  13. The Sibyl Reborn - 2012-10-26 21:02:33-04
Imagine loving your lifestyle--hiking, dancing, practicing yoga, metaphysics and karate--only to fall asleep while driving, roll your pick-up into a gulch, and become paralyzed for life. Prior to your spinal cord injury (SCI), you enjoyed a twenty-year railroad career: first as a locomotive electrician and later as a traffic manager. Desperate to regain your life, you study Neuroscience to support research that seems offer hope. This takes you to the White House, to behind-the-scenes discussions of national biotech policy advisers, and [in a bizarre twist of fate] to glimpse a paradigm that's driving the world over an environmental cliff--a secret so vast and so obvious that few would believe it? Because I've lived this snapshot, and because Elie Wiesel was right when he said, "Some stories are true that never happened," I wrote "The Sibyl Reborn" to share the secret through fiction involving characters whose dramas entangle and crash.

  17. The Unlikely Event - 2012-10-26 23:11:44-04
Josh plays the part of tech geek during the day (and sometimes at night) at Amazon working on KDP and CreateSpace (he's eating his own dog food). In his paucity of spare time, he also enjoys playing music, writing books, and surfing. Josh's first book is titled DRO2WN. It is a work of Twilight-Zone fiction; a 'life passes before your eyes when you die' sort of tale. An ounce of fantasy, a modicum of philosophy, a pinch of romance, and with lots of character driven story-telling, DRO2WN asks tough questions about what what we might change in our lives if given the chance. The Unlikely Event is Josh's second book. It is a much different story than his first effort, firmly rooted in horror, inspired by the likes of Clive Barker and George Romero. Though the content of the plot is vastly different from his first story, a commitment to poetic prose and the creation of complex characters remains a focal point. Josh is currently working on a non-fiction book focused on the intersection of technology and art, as well a new science fiction novel. You can follow him on Twitter @JO2shuaWright

  19. Two Peasants and a President - 2012-10-26 23:51:25-04
A Chicago native, my first sampling of international travel was a piano master class at the Palace of Fine Arts in Mexico City, followed by studies in Barcelona and Costa Rica, all of which whetted my appetite for more. Reasoning that a ‘new frontier’ might be interesting, I journeyed to mainland China in January of 1982, at a time when few Westerners had traveled there. This was followed by a long career in importing from Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia and China. As anyone who’s crossed the Pacific knows, there’s plenty of ‘time to spare’. After reading hundreds of thrillers, I decided to write on of my own - Absolute Zero 1999. My newest - Two Peasants and a President 2012 is currently available on Kindle Books.
  20. The End by Dave Lacey - 2012-10-27 00:59:57-04
I was born in Liverpool in 1971. I was a slow learner in terms of reading, and didn't begin to read fiction of my own choice, until my Dad realised I was bored one day. He opened the door to my room, threw me a book (Wilbur Smith's Rage), and I was hooked. I had always invented my own little scenario's in my head, games I would play alone, game's that only I could see. My imagination has always been very vivid, and so when I discovered books, it was unleashed. I read everything Wilbur Smith wrote, and from them, began a fascination with Africa. Since then, I have drifted from one author to another, but of late have settled into Jo Nesbo and Conn Iggulden, both of whom are fantastic writers. I like to think that one day I might be included in the same bracket, who knows. Until then, I will continue to write, another late developing habit of mine. I started in January 2011, and by June 2011 had written my first novel, The End, which is available here on Amazon. It is part one of a trilogy, with part two following middle of 2013. I am also currently working on a separate series, aimed at the children's market. I am hopeful of finding an agent for this piece of work, so watch this space!

