   Thankful Strother was born 1943 in Grand Lake; AR. grew up in Eudora AR. Graduated from high school in 1961 and joined the US Air Force. Stationed in Germany for four years, there he learned to speak German and met his wife Barbara. Married forty-eight years, they live in California and have two adult children. He retired in 2003. Thankful Strother had a thirty-five-year career in computers and telecommunications with NCR and AT&T. In his retirement, he has accomplished his goal to write a book about his early life.    Raised in the high mountains of scenic northern New Mexico, Cristael Bengtson grew up riding horseback in the mountain forests and meadows surrounding the small village of Pecos, where her parents owned and operated a small power and telephone company. At the age of 17, she had a visionary experience of a loving and luminous Great Light.

   Married when she was 18, Cristael became the mother of two sons that she raised as a single mom. She earned BA degrees in music education and elementary education, going on to earn her Master of Arts in elementary education with a focus on the reading process.

   For two years she taught music in Sandoval County, at that time the third poorest county in the nation. She then became an elementary classroom teacher, teaching mainly third grade. During this time she studied voice intensively, and developed a lyric coloratura soprano voice.

   After her sons left home, Cristael left teaching and took care of her mother until she passed on.

   Cristael had her Near Death Experience in 1998. A lifelong journal-keeper, she began putting her book together about 2006. It was like finally scratching an itch in the middle of her back.

   It is March, 1649. A court in Botolph, which resembles Boston, sentences a woman to hang for supposedly trafficking with the devil. The old governor of Sagadac does everything he can to stop an outbreak of hysteria as a wave of accusations of witchcraft washes over the colony. He fights a political battle with the deputy governor, a young friend, whom he hoped would replace him and takes on a physically demanding trek into the wilderness to rally support, escape his pursuers, and rescue a young female indentured servant.
   The story is based very loosely on an isolated case of supposed witchcraft that took place in Massachusetts in the middle of the 17th century. It’s the first of eleven novels I’ve posted on kindle that feature ordinary people in challenging situations.
   A pilhannaw is an old native word for a bird of prey like an eagle.

   Looking back over my life, I sometimes think that except for writing fiction most everything I’ve done since I graduated from high school in a suburb of Boston has been a surprise. Perhaps surprise is part of life for everyone.
   I managed to finish undergraduate work at the University of Chicago, where the science and math requirements were difficult for me. I followed that with four years as an enlisted man in the American army. After that, I worked at a bank for twelve years where I learned about finance and city living.
   Then came one of the biggest surprises of all. I spent five years studying at a Lutheran seminary in Indiana, with a year of internship in Florida. In 1987, I received a call to serve as pastor at a congregation in Sudbury, a mining city in mid-north Ontario. I retired from fulltime work in 2006 and moved to Toronto, where I live now.
   All this on-the-ground experience has found a place, directly or indirectly, in the stories I’ve been writing all along.
