense, The Book of Obeah, followed by a self-improvement book, Housekeeping for the Soul: A Practical Guide to Restoring Your Inner Sanctuary. Both titles were sold to the same publisher and released in 2010, and The Book of Obeah went on to win an international book award. The Book of Obeah has been optioned for film, and production is expected to start early summer 2013. It will also be released as an audio book in the second quarter of 2013 by Cherry Hill Publishing, and narrated by Dave Fennoy, better known as the Hulu Guy. Currently, Sandra is working on two new novels: The Key (book number three in the Crossroads Series), and Shadows of a Tuscan Moon. Killer in Sight (A Tom Lackey Mystery) was released in May 2012. The Rosaries (book number two in the Crossroads Series) just released in December 2012. Sandra Carrington-Smith lives in Raleigh, NC, with her husband, children and three cats. Killer in Sight (A Tom lackey Mystery) was released in May 2012.
  21. Destitute Dan – Part 1: The Big Pacific Wake Up - 2012-12-28 17:06:54-05
Born in 1988, Daniel Newcomer spent most of his childhood with his nose deep into a whole assortment of books, reading everything from Goosebumps and Fear Street to the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy. Daniel never went anywhere without at least one book to read, and by the time he reached junior high school he started writing comedic, fantasy stories that were by all means purely bizarre. As his life matured he grew quite fond of the classics, making the unabridged version of The Count of Monte Cristo his greatest accomplishment in reading. Daniel also matured his writing life as well, growing into poetry in journalism. His first experience in journalism publishing was for his high school, Monroe High, came with his first experience in dealing with a libel suit from the lunch ladies, after publishing a piece regarding the general opinion of the school’s lunch food. For the rest of the school year, his writing brought him terrible food. From then on, Daniel has only continued to grow his writing career and ideology regarding writing, journalism, and the need for literature in society. For Daniel, writing and being a writer goes beyond the simple act of writing, as he feels that writing encompasses a person’s entire life, from their stream of consciousness to their window of perception. It’s all about the experience according to Daniel, as those experiences can shape the unique way that a writer can tell others a story, and therefore the story, although it has been told many times before, will always be different and hopefully shed new lights on the way that the reader enriches their own life. On the other hand and in a simpler tone, Daniel just loves to write things that he thinks “sound cool.” As a lifelong reader, writing for Daniel is like experiencing a story as it unfolds, where it is impossible to look at the last page just to know if the character survives. In order for Daniel to write, he also feels the need to live, including various activities in his life such as sky diving, water skiing, mountain climbing, cross country biking, pita delivery boy, and harmonica wailing. Everyone’s experiences are different, and therefore if anyone wants to write, they can; the only thing that Daniel feels you need to write is a couple bottles of bum glue.

Laura Pauling writes for all ages where the real and the incredible combine in heart stopping adventures. She lives out her desire for travel and excitement in her young adult Circle of Spies Series: A Spy Like Me and Heart of an Assassin. Her middle grade, How To Survive Ancient Spells and Crazy Kings is available now. She’d say that living her life of a suburban mom/author complete with minivan carpools, soccer games, and home-baked snicker doodles are really a cover for her exciting life of secret missions and covert operations, but she’d be lying. She loves living in New England with her husband and children. She has yet to find someone who can beat her at Boggle.
  24. Fox’s Bride - 2012-12-28 17:09:08-05
A.E. Marling wrote his first fantasy novella after his freshman year in high school. In college, he found nothing gave him a greater urge to write than science lectures, and he sat through a lot of ‘em. He has yet to repent his fascination with fantasy and is intrigued by its grip on the human imagination. Both ambidextrous and word-voracious, his diet ranges from Arthurian legends to Jane Austen. He denies being a running addict, though he has to shout it over the noise of the treadmill. He dances as directed by demons. And, yes, he partakes in fantasy-related gaming. His best writing ideas pounce on him when he would rather be sleeping, thanks to insomnia. His current lair is in the shadow of San Francisco, and his thoughts touch ground there between flights.
  25. Look and Feel Great! How to Lose Weight in 2 Weeks. by Caroline Monroe - 2012-12-28 17:14:50-05
Hello, my name is Caroline Monroe, and I want to be your personal Diet Coach! Trust me, I know how expensive having a personal diet coach, or a personal trainer, or even how expensive a gym membership can be. I’ve been there and done that. What I found was that I could lose some weight, but as soon as a few weeks went by, I was back to my old fat self. I lost pounds, as well as money on fad diets, but at the end, the results were all the same. Nothing really worked for me. The weight just kept coming back. Finally, I had enough. I wanted to find a solution that would really work, and not only work, but last. A solution that could help many people change their lives in the shortest time possible. What I found was a program that helped me lose 16 pounds, 2 dress sizes and 3 inches foam my waist in only 2 weeks! And not only that, but it has helped me keep the weight off for a full year now.

