Loretta Collins loves working at the mill, but leading a women’s revolt supersedes. When Pittsburgh Steel Corporation refuses to honor the newly signed Equal Pay Act, the women workers have no other choice but to strike.

In flocks, they leave from behind cash registers and teachers desks. From behind kitchen sinks, typewriters, sewing machines, and hot stoves. They drop their Avon and call their sisters. They call their mothers, best friends, and cousins.

Dorothy Delveky sees this as the perfect opportunity to showcase her all girl band. They play throughout the day during the strike and venture to Pittsburgh’s popular South Side to play into the night.

Marge gets saved from jumping off the bridge and ends up across the river at the rock show, where she gets her pizza spiked with mushrooms! Now she’s living it up in the Steel City.

There’s only one problem. A dead husband.

Will the women workers of Pittsburgh Steel Corp. ever get equal pay? And is PMS a good enough reason for murder?

  4. Try Not to Die: At Grandma’s House by Mark Tullius & Anthony Szpak

TNTDAbout Try Not to Die: At Grandma’s House by Mark Tullius & Anthony Szpak:

It’s Grandma’s House – quiet, cozy, nestled on a mountain in West Virginia. What could possibly go wrong? A lot, actually. Horrific accidents, despicable creatures, a vile beast, and detestable grandparents leap off of the pages. So watch your back and choose wisely. One misstep will get you and your little sister killed.

    Author Bio:
I’m a father and a husband, a brother and a son. I’m an Ivy League grad who worked in a warehouse, an MMA fighter with too many defeats. I’m the bouncer and bodyguard, the drunk guy in the fight. The jailer and the jailed, the guilty and innocent.

I’m a writer shaped by influences, too many to count. I grew up on King and Koontz while force-fed the Bible. I narrate Dr. Seuss and Disney nearly every night. Like you, I’ve seen things I wished I hadn’t, heard some truths I won’t forget.

Writing is my heavy bag, the sparring partner that doesn’t punch back. It’s where I shed my armor and cast off the blindfold, take a look at myself and the world around me. The writing takes me wherever it wants. Dark alley or dinner table, classroom or morgue. I go along for the ride and try to capture the moment, show life like it is and let you be the judge.

tb_ugly__72dpiAbout The Beautiful-Ugly (The Trilogy) by James Snyder:

She’s sixteen. She’s alone. And the world thinks she’s crazy. What could possibly happen next? Well, she’s going to show them…

When sixteen-year-old Connelly Pierce wakes up inside an unknown psychiatric hospital with both her wrists slashed, she begins the arduous task of piecing together the events of her life that led her there. Her own cognitive behavioral therapy (as she had learned so well from them). Beginning with the sudden death of her mother and father when she was six, and the only world she knew disappeared, literally, overnight. That’s when, with no known or, at least, close relatives, she and her nine-year-old brother Eric find themselves cast into the nightmare quagmire of government child protection agencies, and Connelly begins her incredible fourteen-year journey—her dark odyssey—into her own brave new world. A world, she realizes, she must not only quickly adapt, but fight back as well, if she hopes to survive.

    Author Bio:
James Snyder was born in Memphis, Tennessee and fell in love with the cadence and sound of storytelling as a child, listening to the meandering tales of his Southern grandmothers and great aunts. While still a child, his family moved to Napa Valley, California where he attended middle and high school, and began taking writing classes at the local college. He left after a year to join the military, and was a soldier with a tactical mobile operations unit in Germany when, pulling a Harz mountaintop guard duty one night during a snowstorm, he had the chance encounter with another soldier that ultimately became the genesis for his debut military thriller AMERICAN WARRIOR.

He is also the author of the suspense thriller DESOLATION RUN, the young-adult/new-adult trilogy THE BEAUTIFUL-UGLY, the short story collection TALES OF THE LATE TWENTIETH CENTURY, and other literary works.

