The Woodsman by Blake North

About The Woodsman by Blake North

I moved up into the mountains to put my past behind me, to find some peace.

This mountain is my sanctuary. Until some woman shows up during a snowstorm with a suitcase, insisting to rent my cabin for the week.
She got scammed. Not my problem. She’s got curves in all the right places, but I send her away. The next thing I know, she’s
crashed her car in the blizzard and I’m carrying her to my cabin.
I rescued her and now we’re snowed in together. It’s all I can do to keep my hands off her. But I know she wants me, too.
Sparks fly, and there’s no turning back. We’re all alone up in the mountains, snowed in and having the hottest fling in history.
There’s only one problem: I don’t want to let her go.
Make that two problems: I can’t let her find out my dark secret.

If I tell her the truth, she’ll run away, and I’ll never see her again. If I keep the secret, I lose the girl of my dreams.

The Price of Passion (Sweet Pea III) by Mary Elizabeth Fricke

About The Price of Passion (Sweet Pea III) by Mary Elizabeth Fricke

Sweet Pea III: The Price of Passion (1984-1990)

Time has come and gone, years pass, Johnie’s children are growing and she has learned to accept her parents’ untimely death. Her friendship with Marsha continues to thrive. By the time ‘the 70’s’ become ‘the 80’s’, Johnie has also built an enduring relationship with her mother-in-law, Amie. Her marriage to Phil is a sham. Although they tried, they were never able to rekindle the trust they once shared. All those years, a secret part of Johnie’s soul survives nurturing the memory of Jake. Fate strikes several more dramatic blows and once again, everything changes.

Description of the Sweet Pea Trilogy: To one man she gave her virginity; to another she gave her heart. One, she would mourn. With the other, she would share life’s triumph and turmoil. With both, she would endure times of love, and passion and complete happiness as well as times of despair, confusion, and sorrow. One day at a time—each day, building unforgettable memories.
Sweet Pea spans from the late 1960’s into 2009. Set in rural Missouri, it is a story for those who remember the profound cultural changes and historical events that took place in the later part of the 20th Century. It is is a nostalgic story of growing up; of forging lifelong friendships and loyalty within family that supports every life event, good or bad. It is a story of love that binds a man and a woman despite all odds. It is also a story of obsessive hatred and how such hatred destroys not only the innocent, but those who hate.

Author Bio:
Kirk Jockell is the author of the three-part series, “Tales from Stool 17; The Nigel Logan Stories.” Volume one is subtitled “Finding Port St. Joe.” The second volume is subtitled “Trouble in Tate’s Hell.” The final book in the series is subtitled “Dark Days of Judgement.” He is currently working on a prequel that looks into the life of a young Nigel Logan and the development of a man that one should never make cross. He loves the project and grows more excited each day as he pounds out each word.

As for sailing, he races, cruises, and day sails for simple pleasure. His real interest is single-handed sailing. While he enjoys the camaraderie and crew work of sailing with others, he especially loves the idea of “One Man … One Boat.” He says, “When it’s just you and the boat, it just doesn’t get any better than that.”
He hails from the small, coastal town of Port St. Joe, Florida (where his heart and mind remain), but platoons his time up around Georgia’s Lake Lanier where he commutes to Atlanta everyday for what remains of his work with a regular job–not sexy enough to mention here.

He is married to his lovely wife of 30+ years, Joy. They live with their black cat, Stormy, and a bottle of Jim Beam.

Her Sunflower Man by Ann Streetman

About Her Sunflower Man by Ann Streetman

The bell at the delivery door buzzed again. Susan looked up from her computer screen and yelled, “Is anybody going to get that?”
She waited for help to come. “Where is everybody?” She rose from her desk and walked through an open doorway into the storage room. Walking through a maze of boxes and bins, she reached the door and unlocked it. She pushed open the heavy door to find a handsome man standing with a box on his broad right shoulder. He shifted the box so he could touch his cap. “Good afternoon, Mademoiselle. Where do you want the box?”
Puzzling over the French word spoken in a decidedly Midwestern accent, she pointed behind her to the left. “Over there, please.”
She watched as he placed the box on the floor and walked toward her. “Sign here, please, Mademoiselle.”
Susan smiled at him. “Of course.” After she signed she said, “Please forgive me for being nosey, but I am very curious about your calling me ‘Mademoiselle’ since your accent tells me you’re not French.”
He broke into a smile. “But, Mademoiselle, my accent does not tell you the whole story. I am part French. I moved with my parents from France to Iowa when I was only 6 years old. My father is part American and part French. My mother is thoroughly French. She still frets about how quickly my French accent melted away after I started the first grade in Rone, Iowa.”
The man held her eyes for a moment.
“Merci, Mademoiselle. This is my first day on this route. Perhaps I will see you again.”

Their story unfolds across the Midwest, Texas, and Normandy, France. If you like sweet romance with twists and turns, this book is for you.

