Stick with It: A Scientifically Proven Process for Changing Your Life-for Good Kindle Edition by Sean D. Young
About Stick with It: A Scientifically Proven Process for Changing Your Life-for Good Kindle Edition by Sean D. Young
An award-winning psychologist and director of the UCLA Center for Digital Behavior shows everyone how to make real, lasting change in their lives in this exciting work of popular psychology that goes beyond The Power of Habit with science and practical strategies that can alter their problem behaviors—forever.
Whether it’s absent-minded mistakes at work, a weakness for junk food, a smart phone addiction, or a lack of exercise, everyone has some bad habit or behavior that they’d like to change. But wanting to change and actually doing it—and sticking with it—are two very different things.
Dr. Sean Young, an authoritative new voice in the field of behavioral science, knows a great deal about our habits—how we make them and how we can break them. Stick with It is his fascinating look at the science of behavior, filled with crucial knowledge and practical advice to help everyone successfully alter their actions and improve their lives.
As Dr. Young explains, you don’t change behavior by changing the person, you do it by changing the process. Drawing on his own scientific research and that of other leading experts in the field, he explains why change can be difficult and identifies the crucial forces that combine to make transformation permanent, from the right way to create new habits to how to harness emotional meaning to motivate change. He also helps us understand how the mind often interferes with creating lasting change and how we can outsmart it, including using “neurohacks” to shortcut the brain’s counterproductive instincts. In addition he provides a powerful corrective to the decades old science of habits, offering a next generation discussion of how habits can change behavior with the right approach.
Packed with pragmatic exercises and stories of real people who have used them successfully, Stick with It shows that it is possible to control spending, stick to a diet, become more social, exercise regularly, stop compulsively checking e-mail, and overcome problem behaviors—forever.

Rik Stone’s working life began in shipyards before he moved on to become a merchant seaman and, for reasons he won’t share here, on more than one occasion found himself stranded in the middle of nowhere. Later on, he worked in quarries and met some wonderfully rich and diverse characters. But then life tamed, maybe a little too much, when he moved into the IT industry.
A surprise came when he became interested in studying and worked through to gaining a BSc. degree in Mathematics and Computing. But it was his love of reading fiction gave him the ambition to write it and his broad experience of life and the confidence of education enabled him to do it.

Some People Deserve To Die
About Some People Deserve To Die
On April 20, 2017, Ledell Lee, an African-American man in Arkansas, was executed for the 1993 murder of his neighbor, Debra Reesed despite maintaining his innocence until the last moment.
On Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at 6 pm Marcellus Williams should, according to the law, have drawn his last breath as a cocktail of lethal chemicals entered his body and terminated his life.
Sentenced to death for the 1988 murder of Ms. Lisha Gayle during a robbery at her home, Missouri State Governor, Eric Geitens, delayed Williams’s execution to enable consideration of new DNA evidence.
Williams, in addition to the murder conviction, is also serving consecutive terms of life in prison for robbery and 30 years each for burglary and weapons crimes.
On August 23, 2017 a Google search for ‘Do Some People Deserve To Die’ returned over 4 million results indicating the scale, scope, and depth of the debate within contemporary society.
What is your opinion?
Could you decide who should live or die?
What criteria would you use to decide life or death?
Who would do the killing?
Some People Deserve To Die is a story of survival, revenge, and the decisions one man makes to decide the ultimate fate of many people.
It is s story of the suffering and degradation forced on the protagonist which over time transforms Alan, a timid teenage boy, in to a ruthless killer.
After twenty years of running from his crime, and equipped with frightening skills learned in the violence-laden drug smuggling world, and refined while fighting with mercenaries in Africa, Alan has become a destitute alcoholic roaming the streets of downtown Toronto.
A chance encounter, a violent confrontation, and the death of his mother coincide to provide Alan with a chance of recovery.
Sober, Alan seeks redemption by punishing those he holds responsible for his original crime.
In creating Alan, I sought to develop a character that elicits both sympathy and outrage and force the reader to confront the same moral dilemmas as Alan and ultimately to answer the question: Do some people deserve to die?
I have visited, or lived, in the majority of locations and many of the situations and characters are composites of people and actions I experienced, saw or heard of second and third hand.
The majority of research was stimulated by my own work and travel experiences and used to provide the details and enrich the scenes.

