Phineas Varga and the Revenants of Windsor

About Phineas Varga and the Revenants of Windsor

“A brilliant and riveting vampire novel . . . showcases a complete mastery of this dark fantasy genre.” –Midwest Book Review
In 1014 AD, Nieve, a young Irish woman, nurses wounded Fintan, a mysterious foreigner fighting for the Irish at the Battle of Clontarf. From this point on, their fates are intertwined as they attempt to navigate secrets, supernatural beings, a rival for Nieve’s affection . . . in addition to their own conflicted feelings for one another.

Over five-hundred years later, in 1563, the Black Death descends on the kingdom of Queen Elizabeth I. She welcomes into her court at Windsor Castle, a man, Phineas Varga, who offers protection. However, the young queen soon finds that his strategy includes the use of gargoyles . . . for she and her kingdom are to be defended against something far worse than the plague. England and all mankind are at the mercy of the revenant should those most ancient and evil have their way.

Phineas, too, has his secrets, secrets that shaped who he is and who he will become. In his quest to rid Europe of the foul revenant, he is joined by a young, eager apprentice, a gargoyle warrior, a female assassin of a strange guild, and others who seek to find the source of the revenant outbreak. It is only when mysteries are revealed, and tragedy occurs that the reader discovers why five-hundred years is but a short time for some.

Today, the revenant is known by its most popular name . . . that of . . . vampire.

When We Were Kings (The Wolf of Oberhame Book 1) by Auryn Hadley

When We Were Kings (The Wolf of Oberhame Book 1) by Auryn Hadley

⭐SALE!⭐ $0.99 3/12-318 ONLY!

ON THE FIRST DAY SHE MET HER MATCH. THEN SHE KILLED 16 MEN.

Tossed into the gladiator arena, the delicate girl in the fancy pink dress should have been the first to die. Leyli had other plans. Surviving was at the top of her list. Revenge was a close second.

Having grown up behind the sheltered walls of the Oberhame Palace, she knew what the crowd wanted. Norihame had built their culture from the scraps of their neighbors. Gladiators were just one part. Evidently, political coups were another, and she’d just become a pawn in the games of men. But why was she still alive? They’d killed her brother, the heir to the throne. Had they gotten to her father? Was the king dead?

In the cell beside her, the Lion of Lenlochlien was impressed. The first day, they all cried. Men, women, it didn’t matter. But this one was different. Her tears didn’t slow her down, they just made her stronger, and when he looked in her eyes, he saw it. Her desperation was feral. It meant she wouldn’t hesitate to do what she had to. She might be cornered, but that bitch was the kind that would bite.

When he offered advice, she took it. When he told her how to be better, she tried. When she kept coming back after each round, he dared to hope that she’d survive. He had no idea that he was about to become her best weapon. Leyli didn’t just want to live through the games, she wanted to protect her father’s throne, but to do that, she had to become someone else. She couldn’t be the Princess of Norihame. The Lion had to make her a Wolf.

Chained side by side, he’ll show her how to be a killer. She’ll give him a reason to keep fighting. Together, they’ll learn that it takes a friend to survive.

Dr. Increase by Trana Mathews

Dr. Increase by Trana Mathews

These early Americans were fundamental to the expansion of the United States after the Revolutionary War. Based upon a diary transcript and known facts, Dr. Increase is the sequel to The Mathews Family and the second novel in the Mathews Family Saga.

When Increase finished his medical apprenticeship, two physicians had already established practices in New Braintree, Massachusetts. Increase has always dreamt of owning land but now can’t save money for a future purchase. He wants to marry but doesn’t have the means to support a family. Some of his relatives have settled in the Ohio frontier, so he decides to travel to the Northwest Territory in 1798 to visit them and to view its opportunities.

Dr. Increase Mathews recorded his thoughts in a journal, noting mileage and expenses along with people, places, and complications encountered. It was not an easy trip. Traveling hundreds of miles by horseback took weeks to accomplish, and a companion’s mare is injured traversing a difficult mountain trail. This 18th century man’s actual words provide a remarkable insight on this period of early American history.

Author Bio:
Trana Mathews is my pen name. There is already an author named Diane Hildebrandt who writes technical reference books, so I decided to use my mother’s family surname. Besides, I think Mathews is easier to spell than Hildebrandt. While I was searching for an “old-fashioned” first name to go with the Mathews surname, a very dear friend suggested, then gave me permission to use her grandmother’s name.

I lived most of my life in Northwest Indiana. I worked at a local water company for over a decade before I headed into Chicago where I worked at several public accounting firms. At age 50, I obtained a B.S. in Computer Information Systems from Indiana University Northwest. My two adult children were born while I lived in Northwest Indiana.

After I retired, I moved to beautiful southeastern Arizona and began writing about my third great-grandfather, because his life had always fascinated me. My original plan was to start with his diary of a journey from Massachusetts to Ohio in 1798. Further research led to my discovery of actual letters written between family members which are contained within Marietta College’s Legacy Library. My focus shifted to his entire family.

Because of my research of Massachusetts birth, marriage, and death records, I found many genealogy sites had misinformation, so I became a WikiTree genealogist. This helped me organize where I’ve found my information!

