Hello, my name is Toy DeAnn. I was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and raised there for a short period of time. I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in 1995, and then I moved to California. When I first moved to California my diagnosis was changed to MCTD (mixed connective tissue disease). I lived in Southern California until 2006 and then I moved to Dayton, Ohio to be with family. As time went by I decided that I missed California so I moved back in May 2013 and this is where I currently reside. Since my first diagnosis, I have discovered that I have the factor V Leiden mutation, pulmonary embolism, ITP (idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura), anemia, arthritis and fibromyalgia.

I started expressing my thoughts in a journal when I younger. As I grew older I decided to turn my thoughts and feelings into poetry. This is one example of how I vent and how I deal with my illness. Since I can’t fix the issue, I write about it. Writing has become an outlet for me. Although lupus is a daily struggle, I do try to stay happy, stay positive and cope the best way I can. The reason I write is to try and encourage others that nothing can stop you from doing what you truly want to do. And also, to spread Awareness to as many people as possible who don’t understand what others like myself deal with on a daily basis.
