  1. Paleo Ice Cream: 31 Healthy Recipes for the Primal Sweet Tooth - 2012-12-17 12:19:56-05
I was born and bred in Seattle, WA and grew up a big sports fan who attended public schools through high school. Health had always been a significant interest but during my freshman year at Dickinson College, where I was enrolled in the Health Studies program, health developed from an interest to a passion. I have since gotten certified as a personal trainer through WITS and am excited to begin my journey as a trainer. Though I have a passion for movement, I believe the kitchen is where people can improve their health the most. To this end I have been learning as much as I can about nutrition and creating recipes that both nourish the body and satisfy the taste buds. The people who have influenced my thinking about health the most are Tim Ferriss, David Asprey, Steve Kamb, and Mark Sisson. It is so important for people to understand what healthy food is, and for them to be able to get past cost and convenience barriers to eat that healthy food. I'm in the health game because so many have a low quality of life as a result of poor health. I want to be part of the group of people who changes that.

Then, taking a sharp turn in her education, she earned her M.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Michigan. During the years she spent in advancing her career--first as an architect, and later as a software engineer, software team leader, software manager and a software consultant (with an emphasis on user interface for medical instruments devices)--she wrote and painted constantly, and exhibited in Israel and California. In addition, she taught art appreciation classes. Her versatile body of work can be seen online at uviart.com. 5. Toxic by Vicki V Lucas - 2012-12-17 12:24:37-05
I have always struggled with the question “What are you going to be when you grow up?” Certain I wanted to be a psychologist, I attended Providence Bible College and received my Bachelor’s in Psychology...only to find myself with no desire to counsel people. I switched careers to Teaching English as a Second Language and obtained a Master’s from Seattle Pacific University. Thankfully, I found joy in the classroom. Teaching at universities and community colleges gave me eleven years of incredible experiences, remarkable coworkers, and unforgettable friends from many different countries. However, the distant mountains began to call, and I responded, not knowing where I was going or what my purpose was. After a year and a half of traveling through the quiet places that are left in the world, I settled in Montana with my husband and my dog. I have begun to write the stories I heard on the wind.
  6. Makeovers For Women: 40, Curvy and Ready For A Change by Thibault Masson - 2012-12-17 12:25:10-05
Founder of Plus-Size-Magazine.com (USA), PLus-Size-Tall.com (UK) and Ma-Grande-Taille.com (France). What has a French guy, who is neither big, no tall, to do with Plus Size Fashion? Simple story: Blame it on Corinne, my dear full-figured sister! In 2007, she and I had an exchange about plus size fashion. Why was there no magazines dedicated to plus size fashion, while more than 40% of women in the France, in the US, and in the UK are considered "full-figured". We went online and were amazed to see that there were not that many websites providing plus size fashion news at the time. So, we launched together our first site, Ma-Grande-Taille.com, a site dedicated to French curvy women and big and tall men. Then, in 2008, we launched Plus-Size-Tall.com, a site for British curvy women and big men. In 2012, we launched Plus-Size-Magazine.com, for our US readers, again for women and men. Finally, in late 2012, we launched CURVISSIME, a high end plus size fashion magazine for the iPad. This monthly magazine has an English and a French edition.

As a result, she reaches out to young and old readers alike with her message about the importance of seeking God and staying connected to his Word. 27. Teen Idol Terror - 2012-12-17 14:27:31-05
I'm living proof that it's never too late to write your first book. At the age of nine, way back in 1975, I wrote my first short story called The Nine Lives of Timmy the Cat. It was about a cat that travelled the country, helping people along the way, and often sacrificing one of his nine lives to save somebody. I never sent it to a publisher, but vowed from that day to write a series that would be published. So, 36 years on, the Jenny Johnson mystery series was born. I used to read two to three books a week between the ages of 7 and 13 - it was a time that sparked the imagination and inspired me to become a journalist. The aim of the Jenny Johnson series is to encourage children between the ages of 7 and 12 to discover a love for reading, to paint their own imaginary pictures instead of allowing TV to paint them. In an age where social media, mobile phones and wall-to-wall TV dominates, there's still nothing like a reading a story, going on a journey with the author, solving clues along the way, becoming friends with the characters. I want children to feel inspired the way I was inspired by the likes of Enid Blyton's Famous Five and Secret Seven series. So, who am I? I was born and educated in Liverpool, and all I ever wanted to do from the age of eight was to become a sports journalist. After university, I joined my first newspaper in 1989 - the Accrington Observer in Lancashire - and went on to work for several newspapers before returning to Liverpool as assistant sports editor on the Liverpool Echo. In 2002, I was appointed sports editor for the Lancashire Telegraph, and I'm now assistant editor at BBC Sport. I'm married to Sharon and we have three children: Laura, Callum and Jenny.

