- Bamboo Chicken - 2012-12-30 12:45:25-05
Anthony Veale’s provocative work, developed from a passion for the surreal, is brought to life through painting, sculpture and writing. Early illustrations for children’s books, commissioned by publishers Chatto, Boyd & Oliver and Harvey Hudson of New York, led to POTAMUS & POSY in THE MAGICAL PICTURE , an online picture book. His first novel, THE ORCHARD won recognition when it was adopted for coursework by St Mary’s University, Nova Scotia. Published by Imprint Academic in 2006, ISBN: 1845400585, it chronicles the rise and fall of Matt Flight, an idealistic young artist who believes he can change the world. This earthy and uncompromising read soon reaches out to embrace the madness of media, politics and celebrity embraced hysteria. BAMBOO CHICKEN is his second novel and first eBook production. Darkly comical with an original twist, it offers an alternative view on what awaits us after death.

- Mind Hurdles: Grade 3: 300 Interactive Questions and Answers To Get a Head Start - 2012-12-30 15:55:30-05
With over forty years experience teaching children and with five grandchildren, I'm constantly amazed by what grabs and keeps their attention. I've noticed through the years that the activities that are most likely to accomplish this are the ones that require them to actively participate. For example, when they were young, they were much more interested in doing something they could pickup, move or point to as opposed to an activity where they had to simply sit still and watch. That's where the idea for Mind Hurdles came into being. The Mind Hurdles books are INTERACTIVE, and are thus more interesting and challenging. Be sure to join the fun at http://mindhurdles.com where you can get Free Downloads, new book announcements and more.

- Glampire - 2012-12-30 16:57:15-05
Chris Dolley hit the headlines in 1974 when he was tasked with publicising Plymouth Rag Week. Some people might have arranged an interview with the local paper. Chris invaded the country next door, created the Free Cornish Army and persuaded the UK media that Cornwall had declared independence. This was later written up in Punch. As he told journalists at the time, ‘it was only a small country and I did give it back.’ In 1981, he wrote Necromancer, one of the first 3D first person perspective D&D computer games. Now he and his wife live in France. They grow their own food and solve their own crimes. The latter out of necessity after Chris’s identity was stolen along with their life savings. Abandoned by the police forces of four countries who all insisted the crime originated in someone else’s jurisdiction, he had to solve the crime himself. Which he did, driving back and forth across the Pyrenees, tracking down bank accounts and interviewing bar staff. The book, French Fried, is now an international bestseller. He's had novels published by Baen and Book View Cafe.

- The Beginning Of The End: Book Two (The T.B.O.T.E. Series) - 2012-12-30 17:06:47-05
I am Michael Edward, a husband, a father of six, a friend, and a self-proclaimed storyteller. I say storyteller because to use the word writer would be a misrepresentation, it might imply that I can write. I have always felt that my imagination was my strength and I always see everything as a movie. A lot of times when I write, its like I am sitting in a movie theater watching it on screen and I just write down what I see with the words that I know. I love to write screenplays and that bleeds into my writing style. Also, I have epilepsy, and my seizures have increased, so if they bleed into the writing I apologize. I just want to tell entertaining stories that give people a chance to escape reality for a bit. I mean no disrespect to writers. Right now I have seven stories available to read: Enter Sandman, Fearlings ONE, Fearlings TWO, Fearlings THREE, The Beginning Of The End: Book One and Book Two and then I have WHY (A storyteller's diary). I am currently working on The Beginning On The End: Book Three and Book Four and hope to have it available by the end of November, 2012. I am also always working on the sequels Enter Sandman TWO and Fearlings FOUR and will make them available as soon as they are completed. I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read the sample chapters, to buy the stories, or to leave reviews. Like I said, being a husband and a father of six, I understand how valuable time is, and again, thank you.

These are the things she tries to express in her writing and filmmaking. Imagine a vampire's seduction blended with a werewolf's desire for the hunt for that is Jeffrey Bolden. A romantic with a cold heart. A happy depression. In essence, Jeffrey Bolden is conflict, the vessel for the war between good and evil and you know often times which side is winning simply by looking into his dark eyes.