Now Andrew focuses not on the world of sports, but on science fiction. His novels are fast paced, character driven stories sure to keep you engaged and on the edge of your seat. His writing blends character development with quick paced narrative and plenty of action. He can be reached at avwrite@gmail.com

Bob Wernly was there, and the characters and thoughtful telling of the story provides a fascinating insight into the era. The reviews have been amazing. The direct link to the trailer is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQBnqNNNHUE&feature=plcp Bob and Kathy have decided to take their newly launched co-writing career in a different direction, writing for young adults with stories drawn from real-life of teen suicide, bullying, runaways, abuse and drugs. 29. Professor Kompressor by Nils Andersson - 2012-12-28 21:52:36-05
Nils Andersson was born in 1964 in a small town in Sweden. He grew up, as people tend to do, formed a range of opinions about this, that and the other, and eventually went to Uppsala University to study physics. Unable to contemplate a real job, he left his homeland after finishing his PhD in 1991. Having roamed the world for a few years, he settled in the United Kingdom where he now works as a professor of Mathematics (not a real job!). He has always loved books, in all shapes and sizes, and probably reads a bit too much for his own good. Most of the stuff he writes can be found in science journals, and tends to be awfully technical (perhaps boring) on things like dead stars, black holes and waves of gravity. This has made him wonder what it would be like to write a "real" book. Maybe one day he will find out...

  35. Saving Findlay Finch - 2012-12-28 22:03:20-05
I am informed that some sort of bio blurb is mandatory on a website like this. Who, you ask, is this tool, exactly? So, just the (boring) facts, mam. I was born and raised in Peterborough, Ontario. I attended PCVS and can boast that I was the first student expelled for wearing bellbottoms. They were grey pin-stripe and very, very cool. Later that same year I was expelled for wearing “denim-ish” trousers. However my mother phoned the principal and informed him that they were merely blue cotton and most definitely not denim. Later that same year I was expelled yet again – this time for forging parental notes to the principal telling him I was unable to attend school due to a) having a cold b) having the flu c) a dental appointment d) an earache e) whatever. Where I made my mistake was in bringing a legitimate note to school which differed drastically from the 12 previous notes they had on file. I attended Glendon College, York University, got a B.A. in English Lit. and was almost expelled for lack of attendance. (This is embarrassing: the professor who chastised me for my spotty attendance at his Can Lit seminars was a relatively unknown poet named Michael Ondaatje. It is my understanding that Mr. Ondaatje has since become rather well known.) In 1987 I married the love of my life – a girl from Peterborough by name of Karen Ward. We immediately moved to Lunenburg NS and lived out east for twenty odd years. In 2009 we moved to the unbelievably beautiful city of Victoria BC and here we shall remain. I’ve written several novels, some stage plays, radio plays, and screenplays. All with very limited monetary rewards. I’ve also had a lot of fun hamming it up on (amateur) stages over the years. (I have supported my writing habit over the years by selling antique lamps and renovating historic homes.) Moonlit Days and Nights was my first completed novel and it won the Canadian Crime Writers Arthur Ellis award for Best First Novel. That was very unexpected and pleasant. It was published by Cormorant Press in over-sized paperback format. As it happens, I have about 50 copies lying around and would be very pleased to sell them to someone much like your good self. They cost $16.99 plus shipping. I should point out that, for the ebook version, I edited out about 50 pages, so the paper version is longer. I spent roughly two years researching 1890's Toronto before writing Moonlit. (Believe it or not, the internet as we now know it had yet to be invented at that time.) When I began I was almost totally ignorant of the social dynamics of Victorian Toronto society and, to a large extent, the simple physical elements. Did hansom cabs exist in Toronto? Was there a counterpart to London's Cafe' Royale or New York's Delmonicos? What were the most contentious issues of the day? In the course of my research, I discovered that of course they had hansom cabs in Toronto and wonderful theatres and international celebrities and fine restaurants and sumptuous brothels and drugs galore, and dishonest policemen and underworld gangs and all the other wonderful elements that make up the best Victorian Crime / Adventure Fiction. I have taken great pains to set the dramatic scenes inside or around existing Victorian buildings and parks so as to aid the reader's imagination. In fact, the nar¬rator plants a ransom note under Sir John A. MacDonald's right shoe or at least the bronze statue of Sir John in Queen's Park.