I’m a confirmed “bookaholic”. Yes, I do know the proper term is bibliophile. But, it seems to me, words with the -phile suffix have a sinister connotation. I’m a firm believer in promoting literacy and am an active member of Friends of the Huachuca City Library.

I’m a member of several writing groups and am involved with my community. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, crafting, and playing cards. While cribbage is my favorite game, dirty board (also known as pegs & jokers) is a close second.

My novels are 18th century historical fiction based upon known facts about my ancestors. Dr. Increase is the second novel in this family saga trilogy.

Keeping Shiloh

Ashleigh Meyer is a fiction author from southwestern Virginia. She has been writing both professionally and creatively for over a decade. A technical writer by day (which sounds as dull as it is) and a novelist by night, she enjoys reading Appalachian fiction, classic poetry and books on gardening. She is really not sure how she became the author of a YA/NA supernatural thriller, but here we are. She loves gardening (hence the books), playing the banjo (badly) and hanging out with her high school sweetheart/husband and foster kiddos in their very old farmhouse. In the summer, she runs a river tubing and stand up paddle boarding company with the aforementioned husband, and her best friend.

Ashes and Blood

About Ashes and Blood

I’ll start at the beginning. Long ago, before roads, before we built structures, before medicine was discovered, before the government was created, before man gained any knowledge, there were The Five. Independent from each other, The Five had a mutual respect for one another. They knew their roles in the world and their duty. They were gods…
An adventure begins when an otherworldly tree captures the attention of Megan and her friends. The environment morphs around them, transferring them to an exotic planet. Stuck in a rural town still maimed by the plague, a chance encounter with a familiar face gives Megan and her friends some security during their adjustment period.
While settling into new, promising lives, they are attacked and stalked by planet Dalya’s humanoid inhabitants, who focus on Megan. One dark night, after an epic, magical attack, the Fae King’s knight is sent to fetch Megan. When she wakes up a prisoner, she learns that there is much more to this strange world, and it is oddly more like her own than she ever would have expected.

Author Bio:
EARLY LIFE

I was born in Ventura, California in 1966 and moved to Northern California shortly thereafter. The first 12 years of my life were spent in a fairly rural area of the upper Napa Valley. I rode horses, had chickens and goats, and pretty much lived in the woods that surrounded our home. When I was 12, my family moved to Napa proper where I attended a private school through 10th grade. I attended Napa High School my junior and senior year where I played football before joining the Marine Corps in 1986.

CAREER

Once I graduated boot camp, I was assigned to the third battalion first Marines where I almost immediately deployed on a Westpac. My job at the time was an anti-tank gunner or 0351 for you Jarheads out there. When I returned to the States, I transferred to STA (Surveillance Target Acquisition) Platoon. I deployed one more time before my separation from active duty.

After the Marine Corps, I returned to Napa where I put myself through a basic police academy while washing cars after school and on the weekends in order to survive. Law enforcement jobs were scarce back in the early 1990s so I went to work for a small, yet extremely violent, town called East Palo Alto (EPA). I worked in EPA for a little under three years before making lateral move to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

While at the Sheriff’s Office, I worked in a Street Crimes Suppression Team, SWAT, Narcotics, and Homicide. I promoted to Sergeant and worked several other positions in that rank until being promoted to Lieutenant. As a Sheriff’s Lieutenant, I worked my final two years in law enforcement as a team Lieutenant in the jails.

WRITING

My interest in writing reared its head in 1994 while I was working the graveyard shift in the Maguire Correctional Facility shortly after being hired by the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office. I taught myself to write screen plays during that time and wrote several feature lengths scripts. I never pursued the sale of any my screenplays and ultimately decided to write a novel after realizing how many constraints are placed on screenplays. As I neared the end of my career in law enforcement, I began writing my first book that ended up having several names before finally turning into “A World Slowed.”

FAMILY

While working in Homicide, I met my wonderful wife who was working for the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office at the time. My wife and I have three children—each of them so special, captivating, funny, and hard working. My family is my legacy. In my spare time, I enjoy watching movies (or at least the preview to movies, which drives my wife crazy) and playing hockey. There’s nothing like a hockey-loving-Napa-boy to confuse traditional hockey players.

About Ben Stempton’s Boy by Ron Yates

Description of Ben Stempton’s Boy, a novel by Ron Yates

The year is 1972, and Randy Walls is fresh out of the foster care system. Haunted by memories of sexual abuse, he hitchhikes from Pittsburgh to rural Georgia in search of a blood relation. His quest for family is fulfilled in unexpected ways after he makes a deal with Ben Stempton, a grizzled old pulp-wooder. Through events that follow, Randy experiences culture shock, hard labor, funerals, friendship, extramarital sex, and jealousy.
When old man Stempton dies in a gruesome accident, Randy shoulders the burden of the man’s business for the sake of his wife and daughter. Episodes unfold, and Randy finds himself holding a baby. Little Benji’s mother is Ben Stempton’s daughter, Stacy. Unfortunately, she is married to Randy’s rival, an abusive redneck named Ty. More tragedy follows, resulting in Stacy’s emotional breakdown.
By this time Randy has grown close to his work partner Buster, a light-skinned black youth of uncertain parentage who anchors and guides him. These two plus Benji form an unlikely trio, struggling against vines from the past and present that are as constricting as kudzu—twisted stalks sprouting from society’s soil, Ben Stempton’s grave, and their own personal histories. Author Bio:
Ron Yates has been learning to write for most of his life. He produced good essays in high school, but his adolescent energies were largely devoted to drag racing, drinking beer, and trying to stay out of trouble.

