Judge Leonia J. Lloyd earned a bachelor’s degree in education and a law degree from Wayne State University. She taught at Cass Technical High School and was a partner in the Lloyd & Lloyd law firm. She was elected to the 36th District Court and served twenty fours years on the bench. The last fourteen years on the bench she was the presiding Drug and Veteran’s Treatment Court Judge. She had over 1000 graduates from her Treatment court programs. In compliance with her commitment to the community, in 2001, in memory of her sister, Judge Lloyd endowed a scholarship foundation at Wayne Law to assist law students pursuing a law degree. Many of the past recipients of the scholarships came to her courtroom after they graduated and passed the bar to thank her for the monetary assistance they were given through her scholarship fund.
In 2021, Judge Lloyd was selected as a winner and was awarded the Book Excellence Award for “Your Honor, Your Honor”.
