De is a native Arkansan. She grew up in the inner city and spent summer vacations and holidays on her grandparent’s farm in west central Arkansas. After serving in the military, attending university, traveling and living in many countries in Asia and Europe (and states in the U.S.), she returned to her home state.

Observing people and finding humor in the normal and abnormal has always come easy for her. Over the years friends have told her she should become a stand-up comedian. Having grown up in predominantly black neighborhoods, her family poor with Native American ancestry, and serving in the military left a lasting impression on her. At times the different sides of her experience will make an appearance, much to the confusion of others.

She describes herself as a white woman with an Indian “center” who has “black moments” like those detailed in her first book “Born a Poor, Black, Indian, White Girl”. Her writing mixes a variety of perspectives, experiences, knowledge, humor and sarcasm into what could be best described as “Book Gumbo”.

De has always loved to read. In the past she had bookshelves full of books with three or four books waiting to be read at any given time. Her writing started with diaries then progressed to the more grown up versions called journals. She’s even written some poetry and prose (part of which can be found at the end of the chapters of her first book).

De earned a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Weber State University in Utah. She used her education and work experience to become a trainer and case manager for veteran programs for various nonprofit, city, state and federal government sectors.

She has been a writer, creator, public speaker and professional trainer for over 20 years. She has the unique ability to blend spirit, humor, simplicity and realism into her writing and classes.

I am a marketing research professional. I have worked in small and large companies in the U.S. My interests include sports, music, and video games. I am a Chicago professional sports fan and follow my college Alma Maters (Florida and Illinois).

I am a frequent concert goer and have attended over 400 shows. I typically attend 2-3 major festivals per year. Additionally, I enjoy playing drums in my free time, and I attempt to play bass and guitar on occasion. I’ll sing if I’ve had enough adult beverages.