“Berlin Diaries” is his occasional blog at JamesSnyder.net where he further discusses the backgrounds of his, and other, writings.

    He currently lives in Texas.

  6. Deadly Coast

    PrintAbout Deadly Coast:

DUGAN THOUGHT SOMALI PIRATES WERE BAD NEWS. THEN IT GOT WORSE.

As Tom Dugan and Alex Kairouz, his partner and best friend, struggle to ransom their ship and crew from murderous Somali pirates, things take a turn for the worse. A US Navy contracted tanker with a full load of jet fuel is also hijacked, not by garden variety pirates, but by terrorists with links to Al Qaeda, changing the playing field completely.

With a possible link between piracy and terrorism now in play, the US and British goverments order the halt of all negotiations for captive ships, and enraged pirates ratchet up the mistreatment of the captive crews. When one of their crewman is murdered in front of him on a live video feed, a frustrated Dugan takes matters into his own hands and starts his own rescue operation, only to stumble across something far more sinister — a rogue salvage operation for a long lost weapon of mass destruction. Isolated at sea on an old tanker previously destined for the ship breakers, Dugan and his hastily assembled little force of Russian mercenaries find themselves the last line of defense between the world and a terrifying bio-weapon.

Weaving historical fact with speculative fiction, Deadly Coast takes the reader from London board rooms into the very real world of modern day pirates — and their victims.

    Author Bio:
I grew up on the coast and a seagoing career just came naturally. After graduation from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, I sailed a number of years before spending a decade in shore side ship management. I struck out on my own in 1986, and formed a company specializing in ship construction management and supervision. I’ve traveled widely and lived for extended periods in both South America and the Far East (Singapore and China). By far the most interesting aspect of travel (and life in general) is the folks you meet along the way, and I’ve had the good fortune to encounter a lot of interesting characters. Bits and pieces of some of them make their way into the characters of my novels.

I write stories I’d like to read — tales of ordinary people in extraordinary situations. I dislike heroes who are some combination of brain surgeon/nuclear physicist (or who have equally far-fetched skill sets) and who just coincidently are ace helicopter pilots and fifth degree black belts in multiple martial arts. Like the rest of us mortals, my characters are normal people who screw up from time to time and live with the results.

I currently live in Tennessee with my lovely (and patient) wife of 39 years. In addition to writing and travel, I occasionally (when cornered) complete a task on my ‘honey do’ list, and from time to time, join my wife in badgering our children to produce grandchildren. All in all, a rewarding life.

DailyLife_Cover_FINAL-copyAbout Daily Life by Lesley Krueger:

With her broke family squeezed into a widesized house, Leslie faces jury duty in a bloody gangland murder trial.

  8. The Loves and Tribulations of Detective Stephen Carlton by Rene Natan

The Loves and Tribulations of Detective Stephen Carlton book cover

About The Loves and Tribulations of Detective Stephen Carlton by Rene Natan

In short: Three women scar Detective Stephen Carlton’s heart. There’s April who makes him know the vortex of passion and then Gillian who gives him a family. But misfortune seems to befall his lovers. Only after years of tribulations Stephen falls in love again—this time with beautiful Livia—a fugitive accused of a horrendous murder. Now he has to choose between duty and love.

    More of The Loves and…

A native of New Brunswick, Canada, Stephen William Carlton has looks and ability, but poor luck in love.
Raised by a single mother, Steve gives up the dream of being a pilot to appease his mother’s anxiety; Steve’s father died while testing a new aircraft when Steve was only a few weeks old.
After following a training course with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, he finds a job as a constable with the Leesmer police squad.
His first real love is April, a beautiful young woman of loose morals. Even if in love with her, he refrained from dating her, providing her, however, with emotional and professional support. He longs for her, though—but this romance is not in the cards.
Steve licks his wounds by plunging into work—and soon he makes a name for himself as one of the most capable detectives in the province. He solves difficult cases and is promoted to sergeant.
Sometime later he meets Gillian, a student in journalism. Eros strikes again. They fall in love and get married. Family life seems bliss, as three children enrich their lives. Destiny is not in favor of this relationship either, and, once more, Steve finds himself alone; he dives into his work and parenting, suffering in solitude.
Years pass before the next woman comes into Steve’s life—she has been trained as an athlete, she is blond, attractive and twenty years his junior. This woman, Mary Livia White, plays with high stakes—her own life. She is being chased by the law for the hideous torture and murder of prominent lawyer Peter Bishop.

