How to Nudge Your Cub Into a Top 100 College Today, Including the Ivy League by JK Roark,MD

How to Nudge Your Cub Into a Top 100 College Today, Including the Ivy League by JK Roark,MD

“…a practical guide on how to balance the pressures of academic excellence with encouragement and compassion.”
– Karl J Mueller, Superintendent, Coronado Unified School District
Advice to get your child into a prestigious college is everywhere but often counterproductive. One popular strategy is the high-pressured approach of the Tiger Mother, which turns kids into unhappy study machines. Parents hunger for a healthier alternative, and now there is one.
In Lion Dad, Dr. Roark outlines a parenting method in direct contrast to the Tiger Mother, one intended to preserve personality and help the child’s spirit flourish.
This well referenced volume is a comprehensive guide for parents of children of any age and college applicants. The book brims with need-to-know admissions statistics. How many students are chosen for academic ability vs. for athletics, legacy or potential financial contribution? What percentage of applicants make it? How are they chosen? Dr. Roark takes into account the current climate at Ivy Leagues schools to guide parents through each essential step to admissions. Because the current pandemic has changed education forever, his invaluable forecasts explain its impact on all levels of education.
With illustrations, tables, references, and resources, you’ll examine the importance of extracurricular activities, tutors, test taking, how to approach admission applications, the successful essay and much more. It’s information critical to college acceptance. But above all, parents and students find the Lion Dad approach is the way to achieve academic goals as a team, one that honors a student’s personality and doesn’t override it.
“… a fascinating commentary on modern day parenting, college admissions, and much more. It also integrates a functional medicine component. I strongly endorse the author since he is a long term colleague as well as the book for all parents and children.
-Robert M Goldman M.D., PhD, D.O. FAASP, World Chairman-International Medical Commission

Author Bio:
BOYD TAYLOR lives in Austin, Texas with his wife and their Havanese dog Toby. Necessities is the fourth novel in the Donnie Ray Cuinn series. In a former life, Boyd was a lawyer and a corporate officer. A native of Temple, Texas, he graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. in government and an LL.B. from the law school. Boyd’s first novel “Hero” was prescient in its story about fake news. His second novel, “The Antelope Play,” dealt with drug trafficking in the Texas Panhandle, an unfortunately accurate forecast. The third, “The Monkey House,” involved commercial development of a large green space in the center of Austin, all too familiar to Austin residents. Whether his upcoming novel “Necessities” predicts future events with the accuracy of the earlier books remains to be seen.

Fantasy and science fiction have always been my favorites. Especially those from the era of dime novels and genre magazines, the time when both were still deemed fringe. Those stories spark the imagination and bring a reader to worlds and concepts beyond his reality. Though I have to admit, reality is fast catching up with science fiction.

Author Bio:
Elizabeth Devlin refuses to admit how long ago she decided to write novels, but it was a LONG time ago. She took several detours along the way, serving at US embassies around the world, earning a D.Phil. at Oxford, teaching senior military officers at the Naval War College in Newport, RI, and building her dream house with a view of the water (she needed a place to write, didn't she?).

In her contemporary novel, Home Waters, Elizabeth shares her love of the ocean, family, suspense, and a chance at a happy ever after. She hopes to use her love of baseball in a book one day soon. When she isn’t writing or reading JD Robb books (yet again), she is active in several writing groups and runs a charitable non-profit foundation.
