It All Began With… THE WART my second book actually began as a short story I wanted to enter in a contest but before I knew it I had surpassed the limit of 1000 words and it just took off. I laughed at much of it before my fingers could type the words.
   Having worked with Gay men throughout my career I found most were very artsy, fun and great friends. So this is not a bashing gays book.
   I have always wanted to write and now I have the time. I also have a problem with the word ‘retire’ I mean it makes no sense; repeat- to say it over, redo- to do it over, repair- to fix something, etc. ; get where I’m heading?
   Retire- to change a flat? How about, Relive? Start anew, keep going until your clock stops for good. Use your body and brain all up? Got it? I know you do. This is my life, if I don’t fill it with my desires then I wasted it. Waste not want not!
   Sorry… no on second thought I am not sorry for saying what I want. If this novella never sold, anymore than what it has just by word of mouth I still would be glad I wrote it.
   As a busy wife, mom and career woman I hated to start a big book only because a week could go by before I could steal an hour or so to pick it up again and much of that time was spent back paging to get a grip on the story. My novellas are full stories packed with details. Just a little less unnecessary fluff.

   After getting married at 17 to my high school boyfriend, we moved to Germany to live on a military base while my husband served four years in the Army. This is when the bulk of this series was written and developed. While it has undergone many rewrites, the story was composed and envisioned in a European setting. I spent these years writing and travelling all over Europe, as well as to Japan. Previously during my junior year in high school, I visited Shanghai and Beijing, China. I loved that I had the opportunity to travel, and wanted to incorporate as much culture and diversity into my story as possible.

   I completed my bachelor’s degree in English and History the same month we left Germany for North Carolina, December 2009. We bought a house we hadn’t even seen because our first choice was held up in banking chaos and we did not have time to close before we had to leave base. Luckily for us, the house was perfect and we had plenty of yard for our two German Shepherd babies we brought home with us from Bavaria. Cadence and Carerra keep me plenty busy and have went on many treks through the woods. It was on one of these treks that we discovered the lake in Germany where I first envisioned the scene of Blake and Anna in the forest.

   Four years after our move to North Carolina, my husband is now officially an engineer and I am still happily working on my writing!

   Anna Cruise has been drooling over boys since middle school…and writing about them, too. She hates cliffhangers, is a sucker for nice guys finishing first and revels in happy endings–and not just in books.

   Anna grew up on the beaches of San Diego but currently resides in Minneapolis. Most of her writing is done in the winter, since she is pretty sure she’s allergic to sub-zero temperatures and tends to hibernate until it’s sunny and in the seventies. Her office is her couch and her colleagues are her kids and her sloth-like cats.

    Author Bio:
    Samuel Hawley was born and grew up in South Korea, the son of missionary parents. After earning BA and MA degrees in history from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, he returned to East Asia for two decades to teach, first in Japan and then Korea, retiring in 2007 as an associate professor of English at Yonsei University in Seoul.

    Hawley launched his second career as a writer with THE IMJIN WAR (2005), a 700-page account of Japan’s sixteenth-century invasion of Korea and attempted conquest of China, reviewed in the South China Morning Post as “magnificent” and on Strategy Page as “like a prelude to Shogun.” After two more other East Asia-themed books, he turned to sports nonfiction with SPEED DUEL: THE INSIDE STORY OF THE LAND SPEED RECORD IN THE SIXTIES (2010), which received starred reviews in both Publishers Weekly and Library Journal, and I JUST RAN: PERCY WILLIAMS, WORLD’S FASTEST HUMAN, named one of the five “Best Sports Books of 2011” by the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation).

    Hawley has most recently tried his hand at fiction with his first novel, BAD ELEPHANT FAR STREAM, the life story of a circus elephant, told through her own eyes. The thriller HOMEOWNER WITH A GUN is his second fiction effort—and almost certainly not his last!