  27. Cake Making Made Easy – Instructions and 60 Cakes by Nancy N Wilson - 2012-10-27 02:05:37-04
All things beautiful are my passion. I enjoy anything that a masterful hand creates. Writing is one of those, cooking is another and the third is development of the human spirit. The first two captured my interest and imagination at a very young age, the third came much later. My first series, "Mama's Legacy Cookbooks," was a pleasure to create because it allowed me to tap into the two early interests and to publish cookbooks that my audience can use and enjoy time and time again. I began my love affair with cooking when I was very young. As soon as I could reach the counter top my mother gave me free range in the kitchen. I was allowed to mix and mix and mix, building my masterpieces. They were nothing more that wild combinations of flour, sugar, spices and water, but to me it was creating at its best. When I finished with each endeavor, we tossed it all and happily cleaned up the kitchen, looking forward to the next time. My creative spirit in the kitchen had taken root. My first adventure in writing came my senior year in high school when I decided to take a writing correspondence course, which was very forward-looking for the time. I experienced the first thrill of putting pen to paper, and all these years later it is still one of the most pleasurable activities in my life. The power of the human spirit and an understanding of the personal power we all possess came in my mid- to late forties when I found myself a divorced, single-mother of four children - two teenager daughters and two young boys. Suddenly, I was on my own and had to find a way to make it all work. The following years of deep personal introspection and self discovery were amazing and life changing; and now, I want to share my thoughts and experience with others through my writing. If I had my druthers, I would write all the time. In fact, that is pretty much what I do because I have reached a point in my life where it is now possible. In addition to the "Mama Legacy Cookbook Series" and "Cake Making Made Easy," I have another book, "Candy Making Made Easy" that provides detailed instructions about the candy-making process and 16 starter recipes to help apply what the reader has learned. I loved writing this book because it brought back so many wonderful memories of candy-making with my mom on those long summer nights when I was a young girl. My most recent book, "Attitude Adjustment - Make Your Whole Outlook Brand New," discusses the impact that attitude can have on the life you live. Is it one of constant doom and gloom, or one of happiness and joy. If it is the later, terrific - keep doing what you are doing! If it is the gloom and doom, negative attitude that pushes people away, the book gives you some options of things you can do to change. It is a short book, but full of great information. I have several other Kindle books written under pen names with a number of books in process. All my work is non-fiction. Even though I love fiction, that has never been my focus and there are others who do it so much better than I. My choice has always been and will continue to be to write about topics that interest and intrigue me and to share what I discover with my readers.

  30. Good Company: Making It, Keeping It & Being It - 2012-10-27 12:25:04-04
To quote David Freeman, Tim Miles took everything that made him weird as a kid and got people to pay him money for it as an adult. Part Dave Barry, part Dave Ramsey, part that Dave guy from the movie, umm, Dave, Tim Miles has used common sense, kindness and an unquenchable curiosity as tools to help a few hundred businesses – at least those willing to meet force with force and do the work – to be more successful more quickly. He runs an odd little communications company that helps owner-operated companies do more with less. Tim started creating advertising campaigns in 1995. In the ten years that followed, he won more than 80 awards for his ideas and execution of those ideas. Then, on 11/20/05, he decided entering awards shows was kind of a silly way to measure success. When their son was diagnosed with autism in November of 2005, Tim learned pretty much everything he thought he knew was wrong, and he’s made it his mission since to teach people to look at the world a little differently and separate the merely urgent from the truly important. Tim’s paying clients help to subsidize his volunteer and fundraising efforts with more than a dozen small not-for-profit organizations. In the last five years, he’s been fortunate to speak to more than 1000 not-for-profit organizations about how there’s never been a better time to do what it is they do, but there’s never been a more important time to be good at what it is they do. Tim’s consulted businesses in four countries and regularly speaks to companies, conferences and colleges about how to communicate more powerfully, how to escape the pit of mediocrity and how best to let the world see you as you really are … not as you think you should be.