Although encouraged by his English teachers to pursue higher education, Yates, after graduating high school in lackluster fashion, spent time languishing in factory jobs. An aching back, the remembered encouragement of former teachers, and the urgings of caring friends prompted him to explore other options.

His enduring love of reading and nascent knack for writing guided him to a degree in English and a career teaching high school. He went on to earn an MA in English from the University of West Georgia and, years later, an MFA in creative writing from Queens University of Charlotte.

Yates lives near Mt. Cheaha, on the shore of beautiful Lake Wedowee in Alabama. He has published stories in a variety of journals including Wilderness House Literary Review, Hemingway Shorts, KYSO Flash, Still: the Journal, The Writing Disorder, The Oddville Press, and Prime Number Magazine.

Yates’s fiction collection, Make It Right: A Novella and Eight Stories, was published by Ardent Writer Press in April of 2019. A novel, Ben Stempton’s Boy, was published later that year by Unsolicited Press. Both books are available through major online retailers, the publishers’ websites and ronyates.net

Ron Yates has a son and daughter and is married to his sweetheart, Carol Yates.

Winter’s Sun: In The Midst of Anxiety God Stepped In by Odna Chukkas

About Winter’s Sun: In The Midst of Anxiety God Stepped In by Odna Chukkas

In 2019, I experienced anxiety so great and prolonged that I began to feel heart palpitations. I was constantly in fear of the unknown. I was so scared that I could neither eat nor sleep. And then God stepped in.
I was instructed to read Psalms from the beginning. I obeyed. Day by day, I began to get more confident, hopeful, have more faith and clarity.
The voice of the Lord was so strong that I began to write and the first words that came out was a poem. Since that day I have written 12 poems.
God wanted me to see that my life was as fruitful and fragrant as the earth.
He was able to shine His light, to offer illumination, truth, and clarity as my Winter’s Sun. My heart of sadness instantly turned to one of hope and praise. I felt deeply loved and cherished.
The name Winter’s Sun means God is the light that shines in the darkness.
This is my story and testimony.

In this book, you will learn how to:
Overcome anxiety with God
Manifest peace in your life
Replace depression with hope
Inhabit praise naturally
Stop feeling alone and unloved
Change your life from negative to positive
How to cheer up a friend

The Microscope. A collection of snapshots immortalized with a pen

About The Microscope. A collection of snapshots immortalized with a pen

“Dedicated to those who believe in art, in real freedom of expression, in originality and in uniqueness.”

After the appearance of her novel, Meeting Laura, and during the writing of the sequel, Anna “Annina” Lorenzi surprises us, again, with a ‘lateral’ project completely different from her previous publications. It’s an outside of the box collection, without rules. A collection of words and images, of emotions, of Life that someone has even called “poetry”…

“Within these pages, you’ll find everything and it’s exact opposite. You’ll find me. Better yet, though, you’ll find what you yourselves want to find. Take these ‘snapshots’ as if they were pictures hung on empty walls in an art exhibit (if we can talk of ‘art’). Observe them, read them, immerse yourselves in them without thinking. Empty your minds, use your hearts… Make them your own, without hesitation.” – A19.

Anna “Annina” Lorenzi born in Milan on a rainy Monday morning, the 26th of October, 1981. She went to – or, better yet, “went to” – two years of classical studies high school, followed by four years of artistic studies high school; without, in any event, being able to resist dedicating herself to her passions. Passions such as writing, music, photography, her beloved dogs, engines, travelling and nature. Talking about work, she really does “a little bit of everything,” so much so that, together with some friends, she founded a company in Texas that deals with classic cars.

Her lengthy experiences as a writer include texts, poems, short and long stories, fairy tales, articles, selections in literary competitions, and publications in anthologies, as well as in magazines and Italian blogs.

Currently, she shares her creative writing accompanied by photographs and images on her personal site, “Diciannove – Prima di nascere ero sull’astronave che aspettavo di scendere” (annina19.com – “Nineteen – Before I was born I was on a space ship waiting to come down”), now partially available also in English, translated by Starleen K. Meyer.

Literary Work & Publications:

On 19 May 2020, “Incontrando Laura. Un romanzo liberamente e in parte ispirato alla vita di…” was released, accompanied by its English edition “Meeting Laura. A novel loosely and partially inspired by the life of…” professionally translated by Starleen K. Meyer. They are independent self-publications, both available in paperback and Kindle eBook versions, in all Amazon stores. The two respective audio books are expected for 2021.

In August 2020, Anna began working on the sequel of “Meeting Laura” and on a completely different side project, which she decided to prioritize:
