Where Awesome Book Readers Meet Awesome Writers
- Deadly Crossing
A phone call. A common enough event, sometimes welcome, sometimes annoying, but seldom life changing. Or so we assume. But assumptions are dangerous things, and the reality is we all live one phone call away from disaster. One cheerful ring away from news of a tragic accident. One muted buzz from learning a lifetime of memories have disappeared in a raging house fire.
And so it is for Tom Dugan, rolling though the London night, the woman he loves in the taxi beside him. Life is good by any measure — until his phone rings, alerting him to the arrival of two old Russian friends with a very big problem.
Dugan’s attempts to help his friends rescue an innocent girl from the Russian mob plunge him into a world he’d scarcely imagined, endangering him and everyone he holds dear. A world of modern day slavery and unspeakable cruelty, from which no one will escape, unless Dugan can weather a Deadly Crossing.

I grew up on the coast and a seagoing career just came naturally. After graduation from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, I sailed a number of years before spending a decade in shore side ship management. I struck out on my own in 1986, and formed a company specializing in ship construction management and supervision. I’ve traveled widely and lived for extended periods in both South America and the Far East (Singapore and China). By far the most interesting aspect of travel (and life in general) is the folks you meet along the way, and I’ve had the good fortune to encounter a lot of interesting characters. Bits and pieces of some of them make their way into the characters of my novels.I write stories I’d like to read — tales of ordinary people in extraordinary situations. I dislike heroes who are some combination of brain surgeon/nuclear physicist (or who have equally far-fetched skill sets) and who just coincidently are ace helicopter pilots and fifth degree black belts in multiple martial arts. Like the rest of us mortals, my characters are normal people who screw up from time to time and live with the results.
I currently live in Tennessee with my lovely (and patient) wife of 39 years. In addition to writing and travel, I occasionally (when cornered) complete a task on my ‘honey do’ list, and from time to time, join my wife in badgering our children to produce grandchildren. All in all, a rewarding life.

- Tales From a Second Hand Wand Shop- Book 1: They Were the Best of Gnomes. They Were the Worst of Gnomes
About Tales From a Second Hand Wand Shop- Book 1: They Were the Best of Gnomes. They Were the Worst of Gnomes:Two Gnomes- Grimbledung and Drimblerod- are just trying to get along in life when their worlds collide. Drimblerod runs a moderately reputable Second Hand Wand Shop that does pretty well at moving inventory. Grimbledung runs a disreputable Second Hand Wand Wagon that he moves regularly to avoid the authorities.
Everything changes when they combine their talents: City ordinances are broken. Neighbors are annoyed. The Constable becomes involved. Even the Magician’s Guild sends over some Enforcers to deal with them. Things are definitely looking up for the Gnomes!
From multi-headed travelers looking for a good time, mysterious cloaked figures, to Half-Orcs just trying to obey their mates, everyone seems to come to the Second Hand Wand Shoppe to either buy or sell a wand.
Along for the ride are a neurotic Jousting Dummy, an immortal (so far) Rat, a Trolless who runs the Tavern across the street, a Dwarf next door with (alleged) Mob ties, and the Head Mistress of the local School of Magic (with definite Mob ties).
We’d say that all that was missing was a love story, but there’s one of those tucked neatly in a chapter as well. You’re welcome.
Tales From A Second Hand Wand Shoppe- you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll never be the same.

Robert P. Wills is a senior U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer Four, Interrogator. That doesn’t make him a bad person. He’s been doing this sort of work for over 24 years and has decided that writing fantasy stories about unstable Gnomes was a logical career progression and will concentrate on that when he retires in late 2014. Really late 2014. About as late in 2014 as one can be and still say “it was 2014 when I retired.”He is currently stationed in southern Germany, Herrenberg to be exact, where he and his wife are enjoying being empty nesters and living in a massive four-story house build in 1750. It is much too large for them and they like it that way.
Along with writing, Robert is an inventor with three patents (6,559,556, 7,293,681, and 8,561,951) and several innovations in his workshop. One innovation, the World’s Greatest Garden Hose Guide is available on Amazon- when he can keep it in stock.

- Nightlights by Chrysoula Tzavelas
About Nightlights by Chrysoula Tzavelas:Ajax Holdren didn’t think his life could get much worse, until a pretty girl with a sword decided to fight a monster right outside his house. But it turns out the monster is after him, and she’s what passes for a guardian angel.
They call themselves Nightlights, and they use the remains of alien technology– and magical swords– to fight the living darkness that preys on sentient life. They live in a tower discovered by humanity a thousand years ago via portals controlled by the tower itself. And the very best Nightlights are young adults. Most of them begin the training as children…
But once Ajax meets Natalie, he can’t go back, can’t pretend the monsters aren’t there. The power awakened inside him– and his own relentless need for a place– drives him forward. But stepping through that portal takes him into a alien world, where the walls talk and the sun never shines, and humankind’s worst enemy isn’t the monsters who stalk the street but the people who make them.

Chrysoula Tzavelas went to twelve schools in twelve years while growing up as an Air Force brat, and she never met a library she didn’t like. She now lives near Seattle with cats, dogs, adults and children. They graciously allow her a few hours to write everyday and one day she’ll have time to do other things again, too. She likes combed wool, bread dough, and gardens, but she also likes technology, games and space. This probably goes hand in hand with liking Jane Austen, Terry Pratchett and Iain BanksNightlights by Chrysoula Tzavelas is a post from Awesome Gang

Kirsten Campbell is the author of several short stories and poems that have been published in Bewildering Stories, Ascent Magazine, Beauty Talk, The Fairfield Review, Poets-Artists & Madmen, Interracial Voice, Sagazine Online, The Write Gallery, The Pittsburgh Quarterly Online, COBRA, The CoffeehousePress Journal and several other magazines.Kirsten was abandoned by both mother and father at six-years-old and she somehow survived a very devastating childhood. She found strength and courage through reading and writing and she graduated from school, got married and raised four wonderful children. She also cared for several children that were abandoned by their parents and by society, (a few were literally left on her doorstep.) She fed and clothed them and sent them to school and taught them to be upstanding, decent members of society.
Kirsten wrote Blood Master several years ago and it developed into The G.O.D.s Series, a series of books that deal with Griffin Storm, a hero with feet of clay, a hero that saves the lives of several people, but most importantly, he saves hundreds of children from abandonment and neglect; takes them to a better life, (something of which Kirsten always wished for when she was a child.)
Her short story, “Dark Matters”, was published in Bewildering Stories and a character from the G.O.D.s Series made a special appearance in the story. Said character appears in the second book of the G.O.D.s Series, “Blood Storm”.
As a side note, Ladybug Press published her chapbook, “Poetry from the Covert Bourgeoisie,” in 2006 and her chapbook, “The Abandoning Kind,” was published by Pudding House Publications in 2009. Kirsten lives in Brewster, NY. , with her daughters and her five unbelievably beautiful grandchildren!