Revenge of the Trailer Dogs: Life in America’s New Middle Class

About Revenge of the Trailer Dogs: Life in America’s New Middle Class

Book two of the continuing hilarious and often bittersweet real-life saga of Ellen Garrison and her husband as they adjust to life in a 29 foot travel trailer with two spoiled, incorrigible small dogs. Self-proclaimed liberals, Ellen and her “old man” struggle to fit in with their fellow (mostly right-wing) “Trailer Dogs,” as they recover from devastating personal and financial losses.

Often profane, often caustic, frequently satirical, Revenge of the Trailer Dogs, takes up where Garrison’s first book left off, at “The Resort,” a trailer park populated by wackos, racists, Evangelicals, Hippies, NRA enthusiasts, transsexuals, homosexuals, Lesbians, each with their own views and prejudices. Unexpected events and new authoritarian management at The Resort leave Ellen and her “old man” pining for friendlier pastures in the Pacific Northwest.

Author Bio:
I’m Ellen Garrison, a life-long dog lover and enthusiastic supporter of animal rescue groups. I currently live with my husband and two dog kids in a 36-foot travel trailer in the Pacific Northwest. My first book, Trailer Dogs, is about starting over in a society formerly known as the “American Middle Class.” Revenge of the Trailer Dogs follows me and my “old man” as we and our new friends and neighbors react to a change in governance at the trailer park – a change that leads us to new horizons.

I began writing Trailer Dogs after one of the worst years of my entire married life. It was cathartic, in that it allowed me (uncensored) to express grief and disappointments in the only way I knew how – by satirizing myself and the calamities that had almost destroyed me.

In 2013, the government shutdown sent our previously thriving business into a tailspin, taking years of hard work, and our life savings, along with it. Two of our three much-loved dogs died within a month of each other. My best friend, only in her mid-fifties, passed away after a long, painful illness. If that weren’t enough, my husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer that October. His surgery was scheduled on Christmas Eve

My reaction to the above events was less than heroic. I became a total psychological wreck. My normally over-the-top sense of humor vanished overnight. I couldn’t eat, couldn’t sleep, couldn’t concentrate on anything except how miserable my life had become. My problems, my heartbreaks, my financial losses were front and center, and nobody else’s mattered.

Then one day, while mindlessly scanning a dog rescue website, I happened upon Sully. Sully was a sorry looking little stray. He was emaciated, with a dull, patchy coat and an underbite that resulted in a permanent goofy half grin. He’d been attacked and seriously injured by a larger dog. Two enormous ears stood up at the sides of his head, and a few scraggly hairs sprang from the top knot in between.

Long story short, we adopted Sully. Caring for him and rehabilitating him helped me to rehabilitate myself. I slowly regained my sense of humor, my interest in life, and most importantly, the ability to care about something other than myself. Instead of bemoaning past losses, I began to focus again on the future – a future that was going to be totally different than my husband and I had ever envisioned. It was a terrifying, yet strangely liberating prospect.

We were about to become Trailer Dogs.

Sentinel Code by Dan Van Werkhoven

About Sentinel Code by Dan Van Werkhoven

The dragons killed her sister, so she devoted her life to killing them.

In a world daily invaded by earthquakingly huge dragons, Klara Koskova has a simple dream: take up the mantle of Sentinel and kick some serious dragon butt. However, when a dragon kills her sister, that dream turns into a desperate vendetta. Klara vows to stop at nothing to avenge her…

Mikhail Koskov is on the run. His mother has vanished with a dangerous secret, and his employers—the tyrannical Alchemist Guild—have turned their gaze to him. Mikhail must unearth the truth before the Guild finds him. Unfortunately, the only man with answers is in the most secure Sentinel fort in the country. The only way in is to be a Sentinel… but that’s nothing a few forged documents won’t fix.

While Klara and Mikhail fight to survive the Sentinels’ brutal training program, the Alchemists search for an excuse to declare war on the Sentinels. If Klara helps her fugitive brother, she’ll give the Guild the justification they seek.

Klara must choose between the future of her nation, avenging her sister, or saving Mikhail.

And she can only pick one…

Author Bio:
Since Dan Van Werkhoven could pronounce “Lego” he’s been creating worlds and stories. Often times, those stories were about how awesome his Lego minifig was compared to his younger brother’s, but they were nevertheless stories.

As soon as Dan could read, he was absorbing every fantasy book he could get his hands on, with favourites such as Narnia and The Hobbit. By his teen years, he was tackling Frank Herbert, Raymond E. Feist, Peter F. Hamilton, and more. Now he loves nothing more than to sink into a Brandon Sanderson epic and lose himself for weeks.

At 16, Dan took that love of fantastical stories to a whole new level… he entered NaNoWriMo. Over the next few years, he wrote a bunch of novels (all terrible) and short stories (slightly less terrible). Writing fell by the wayside until 2010 when he began work on the Eidolon Universe with Ancel Haegler. Since then, the two have been steadily building a universe filled with fantastical worlds.