I told the potential buyers that it was a gamble - that it could be kindling if I didn't make it, or it could be worth something if I did. I also included the first chapter. It sold for $287.50. I may be on to something here.

  47. The Time Traveler’s Guide To Health, Wealth & Romance - 2012-12-17 19:10:49-05
I think I spent the first 30 years of my life daydreaming, creating strange and unlikely scenarios and playing what-if in my head. I managed to honorably get through the Navy as a medic and later went on to putting in 12 years as an RN. I followed that with several years buying and selling real estate in a tri-county area of Puget Sound, Washington. I can't say I wasn't happy but I will say I was unsettled. It seems that everything I've done has led me here. I was past the age of 40 when I had the urge to document the techniques I'd used as a real estate investor. That led to my first published book. I'd always been a storyteller but now I had stories to tell. And in between a long stint of writing nonfiction how-to books I'd steal time to work at my passion, writing fiction. So here I am. I can't seem to stop writing. Story ideas come at me like bats in a 3-D movie theater. I almost literally have to duck sometimes as the ideas flow. I've got a notebook with dozens of well-developed ideas. Some of the books I've published sat dormant for many years. What a relief it's been getting them out and having people enjoy them. I'm in it for the long haul now. I'm fond of stories that inspire people. But that doesn't mean my work is fluffy or make me a starry eyed Pollyanna. Regardless of what a character in one of my stories might endure you can be sure he will learn something that makes a difference in his life. Either that or he'll get his ass handed to him. Such is life, huh?

  52. Return of the bones by Belinda Vasquez Garcia - 2012-12-17 19:16:35-05
I was born in the Los Angeles area and, also, grew up in the Land of Enchantment in Albuquerque. My family was poor. My mother had an 8th grade education and my father was a high school dropout. At twelve years of age, my father deserted our family. As a child, I was fascinated by witches. My family often spoke of the supernatural and believed in witchcraft. My fictional books reach beyond regional geography to entice anyone who enjoys the world of mysticism, the power of magic and sorcery, but with spice. My grandmother used to cut my brother's hair, and then burn the cuttings so no witch or warlock could harm him by using any physical part of him to cast a spell or make an effigy. I have a strong Native American influence from my youth. This old Native American with skin like leather, used to visit my dad and they'd sit around the table, smoke and drink. He wore a bandana around his iron-grey hair, with a braid falling to the middle of his back. He wore whiskey-stained khakis, a colorful Native American shirt and high-top tennis shoes. My dad would sputter words of drunken wisdom and the old man would grunt. He'd then wobble drunkenly to the end of our street where he worked as a live-in summer gardner for my aunt. He perspiredin a one-room shed with a cot for a bed. I confess to being a perfectionist and do a lot of research to add as much realism as possible to my paranormal books or any other supernatural novels I write. I have a degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of New Mexico (click here to learn more) and worked as a Software Engineer and Web Developer for Sandia National Laboratory (click here to learn more). From the bottom of my heart, I sincerely thank you for your interest in my books!

  72. Jacob’s Soul - 2012-12-17 21:08:53-05
Writing and storytelling has always been a creative outlet for L. M. Faircloth, and a hobby she kept private for many years. Only family and close friends knew she indulged in such a passion. Over the last couple of years, L. M. has brought writing into the forefront of her life, to turn the hobby into a career. She writes fiction based on real life issues and often tragedies of the heart and soul, with a thread to personal life experiences of her own. She strives to have her readers engross themselves in her stories, and connect with the characters, finding them relatable and compelling. "Jacob's Soul" does exactly this, pulling one in with a heart wrenching, sometimes frightening, intriguing story of a battle between good and evil. Born and raised in Baltimore Maryland, L. M. Faircloth enlisted in the US Air Force following high school, and was very fortunate to travel to many different locations around the world, and back and forth across this country several times. She has always been proud of her time spent in the service, and cherishes the many memories and friendships made. This has given L. M. a unique worldly perception of people and places that she draws on in her writing, creating realistic environments and strong characters. Currently, L. M. Faircloth lives close to her daughter and family in south-central PA, and is working on her second novel, "It Was About the War", a Vietnam story. She writes this story from the perspective of several service members living though and surviving a war that changes them for life. The friendships forged are strong and the losses are overwhelming, as they see one another at their worst, and at their very best. L. M. plans to have this novel released this coming spring.
  73. Tales from The Bear and Lion - 2012-12-17 21:09:34-05
    S. M. White survives on a steady diet of Fantasy novels, sweet tea, and procrastination. He has no liking for cold weather or small arrogant animals. In regards to his writings, he is quoted as saying, "I think I'm a swell writer, although I do tend towards the exceptional." Later, he rescinded the latter half of the quote in an effort to seem humble. But the damage was done. Asked to describe himself in one word, Mr. White responded with, "Why?" After a moment of thinking, he said, "Damn, I should have said 'inquisitive.'" Once given a firm shake, Mr. White eventually ceases with the japery and hands over his thoughts on writing fantasy. "I find myself leaning more in the direction of grime and grit and terrible things. I think this is because that aspect of life is the polar opposite of who I am and what I experience. And I find it interesting and engaging to place characters in horrible situations, beneath immeasurable duress, and see how they deal. With fantasy there are few set rules. The whole of my imagination is laid out before me, and often that's unlucky for my characters." He also has two dogs, Alana and Dio, that he scolds hourly, as well as a maddeningly energetic cat named Montoya.

