   I quickly realized that what I needed was not so much a new diet as a new way of eating, a healthy new way of eating! A regimen I could live with, day in, day out, for the rest of my life. A way of eating that I could follow as I travel the globe pursuing my writing career.
   I know a couple who used to be fat and out of shape, too tired to do much but go to work and collapse in front of the television once they got home and had dinner. But now, now they’re the picture of health, no longer obese, full of energy and vitality. They have all the vim, vigor and vitality they need to live a very active, fulfilled, exciting life.
   I asked, no, demanded, to know their secret. They smiled at each other and told me.

   That secret is The Paleo Diet, and now I’m on the road to being as fit and sassy as they are…and oh, yes…my blood sugar is already back to normal.

   I was born to write The Ohana. It’s the story of the Hawaii I grew up in-the Hawaii my parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and others spoke of. I’ve collected these stories half my life and spent the other half writing it down.

   Many of the stories in The Ohana are real stories. Regarding the formation of the mob in Hawaii. My dad’s best childhood friend grew up to be the first “godfather” of the Korean, Japanese, Portuguese mob. Years later I married a lawyer who represented every godfather in Hawaii for income tax evasion. I pored over all his legal cases and went to all his trials.

   Living in Aspen brought me into a different world and I became friends with centerfolds and models who brought me more stories.

His most recent novel, The Pitcher is a Junior Library Guild Selection and was chosen Book of the Year by Books and Authors. net. His next book Jackpine will be out Spring 2014 with Koehler Books.     Alan Hardy is UK-based, and a director of an English language school for foreign students. He is married, with one daughter. He has now written five novels. They have been described as surreal novels with plenty of comedy, satire, humor, romance, sex and adventure. They’re shocking, original and respectful of nothing and nobody. You have been warned. Alan is also a poet (poetry pamphlets: Wasted Leaves, 1996; I Went With Her, 2007).
    The four published so far are BRITT, GOOD QUEEN BETH, GABRIELLA and THROUGH THE GATES.
    As well as his poetry, Alan is currently revising one novel, and writing another: the former recounts a story of obsessive, near-pathological love, and the latter is a murder/detective mystery. Watch this space.

    J Drew Brumbaugh lives in northeast Ohio where he spends his time writing sci-fi, fantasy and suspense novels, teaching and training at the karate dojo he and his wife founded, building a Japanese garden in his back yard, and taking long walks in the woods with his wife, Carolyn and their husky, Blue. He has two novels in print, a collection of short stories, and a co-authored children’s book.