  33. Part One: Flight of the Vessel - 2012-10-27 12:28:26-04
Born in Detroit in the late fifties, I lived first on the Eastside in a small flat. We moved every few years until we finally migrated all the way over to the Westside. While growing up in the Motor City, I loved to play games that relied on my imagination. I really enjoyed pretending to be a cowboy when I was very young. Westerns were big in those days, and I watched a lot of the Lone Ranger, Cheyenne, and Zoro. As I got a little older, I developed a fascination with space that bordered on obsession. The space race with the old Soviet Union was in full swing. I spent a lot of time pretending to be an astronaut. I enjoyed watching TV shows such as Lost in Space, Thunderbirds and Star Trek. All these shows help to grow my imagination. In school, I found I loved to write stories. I kept a notebook dedicated to just that. Writing was a way to free my imagination and let it run wild. I thought books were the greatest invention ever, and I still do. The first book that had a really deep effect on me was Flowers for Algernon. In school, I read the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings both of which sent my imagination into overdrive. At twenty, I joined the U.S. Navy, working on aircraft electronics. I spent six years serving with a bomber stationed at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station. I deployed aboard first, the USS Enterprise and then later on the USS Coral Sea aircraft carriers, cruising the Pacific to such ports as the Philippines, Korea, Singapore, Australia, and Hong Kong. There are not many things to do on an aircraft carrier, so I took up reading and would write very night for hours. After discharge, I enrolled at Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA, and studied English, Literature and several writing styles such as novel, short story, and playwriting. I joined the Naval Air Reserve to help pay for college and became a Navy Journalist, writing news and feature stories for a tiny military newspaper. I left Washington State for Columbia, SC to help my family in their small businesses. And then a few years later, I move to Virginia to work for a small newspaper in the Shenandoah Valley as the director of technology responsible for technology strategies. I decided to start a family, and we have two wonderful sons: 14 and 9. I did manage to write a little, but not as much as I would have liked. Recently, I earned my MBA at Averett University in Danville, VA, which has helped me to improve my writing habits.
  34. The Curse - 2012-10-27 12:29:30-04
Steven Gomez is a mystery writer and fictional detective. Often the cases he works take him to dark and desperate parts of the human soul. Luckily those dark places are not completely unsavory. Armed with a background in wine education and food appreciation, Steven Gomez stories combine the aesthetics of Julia Child with the sensibilities of Dashiell Hammett. You can track his comings-and-goings at... www.thenoirfactory.com
  35. 6-Pack of Horror Flash Fiction by Gil C. Schmidt - 2012-10-27 12:32:26-04
When I wasn't tearing around the neighborhood crashing into things (trees can be tricky) or acting like each baseball game (or any game, for that matter) was a "winner take all" epic, I was reading. Plenty of short stories, particularly those in "Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine" and "Boy's Life." Also comic books, tons and tons of comic books, along with science fiction by the truckloads. And anything else I could find, from "Newsweek" and "Reader's Digest" to "Highlights" and the encyclopedia. Like most avid readers, I wanted to read more than the story in front of me: I wanted to read MY story, the way I would write it. Started in the 7th grade and received praise, which was nice, but I knew I needed to do better. Kept writing, pages and pages that were stored in boxes, page that were taken out every few months and after re-reading to see if I'd made progress, stored again, out of sight. Started submitting and got rejected, but sold three stories on my first day of acceptance into professionalism and that kept me on track. Now I write daily, though most of it is not fiction. Still, it is writing, and when I get the chance--or more precisely, when I make the chance--to write fiction, I revert to the boy on the couch, lost in a story. I think that most writers truly love that feeling, of being "in" the story, lost but intrigued by what comes next. I'm currently working on a new fantasy series, the second book of The Phenomenologists and a dystopian serial novel. Hopefully most of that will see the light of day (or the backlight of a Kindle reader) in 2013.

My name is Julie Bechtel. I am an Author of science fiction and children's books.I have three wonderful children 1 daughter and two sons. I have been married to my best friend for twenty years. I started writing in 2004 after a very hard patch in my life. I enjoy writing, being with my family, and my pets. My biggest dream is to one day be able to buy a home for my husband and son. Nothing spectacular, just a place with land. A few years ago we were going to buy a home, unfortunately my husband got hurt at work so we lost the house. I swore to myself that I would work as hard as i had to, so we could afford a place of our own. God will provide in the end. I know that. The one thing that bothers me is how hard it is to sell a book without reviews.