A native of Southern California, Christine Pope has been writing stories ever since she commandeered her family’s Smith-Corona typewriter back in the sixth grade. Her short fiction has appeared in Astonishing Adventures, Luna Station Quarterly, and the journal of dark fiction, Dark Valentine. Two of her short stories have been nominated for the Pushcart Prize. Christine Pope writes as the mood takes her, and her work encompasses paranormal romance, fantasy, horror, science fiction, and historical romance. She blames this on being easily distracted by bright, shiny objects, which could also account for the size of her shoe collection. After spending many years in the magazine publishing industry, she now works as a freelance editor and graphic designer in addition to writing fiction. She lives with her husband and an explosively fluffy Pomeranian mix in the San Gabriel Valley of Southern California, and in fact just returned to the town where she was born, thus disproving the theory that you can’t go home again.

He's done close protection for UK celebrities in Fiji and chased feral pigs and snakes out of the jungle film sets on Steven Spielberg's and Tom Hank's epic: The Pacific. Instead, Luke utilized it to fuel his own expansive imagination and began writing fiction. Initially starting with short stories, Luke rapidly progressed onto novels. All three of Luke's books have been category best sellers on Amazon, with over one hundred and twenty thousand copies being distributed to date.

  110. Brian’s Here: First Tale from the Hotel Central by Gil C. Schmidt - 2012-12-18 15:55:24-05
When I wasn't tearing around the neighborhood crashing into things (trees can be tricky) or acting like each baseball game (or any game, for that matter) was a "winner take all" epic, I was reading. Plenty of short stories, particularly those in "Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine" and "Boy's Life." Also comic books, tons and tons of comic books, along with science fiction by the truckloads. And anything else I could find, from "Newsweek" and "Reader's Digest" to "Highlights" and the encyclopedia. Like most avid readers, I wanted to read more than the story in front of me: I wanted to read MY story, the way I would write it. Started in the 7th grade and received praise, which was nice, but I knew I needed to do better. Kept writing, pages and pages that were stored in boxes, page that were taken out every few months and after re-reading to see if I'd made progress, stored again, out of sight. Started submitting and got rejected, but sold three stories on my first day of acceptance into professionalism and that kept me on track. Now I write daily, though most of it is not fiction. Still, it is writing, and when I get the chance--or more precisely, when I make the chance--to write fiction, I revert to the boy on the couch, lost in a story. I think that most writers truly love that feeling, of being "in" the story, lost but intrigued by what comes next. I'm currently working on a new fantasy series, the second book of The Phenomenologists and a dystopian serial novel. Hopefully most of that will see the light of day (or the backlight of a Kindle reader) in 2013.