  41. In Zuni, Zymotic - 2012-12-29 01:18:03-05
Eiffel Tower Lowe "burned herself up" in the pink room -- or that's what Daddy told me. The pink room was right down the hall from my childhood bedroom, and there was a fireplace at the end of the bed. The gruesome mystery of Tower Lowe haunted me all my life, so I stole her name for my mystery stories. Cinnamon is the woman sleuth and Burro is her assistant in my current indie series. The series starts with the unexplained beating death of a middle school boy in Dulce, New Mexico (In Dulce, Disturbed). The investigators travel around the state, meeting quirky characters and solving criimes using Burro's hallucinations to provide clues. Writing is what I want to do! It’s probably one of the only things I take seriously. I’ve been writing poems and short stories since I was about 15, I just kind of clicked with it at school and it stuck. In all honesty I’ve never been a big reader my self only reading maybe 10 books in my life! I think it’s to do with my concentration or lack of attention, something has to really grab me by the throat if it wants my full undivided attention. Here’s an example of me lacking…when I was younger I had one lesson of jeet kwan do and then quit. I had 3 lessons of choi kwan do…..then quit. It really didn’t do it for me! The only things that have truly grabbed me are music and writing. I love it! When I say I love music, please don’t get the impression that I can play multiple instruments all with my eyes shut and my hand tied behind my back…because I cant, I cant really play much of anything, but listening to music…that’s my thing. Theres something about music and song lyrics I find more influencing than anything else on earth. It’s amazing that when you find songs you like you can be captivated for 3-4 minutes, it can be like nothing else exists. With my poetry I try to aim for the same kind of thing, short pieces of writing that you can easily work your way through but still they can capture you and make you think. I tend not to beat around the bush with my writing and a lot of it could be seen as dark but I personally believe that everybody has these kind of thoughts but choose not to mention them.

  55. Nighttime Tales: Volume 1 - 2012-12-29 16:38:08-05
I started writing in third grade, which was just over twenty years ago. I’ve done comics, short stories, poetry, and now I’ve reached into novels. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing from Southern Illinois University - Carbondale, where I studied under some of the absolute best teachers a developing writer could have. I like paranormal stuff--have for as long as I can remember--so it only felt natural when I became serious about writing that I gravitated toward paranormal adventures. They’re fun to do (magic? fantastic creatures? IN!), and I end up telling very grounded, very human stories, just set against a supernatural backdrop. It’s really the best of both worlds for me.

  58. Girlfriend Trouble by Robert Shaw - 2012-12-29 16:41:56-05
So far I've written a couple of books that I think might be worth a reader's time - hopefully readers out in the world will discover and agree. One's an edgy (meaning it's got some nasty stuff in it) modern Gothic zombie tale (and that means no brain-eating zombies because I think there's enough of those guys out there already); the other's a YA comedy/drama about a boy who meets and falls in love with a girl who stutters. It's cute, sappy and butt-kicking! Now I'm writing a thunderously violent slightly sci-fi tale of how the Old West wasn't. It features a really strong and determined female lead character (which if you read my two previous books, you'll see is my favorite kind of character).

  61. How to FAIL at Screenwriting: Lesson #1 – Get Stuck on a Project for 11+ Months, Like I Did with “Stuck at Taffy’s” by Adam Kosloff - 2012-12-29 17:04:33-05
Adam Kosloff is a Yale University educated hack web writer - a.k.a. a "churnalist" - who has single-handedly pumped out over 31,000 web content pages (15 million words!) and written multiple critically-admired eBooks. After graduating Yale in 1999 with a degree in physics, Adam moved to Los Angeles to try to "make it" as a screenwriter. He basically failed... although he did write a few TV show episodes that got produced and worked with legendary filmmaker Mel Brooks. In 2007, while working as a hack-web-writer by day and struggling screenwriter by night, Adam had a "come to Jesus" moment, sparked by science writer Gary Taubes' book Good Calories, Bad Calories. This book convinced Adam not only to stop eating carbohydrates but also to abandon the screenwriting stuff in favor of advocating for Taubes' alternative theory about obesity, the Lipophilia Hypothesis. Adam is convinced that this theory holds the key to ending the obesity epidemic, curing most chronic diseases and saving humanity. His blog, Caloriegate, and podcast, Escape from Caloriegate, chronicle the broad implications of Lipophilia and other strange but cool counterintuitive ideas. So is Adam a hack web blogger? A comedy writer? A serious journalist who hopes to radically change institutional science? Yes! The one theme that binds this motley body of work together is Adam's passion for looking at old problems from new perspectives. As Albert Einstein once said, "the mere formulation of a problem is far more essential than its solution, which may be merely a matter of mathematical or experimental skills. To raise new questions, new possibilities, to regard old problems from a new angle requires creative imagination and marks real advances in science." Yes, I actually just quoted Einstein in my biography. I kind of hate myself for doing that. But as they say on Reddit, YOLO :)

  101. The Siren of Paris - 2012-12-29 19:23:04-05
My first passion in life is art. I started taking photographs when I was very young, until one day, I just started drawing and painting. It was my love of art that brought me to Europe in 2010. I never suspected that my art studies would lead me to writing a novel. I consider myself more of an accidental author, and I approach the task of writing with all the same creative visual tools I have from art studies. In writing my first novel, The Siren of Paris, I drew upon my longtime interest in philosophy, the visual arts, myth, storytelling, psychology, and Ocean Liner travel. During a visit to France to study art in the fall of 2010, I became increasingly intrigued by the French Resistance, particularly when my research revealed the role of Americans in the Resistance, as well as the limited means of escape from Europe as the war escalated. I hold a bachelor of arts in philosophy and religion. I am drawn to stories of struggle, resistance, and overcoming incredible odds. My choice of scene creation is absolutely impacted by my visual mind. I pre-visualize the scenes in my mind first, and then use what tools I have through the written word to describe the action.
