There’s nothing special about me. I don’t drive a fancy car (don’t even have a car), I’ve got a day job, and I live in a simple, one-bedroom condo that I rent. In fact, I’m guessing I’m a lot like you…I like movies, I’m not a church-goer or religious person, I’m in a relationship, I love pizza, and enjoy knocking back a few beers on Friday night.

However, there are probably some ways I’m not like you too. For one, I’ve been meditating for over fourteen years and have been doing so six or more days a week for six of those years. And I also live in Thailand, which I’ll admit is not so ordinary…but that’s another story.

What else is not so ordinary about me? I rarely get anxiety, feel lost, angry, or bothered by little daily hiccups that happen over the course of a day. Most of the time, I feel quite centered, calm and content. And this is a direct result of my meditation practice.

How do I know meditation is responsible for my calm and content? Easy, I used to suffer severe anxiety and panic attacks. Instead of taking medication, I meditated. A few years after practicing meditation almost everyday, my anxiety and panic attacks disappeared completely. That was over 10 years ago.

After this, I meditated on a less frequent basis up until around three years ago. At that time I was facing a near breakup with my longtime girlfriend, potential loss of job and deportation from Thailand. I had nowhere else to turn…I was in over my head. So I meditated, and I’ve been practicing nearly everyday since. Thankfully, none of those negative consequences realized themselves. And if it wasn’t for meditation, that would have likely not been the case.

When life became difficult, meditation helped me through, providing me calm, perspective, and a sense of humor. And I want meditation to do the same for you. About PFC John Gurecki: World War II Journals & Photographs, With the Big Red One from Omaha Beach to Germany

When my mom was helping my grandmother pack up in getting ready to move, she came across a cigar box that contained a number of photographs along with journals my grandfather kept while he fought in Europe during World War II. He wrote his thoughts down in a little spiral notebook, a postcard book from Versailles, and within the pages of a Nazi passport, which he took from a soldier he killed in battle. His journal entries are dated from June 6, 1944 through January 12, 1945, and aren’t in chronological order, often ‘jumping’ from date to date. Events that weighed on his mind, are repeatedly written down; such as when his best friend was killed, the Battle of Saint-Lô, or waiting for letters from my grandmother. Repeatedly, throughout his journals, he noted his name and his address. I believe his photographs include his time in basic training to his time in Europe. Many of them don’t have notes on them, so it’s hard to be entirely certain. The hundreds of questions I have for my mom about my grandfather about his World War II, she can’t answer. He refused to speak of it. Everything I know is what the cigar box contained. However, because he repeatedly wrote his name and address again and again, and because he did keep these items rather than destroying them, I believe that he would have wanted his writings to be read and his photos to be seen. PFC John Gurecki shares my grandfather’s story from his point of view.

In this book many mysteries unfold, centered around murder, abduction, deception, fame, friendship and fear, it is quite tense and sometimes disturbing, each chapter leaves the reader guessing and will have you trying to put together the pieces of the puzzle, like Davey, can you figure out what has been happening in his once quiet town and furthermore, how to stop it!

Author Bio:
I have always had a love of writing which stretched back to when I was in school, I used to love when essay time came around because I loved writing stories, however school ended and that part of me became dormant. Unfortunately I found a love for gambling in that time which then turned to hate as my luck continued to go south, I lost quite a considerable amount of money before I woke up and decided enough was enough. I decided I wanted an outlet to share my story and hopefully help people who suffered with addiction, that’s when I wrote “Down The Slot”, when writing the book my love for writing quickly returned and I decided after the biography that I wanted to explore different genres and having read a lot of Crime, Suspense and Psychological Thrillers growing up, I decided that was the road I would take. I recently finished my second book “The Disturbed: Torment and Torture: Extended Version”, I would class this book as a psychological thriller and suspense novel, I thoroughly enjoyed writing this book and will continue writing in this genre in the future.