  113. The Object: Book One - 2012-12-18 16:26:48-05
Hello. My name is Winston Emerson, and I'm an author. I deleted my former bio in which I pretended I didn't write it by referring to myself in the third person. It seemed distasteful and dishonest. I decided I wanted to be a writer in April 1998. Up until then I'd spent every waking hour reading books, boasting to others that I owned a hardback and paperback copy of every single Stephen King novel. I owe to Stephen King my entire writing career. My teenage years passed with more memories of his stories than of my own life. Naturally, when I started writing short stories, most of them fell in the horror genre. A zombie story about two sheriff's deputies sitting in a boat at night during a raging flood, babysitting a cemetery and anchoring the newly buried caskets that popped out of the ground. A story about nuclear holocaust. A rip-off of Stephen King's The Mist, only with genetically altered kudzu vines instead of fog. Ghosts, demons, vampires, psychopaths, and, of course, plenty of evil and corrupt authority figures such as high school principals, police, and small-town government officials. I read biographies on Stephen King, learned how he submitted his short stories to literary publications and dirty magazines, and did the same. Rejection slips piled up as high as my stack of stories. I was one prolific kid, easily rounding off 300,000 words before I wrote my first novel. Then at the age of sixteen, I received a rejection slip with a note scrawled at the bottom. It said something like, "Opening is awkward. Rework and then resubmit." That's when I convinced myself I was destined for stardom. At seventeen, I got accepted to the Kentucky Governor's School for the Arts. Another milestone in my younger life. I also wrote my first book that year, a 180,000 word waste of paper entitled Chelsea's Picture. I graduated high school with five full tuition scholarship offers from various Kentucky universities and a few years later wrote my second novel, The Drought. Fast forward ten years and I still don't have a bachelor's degree. I've always held to the maxim that no one can teach you to write. In college, I felt distracted, lost, and kind of cheesy, if that makes sense. But that's okay. In March 2012, I decided to self-publish my third novel, A Circle in the Woods, and now, seven months later, I'm close to being able to quit my job and write full time, the only thing I've ever wanted to do, besides marry my wife, Kylie. I do give my books away for free quite often, and my current project is a three-book series of free serial novels. Come visit me at www.whatistheobject.com to read The Object: Book One (until its publication date, when I'll remove it from the blog and enroll it in KDP Select). Then in January I'll begin posting weekly episodes of Book Two. If you subscribe to the blog, you'll get notifications in your email any time my books come up free. Thanks for taking the time to read about my life. I promise my books are far more interesting. Winston

  119. Vengeance (The Pirate Series) - 2012-12-18 16:32:33-05
"If you are offended by my Australian style of writing, don't be, I am not offended by your different style of writing." G'day, I'm Bec Botefuhr and I'm a 25 year old Aussie girl. I love writing, I love horses, I love the outback. I am Australian born and bred and proud! I came up with my books from dreams and I love each and every one of them, I know my characters and I live them each day. My belief is that all Authors are great, no matter what they write. I can't stand judgmental readers and I am the type to never leave a bad review. My theory? We have done something people only dream of, we have put hours and hours into our work, we have been rejected, let down and abused but you know what? We did it. You can fault our work, you can fault our lives but you can't fault that! It is more than most ever do, so before judging an Author ask yourself this? Have you ever written a book? If the answer is no, then give us a break, we are are all brilliant!!! If our book bores you, put it down, it's really that simple. Nasty people create a nasty world and we don't have space for that! Life is short, live it happily. "True blue, is it me and you? Is it mum and dad? Is it a cockatoo? Is it standing by your mate, when she's in a fight? Or just Vegemite? True blue."

I graduated in 2000 and published my findings finally in 2002. I live in Hamburg since 2003, together with my husband and my cat "Mr. Spock". I'm still active in the non-fiction sector. In addition, I published two historical novels, one set in the Middle Ages (about the destruction of the Templars' Order) and one set in Ancient Egypt. Hearts' Desires is my first romance. At the moment, I'm about to finish a terrorist thriller.

  129. Flash Virus: Episode One by Steve Vernon - 2012-12-18 17:08:54-05
Basically, I'm a storyteller, born with a campfire burning at my feet. The word "boring" does not exist in my vocabulary - unless I'm talking about ice augers. I've been telling stories for as long as I was breathing. You lean close, come burial time, and you'll hear whispering in my coffin. My mom thinks the book is cool. So does my wife. Heck, my cat even purrs a little when ever I say "Flash Virus", especially when I am holding a freshly-opened tin of cat food. But don't take my word for it. Just grab this free book and give it a peek. That's your real acid test, now isn't it? Give a read of that first chapter - from when those cell phones start to ring - and see if it doesn't hook you - just a little. If you don't believe me, ask my cat. yours in storytelling, Steve Vernon

Brooks currently lives with her husband of 41 years and their ten pounds of poodle in the shadow of the Pine Nut Mountain Range near Carson City, Nevada. With family living several time zones away, get-a-ways and planning future retirement loom large. Her ‘day job’ of driving tour-buses in California and Nevada keep her fit. Having, driven motor-coaches professionally in 36 states and Mexico, her firsthand knowledge of the crazy things happening around commercial equipment has come in handy with her writing. In the Sierras she averages 8 minutes when installing 35 pound snow chains on her bus tires, but she has no real experience chaining a car. Brooks has many hair raising and funny stories involving buses and people. Her observations go a long way in creating her novels even when the story doesn’t involve a woman tour-bus driver. Brooks gives locations 'character' status so you may recognize locations in her novels. Whether you have visited the snowy mountains of California or the barren deserts of Nevada in real life, you'll recognize places and circumstances. If you are a first time visitor from your arm chair, you'll 'see', feel and fear as you never thought you could. The 'views' are spectacular as Brooks makes you aware of the dangers and needed precautions for safe enjoyment.