- Milkshake’s Utterly Genius TV Show Ideas - 2012-12-30 18:57:32-05
Adam Kosloff is a Yale University educated hack web writer - a.k.a. a "churnalist" - who has single-handedly pumped out over 31,000 web content pages (15 million words!) and written multiple critically-admired eBooks. After graduating Yale in 1999 with a degree in physics, Adam moved to Los Angeles to try to "make it" as a screenwriter. He basically failed... although he did write a few TV show episodes that got produced and worked with legendary filmmaker Mel Brooks. In 2007, while working as a hack-web-writer by day and struggling screenwriter by night, Adam had a "come to Jesus" moment, sparked by science writer Gary Taubes' book Good Calories, Bad Calories. This book convinced Adam not only to stop eating carbohydrates but also to abandon the screenwriting stuff in favor of advocating for Taubes' alternative theory about obesity, the Lipophilia Hypothesis. Adam is convinced that this theory holds the key to ending the obesity epidemic, curing most chronic diseases and saving humanity. His blog, Caloriegate, and podcast, Escape from Caloriegate, chronicle the broad implications of Lipophilia and other strange but cool counterintuitive ideas. So is Adam a hack web blogger? A comedy writer? A serious journalist who hopes to radically change institutional science? Yes! The one theme that binds this motley body of work together is Adam's passion for looking at old problems from new perspectives. As Albert Einstein once said, "the mere formulation of a problem is far more essential than its solution, which may be merely a matter of mathematical or experimental skills. To raise new questions, new possibilities, to regard old problems from a new angle requires creative imagination and marks real advances in science." Yes, I actually just quoted Einstein in my biography. I kind of hate myself for doing that. But as they say on Reddit, YOLO :)
- A Line in the Sand by Justin Burgess - 2012-12-30 19:00:19-05
Justin started writing during his third combat deployment, as a way to fight stress using a creative outlet. His first book, Another Day in Paradise, intially began as a fictional narrative about his frustrations during the war in Afghanistan, and to tell a story of the men and women fighting overseas from the perspective of a regular soldier. As the scope of the project grew, feedback from friends and fellow service-members was so positive that he decided to self-publish the book on Amazon. He's now continuing his work on the American War saga, about an insurgency in the United States, set in the near future. Look for the first book in the series , titled 'A Line in the Sand' and available now.
- Fatal Error by Eileen Schuh - 2012-12-30 19:01:03-05
This is Eileen Schuh's fourth published book and the second in her BackTracker Series. She intends to use this new release to reach at-risk children, just as she did with THE TRAZ. Her author presentations to youngsters and the adults in their lives have met with accolades as evidenced from the follow letter of reference regarding her work with inmates at the North Slave Young Offenders Facility. Fatal Error explores social issues such as accepting responsibility, dealing with victimization, and developing a sense of justice. A Readers Discussion/Teaching guide in downloadable pdf format is available on Schuh's website: http://www.eileenschuh.com/readers-discussion-guides/ Reference Letter: CircleNorth Training #16 - 46 Con Road Yellowknife, NT X1A 1X6 May 4, 2012 To Whom it May Concern, It is a pleasure to write this letter of reference for Eileen Schuh, author of The Traz and Schrodinger’s Cat and other publications. In December, 2011, we were fortunate to have Eileen deliver an author presentation to a group of seven teenagers (male and female) at North Slave Young Offenders Facility in Yellowknife. Several youth workers were also present at the session that I organized for the facility. CircleNorth Training has a contract with youth corrections to deliver training sessions for staff and programs for youth. One important component of our initiative is to offer when possible, quality presentations by authors and illustrators who visit Yellowknife. Opportunities for literacy activities are especially important for the youth and greatly appreciated by the staff. Teenagers who are in custody can at times be a difficult audience with whom to engage. Eileen had no problem with this, as the youth responded well to her open, honest, relaxed, and non-judgmental style with them. Being a writer for young adults, she understands their issues and challenges and quickly won them over and kept their attention. Eileen discussed concerns for teenagers such as gang behaviour, drugs, decision-making, and how to pursue one’s hopes and dreams. In her comfortable and straight forward manner she also talked about her experience of becoming an author and about the publishing and writing industry. Eileen was very inspiring and encouraging to the youth as they listened intently to what she had to share, including some of her own life challenges. Eileen’s books were brought to life through the playing of the video book trailer, a reading from The Traz, and the follow-up question and answer session. Eileen was very well prepared for her presentation, an important factor when working with teens whose attention span can be limited at times. Eileen’s enthusiasm for her stories and good sense of humour were contagious and kept the attention of the group throughout the presentation. Copies of Eileen’s books were well received by the youth, several of whom instantly laid claim to being the first to read them! For youth today, it is very important that books are available in electronic format as well as in print – another great advantage of Eileen’s books which makes them accessible to a very wide audience. I believe strongly in supporting Canada’s new and upcoming authors of quality literature, particularly those who write for the teenage audience. It is therefore with great pleasure that I recommend Eileen Schuh as a presenting author to bring her relevant and fascinating stories to youth in other parts of Canada for all to enjoy. Please feel free to contact me in this regard if you need additional information. Sincerely, Lynn Taylor School Librarian – Yellowknife Education District No.1 Principal – CircleNorth Training 867-446-0032 Lynn.taylor@yk1.nt.ca CircleNorthtraining@gmail.com

- Finding Rebecca: A Novel of Love and the Holocaust - 2012-12-30 23:01:48-05
Christopher would always be there for Rebecca no matter what it took, from the beaches of Jersey to the hell of the holocaust and Auschwitz. The prisoners in Auschwitz called it Canada, the land of unimaginable riches, where the last possessions of those who perished in the gas chambers were gathered and counted. Christopher is the new head of Canada, the ‘Dollar King.’ He is the one who controls the river of dirty money flowing through the camp. But Christopher is on a different mission. He is not in Auschwitz to serve the Reich, but to find Rebecca, lost somewhere inside the sprawling system of concentration camps set up to murder the innocent victims of the holocaust. They were six years old when they meet on the island of Jersey in 1924. Christopher, recently arrived from Germany with his sister, and grieving father, and Rebecca, born and raised on the island, the daughter of an abusive father and alcoholic mother. Their lives would never be the same. When Rebecca runs away as a teenager to England to escape her parents Christopher thinks he has lost her forever, but nothing can keep them apart, not her parents, or the fiancée she brings back with her from England, or even the war clouds gathering over Europe. When World War II comes to Jersey with the Nazi invaders, Christopher tries to hide Rebecca’s Jewish roots, but along with millions of other victims of the holocaust, Rebecca is swallowed up by the evils of the Nazi regime. As Christopher searches for Rebecca he finds the noose around his own neck tightening, as he struggles to not only maintain his cover, but also the grip on his soul amongst the melee of death and corruption that is daily currency in the camp. Christopher knows that one misstep by him will mean not only the end of his own life but surely that of Rebecca’s also. But Christopher finds that his position in the camp as the man in charge of the money in the corrupt world of Auschwitz affords him opportunities, and that sometimes the mission, and the life that fate leads us to is not necessarily the one we had in mind. Meticulously researched, Finding Rebecca is a searing testament to the ultimate bravery in the face of unspeakable evil and the power of love and forgiveness.
