I grew up as a Navy brat landing in Albuquerque, NM, in 1971 as a nine-year-old kid. My father and I joined Boy Scouts Troop 280 when I was 12 years old. Boy Scouts was my first experience with camping, and I loved every minute of it. We went car camping, backpacking, and trekking afloat in canoes and kayaks.
Since then, I have never looked back. My wife, two children, and I have gone camping many times. When my son was of age, he and I joined Boy Scouts Troop 395. He reached the rank of Eagle Scout. I eventually became Scoutmaster for a couple of years after attending Woodbadge Leadership training. We had a blast camping together through the years.
Some of my best memories come from camping experiences. Being 58 years old, I still love to camp. I relish my time camping with my wife and following her around while she fishes. I also get outdoors with friends whenever I can. Soon we’ll take my daughter and grandson with us. We’re constantly experiencing new camping spots as long as the water is available to fish in. We try new recipes and still learn lessons every time we camp.
I have slept in a tent in my time camping, survived in the wilderness, now called bushcraft, to camping in a Pop-Up camper with my wife.
I now enjoy my time with my wife, children, and dog. When I am not camping or writing, I enjoy playing many different games—playing board games in the evenings with my wife and daughter, usually Settlers of Catan or other Catan games. Every few weeks, I play Dungeons and Dragons with my son, brother, and friends, alternating Dungeon Master duties with my brother. About every two months, the extended family gets together for family game day. We make delicious food and play cards enjoying each other’s company and catch up with our busy lives.
When I can, I do handyman or maintenance work. I have a knack for fixing things and upgrading outdated fixtures and houses. In the future, I will do more camping, spend more time with family, and write more books.
I am looking forward to passing my camping skills on to my grandson.

Mr. Linder was an avid Cardinals baseball fan growing up in his hometown of St. Louis. Still, after moving to St. Petersburg, he secured a favorite seat at Tampa Bay Rays baseball games. He began playing soccer as a 10-year-old and then continued playing, coaching, and officiating at every level except the pros.
He was a collegiate athlete while a student at Blackburn College, where Doug met his future bride, Diane. She currently teaches at Our Savior Lutheran School. Doug and Diane have three children, all living in the Tampa Bay area, and the Linders now have six grandchildren.