Risen was published as a mass market paperback for six months and then went out of print for six years. Once the rights reverted to the author, Jan issued it as a self-published ebook where it has enjoyed more success than it ever achieved on paper. With his second novel, The Summer We Lost Alice, Jan went softer and more mainstream while continuing to explore supernatural themes and play with the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. This time, he chose to go straight to self-publishing as a quicker and more efficient way to place the book before readers.

  146. How to Cook Up a Disaster by Rachel Elizabeth Cole - 2012-12-18 19:18:05-05
When it comes to writing, Rachel Elizabeth Cole has a bit of a multiple personality disorder. She loves, loves, loves children’s books, from charming picture books, to quirky and giggle-inducing middle grade novels, to gripping dystopian/post apocalyptic young adult novels. But she loves poignant, heart-tugging women’s fiction, laugh-out-loud funny chick-lit, and romantic comedy, too. She also loves beautifully wrought literary fiction and captivating historicals. Little wonder she writes across so many genres! Her short stories have appeared in literary magazines, both in print and online. Several of which are now available for Kindle and Kobo. When she's not writing, you might find her refurbishing old furniture rescued from thrift stores and garage sales, puttering in the garden despite the fact neither of her thumbs are the greenest, clipping coupons, carving down the local mountains on her snowboard, or shouting at the TV during Hockey Night in Canada. Her favourite season is autumn, she prefers tea to coffee, and wishes every morning began at ten a.m. Born on Vancouver Island, she's had a life-long love affair with its rugged coasts and windswept beaches. Many of her stories are set there. She hopes to return to ‘the Island’ one day, but for now, even though she hates the rain, she lives just outside Vancouver, British Columbia, with her husband, their two sons, and one very spoiled house rabbit.

  151. Hayden’s Holiday Cookies - 2012-12-18 19:38:15-05
Right now, I am going through a big career change, like many Americans! I was a technical editor for 24 years, but my full-time steady (and, let's be frank, boring) job disappeared in 2008. I starting picking up freelance technical writing jobs, and found that I had time left over from that to try my hand at creative writing and cooking. I shadowed a famous French chef for two months; I loved it. It was such a blast; every second was fast-paced and filled with exquisite food. It was exciting to be behind the scenes in his kitchen. And, yes, I got yelled at a lot, and burnt. Duck fat can be dangerous! But, that just helped me develop a thicker skin, literally. My first love is cooking; my second love is writing, so I am giving writing cookbooks a whirl. As you will see I am starting off small. My son, Andrew, has created all of my cookbook covers with the exception of one. A professional graphic artist created the Lowcountry Shrimp Boil cover. Andrew created all of the rest, and still continues to create them for me. I just have to ask on a day he is in a good mood. I am sharing family recipes, not complicated recipes created by a test kitchen and a big publishing house. I do the word processing and formatting. Friends have been testing the recipes and alerting me when there are typos. So this is a small family business. I have come along way from the first day when I uploaded Lowcountry Shrimp Boil with the HTML code exposed! I am from the Deep South and those Southern roots run through everything that I do. My cooking style reflects these roots which you will see in all of my eBooks. Thank you for stopping by and I hope you will return and get to know me as I carve out my little slice of the Indie pie.

  157. A Different Lifetime by Martin Radford - 2012-12-18 20:32:48-05
In 2006 I embarked upon a year of travelling in Eastern Europe. I have chronicled my experiences and encounters during the first four months of this adventure in my new book: ‘A Different Lifetime: stepping back in time in the former Yugoslavia.’ My book is all about my living and working for four months in Vojvodina – a small and largely unknown and unexplored province of what was once Yugoslavia. I use the phrase “stepping back in time” because I literally found myself being absorbed into a culture and lifestyle that might seem to belong more to the early part of the twentieth century rather than to the beginning of the twenty-first.

  166. Mind Hurdles: Preschool Games (Book 1) - 2012-12-19 00:55:36-05
With over forty years experience teaching children and with five grandchildren, I'm constantly amazed by what grabs and keeps their attention. I've noticed through the years that the activities that are most likely to accomplish this are the ones that require them to actively participate. For example, when they were young, they were much more interested in doing something they could pickup, move or point to as opposed to an activity where they had to simply sit still and watch. That's where the idea for Mind Hurdles came into being. The Mind Hurdles books are INTERACTIVE, and are thus more interesting and challenging.