Peter Bishop’s murder is quite gruesome—and the entire police squad is on Livia’s track. It is a massive manhunt played on the table, on the computer networks, and on the phone: done with anger, viciously, without sparing any semi legal actions.

And Deputy Chief Stephen William Carton is dispatched to South America to catch her.

A tapestry of characters surround Steve. There is Albertine, a titled lady of the jet-set whom Steve had met while vacationing in Italy; Steve’s half-brother Michael, who needs Steve’s help to free his girlfriend from the kidnappers; Steve’s children Gordon, Larry and Luke with whom he goes moose hunting in the forests of the north; his colleague Carl Atkin of the Leesmer police squad; Osvaldo Castillo, Livia’s friend and trainer; the old chief of police, who hired him and guided through his career; Vern Simpson, the new police chief who had failed to arrest Livia when he had the occasion; Edward White, the founder and supporter of an organization to protect marine species, and Marline Ferguson, an amateur theater director.

Follow the vicissitudes of Stephen William Carlton as his personal life and career unfold before your eyes.

    Directly from the author.
I structured this novel in three books. Each book contains a mystery/crime that Steve solves brilliantly. Each part, however, also contains a different kind of love. Book 1 is about the emotional and physical reaction a person experiences when she/he is attracted by another human being, for the first time, and very strongly so. Book 2 focuses on one of those extended relationships that gives stability to everyday life: the ideal setting for raising a family. Book 3 is about the courage of risking your heart one more time. Three women make a mark in Steve’s life: April, Gillian and Livia. The first is passion, the second is family, the third is partnership.

    Author Bio:
I was born in 1985, in a time when being a full-time writer just wasn’t considered a viable career option. Consequently, I spent the majority of my life feeling like I don’t fit in, trying to figure out why I’m not really interested in doing anything, while completely ignoring the fact that I was interested in writing.

From an early age, I had a passion for books and stories of all kinds, especially science-fiction, which offered plenty of new worlds to explore in addition to this one. Basically, I try to cram as many lives as I can into the one I was granted.

After completing my studies in Letters and getting a Master’s Degree in American Studies – where I wrote my thesis on the music of Tom Waits – I settled for a comfortable job in IT support, which I rather enjoyed. However, something didn’t feel quite right.

A journey to the Dominican Republic to be a groomsman at my buddy’s wedding, and a near-fatal encounter with a knife-wielding hooker (I know, but it’s not what it sounds like) really helped put things into perspective. Upon returning, I decided that life is too grand a project not to be undertaken with maximum passion and dedication. In other words, I realized that I owed it to myself and the people I love to be the best that I could possibly be, and that was not going to happen in a corporate environment. With the support of a wonderful wife and a loving family, I quit my job to become a full-time writer.

I spent the first few months crafting a novel which I promptly shelved, and then I wrote Mindguard, the science fiction story I had been dreaming to tell all my life. Because of the wonders of the internet and this amazing world we live in, I went on to publish Mindguard on Amazon in September of 2014.

When I’m not working on sci-fi novels and short stories, I’m busy writing articles for various websites and magazines (most notably Cracked.com), and for my own jazz-themed website The Music and Myth.

I also enjoy taking photographs, working out, traveling and spending my evenings drinking wine and listening to jazz records in the company of my lovely wife, Ioana and our Netherland dwarf bunny, Picky.