Author Bio:
Colin Knight was born in Manchester, England to working class parents – his father painted houses and drove delivery trucks; his mother worked in a retirement home. He and his four siblings shared a small three-bedroom house on an unremarkable city owned housing estate ten miles from the city center. From seven to sixteen years old, he held newspaper and milk delivery jobs, which he did, before school.
Educated to state standards, at an experimental public high school for boys, Colin graduated at sixteen with minimum credentials. At eighteen, he joined an American international company as a general office helper. By twenty-three Colin had developed an aptitude for product management and marketing. His career with the American company provided work assignments in Italy and Switzerland, as well as travel to many European countries.
In 1987, Colin immigrated to Canada to work for a distributor of the American company. In 1991, he took a chance and quit work to attend university. By 1997, Colin had obtained a BA Honors Degree in Political Science, and a MA Degree in International Relations.
In 1999, after a brief return to the private sector, Colin joined the Canadian Federal Government. During his fifteen-year government career, Colin worked for the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Canadian International Development Agency, the Public Safety Department, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and most recently, he was a Senior Policy Analyst in the Federal Privy Council Office. Government work and assignments took Colin to Europe, Asia, Latin America and the US. Colin retired from the government in 2014 to focus on family, writing and life.
Colin lives in Ottawa, Canada with his wife, Barb, and their three children, Tessa, Duncan and James. In between housework, groceries, shuttling children and general family support, Colin is working on his next novel. Squash, soccer, learning to play the guitar, and quality beer relieve stress and writers block.

A chemical engineer by degree, air quality engineer by vocation, certified dreamer by predilection, and writer by sheer persistence, USA Today bestselling author P.E. Padilla learned long ago that crunching numbers and designing solutions was not enough to satisfy his creative urges. Weaned on classic science fiction and fantasy stories from authors as diverse as Heinlein, Tolkien, and Jordan, and affected by his love of role playing games such as Dungeons and Dragons (analog) and Final Fantasy (digital), he sometimes has trouble distinguishing reality from fantasy. While not ideal for a person who needs to function in modern society, it’s the perfect state of mind for a writer. He also writes young adult novels under the pen name Eric Padilla, and lives in Southern California, though he would like to be where there are more trees.
Goodnight
Life is pain.
That is the reality Goodie has had to accept since she was nine years old. Even before the night her childhood shattered she was never normal: her mind can process people and situations at lightning speed, she has the ability to recall anything she sees or hears with perfect clarity, she can separate from herself if she needs to – making her difficult to torture, difficult to intimidate. In summary, she is the perfect mercenary. A life in the shadows where she can stay in darkness is fine by her. That is until he tries to pull her into the light.
Powerful, arrogant, filthy-rich men are, quite frankly, a pain in Goodie’s arse. She’d much rather take an extraction job in the depths of a Colombian jungle than have to deal with their bullshit. But sometimes the money is just too good to turn down, and this time someone important, who is actually doing something Goodie believes in, needs to be kept safe. Luckily, Goodie is an expert at maintaining an invisible presence, enabling her to keep any interaction with the egomaniacs she protects to a minimum … until she meets Nick Chambers.
Nick doesn’t seem to understand invisible presence, appropriate employer–employee protocol, security precautions, following instructions, or in fact just leaving her the fuck alone. Everything about him, from his ability to laugh at their situation to the perpetual smile on his gorgeous face complete with goddamn dimple, drives Goodie insane, and for some reason makes her feel threatened. Fear is weakness, and if Goodie’s life has taught her anything it’s that you never, ever show weakness.
But Nick is determined, and he’s used to getting what he wants. He’s been effortlessly charming the women in his life since he was five years old, so he knows it won’t be long before he has Goodie right where he wants her. Only some things are so dark, so horrific, they can’t be dragged into the light. Some people are beyond redemption, and Goodnight may be one of them.
This book is a full-length, stand-alone contemporary romance of approximately 85,000 words with no cliffhanger and its own HEA.

Susie Tate is a General Practitioner and when she’s not working or writing she’s looking after her four yummy boys under five (okay, well one is actually over thirty-five but it’s the mental age that counts!). Before becoming a GP she worked her way through a fair few hospital specialities including emergency medicine, general medicine, elderly care, cardiology, general and orthopaedic surgery and psychiatry.
Maybe it’s a bit unusual for a doctor to be writing contemporary romance. But she’s worked with and treated some real characters in her time, and she wanted to use her experience to write what she hopes are funny, occasionally heartbreaking stories.

Charles Ortleb’s “Truth to Power” takes you inside the New York Native, one of the most unique and courageous newspapers of the twentieth century. Shortly after starting his small New York City newspaper in late 1980, one of the biggest scientific and political stories of our time fell into his lap in the form of the AIDS and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome epidemic. What he did with that story has secured his newspaper’s place in history. Under his guidance, a succession of intrepid journalists did some of their greatest work uncovering the crucial facts about the labyrinthine epidemic. The New York Times recently described Ortleb as “visionary.”
Ortleb made the decision to follow the facts wherever they led. His team of uncompromising investigative reporters inevitably stepped on the toes of the most powerful people in the medical and political establishment. Perhaps not surprisingly, the latter fought back by seeking to discredit the New York Native and even, in time, close its doors. But Ortleb stood his ground for as long as possible and as a result the world now can have a clear understanding of the relationship of AIDS, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and HHV-6, the transmissible virus that now threatens everyone on this planet.
