A woman once told me my stories will pull you apart and put you back together but never in quite the same way. I should have known I’d become a writer when at age thirteen I began changing the ending to all the books I read. It took several years and a number of jobs, including registered nurse, (very short lived), receptionist in a swanky hair salon, (great cuts, no money), accounts payable clerk, (ugh- not for a right brainer!), and practice manager in an OB/GYN office, (good job, great boss), for me to rediscover writing.

It all began at the hands of a 286 computer, a failing marriage, and three daughters under the age of five. Writing proved wonderful, (and inexpensive) therapy as I let my fingers and bruised heart begin a tender love story where the hero and heroine surpass incredible obstacles in search of true happiness and eternal love. But the story was only 100 pages complete when I packed it away and moved with my children to a rental bungalow where I took on the challenge of single motherhood and re-entering the work force. The 5 ¼” floppy disk containing the love story remained sandwiched between Lotus and PacMan until years later, when I discovered it while unpacking boxes for the home I shared with my new husband, three children, and two stepchildren. I powered up the old 286 computer, popped in the disk, and spent the rest of the afternoon re-reading the story and mapping out my future as a writer. Since then I’ve written and published several emotion-packed books, with a recurring second chance theme.

When I’m not writing or following the lives of five adult children, I’m digging in the dirt with my flowers and herbs, cooking, reading, walking our rescue lab mix, Cooper, or on the perfect day, riding off into the sunset with my very own “hero” husband on his Ultra Limited…aka Harley.

He is a lifelong reader of SciFi stories and his favorite authors have included Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke and Andre Norton. Outside of SciFi he has enjoyed the novels of Rudyard Kipling, Charles Dickens, Edgar Allan Poe and Arthur Conan Doyle.

Tom began writing SF novels at age 38, when he discovered he had read all the Human-Alien first contact or encounter novels in his local library. So he decided to write his own, thanks to an overactive, very visual imagination. Those early years produced FIRST CONTACT and RETREAD SHOP. When the New York City publishing houses ignored his later novels because they had no Hollywood tie-in, he went to several small presses, then began self-publishing as an Indy author in 2011.

Several of his novels have hit Amazon super-bestseller status in Space Opera. They are STELLAR ASSASSIN, EARTH VS. ALIENS, ESCAPE FROM ALIENS and most recently BATTLESTAR, the first novel in his StarFight series. He loves that readers in Britain, Canada and Australia are some of his most loyal readers!

Before becoming a bestselling author, Tom worked in a radiocarbon lab at UC Riverside and earned an MA degree in Archaeology from UCLA. His interests in ancient history, ancient cultures and journalism got him several government agency jobs that led him to roam the raw landscape of the Western United States where he worked as a federal archaeologist and newspaper journalist. Those jobs paid the bills for his three kids and wife Leslee.

A funny thing happened on the way to normality. When RETREAD SHOP was published by Warner Books in 1988, he discovered he could not stop writing. It was off to the writing races and Tom’s many voyages of imaginative discovery have led to 27 published novels, a book of poetry, and a conviction that when Humans reach the stars, we will find them crowded with space-going Aliens. We will be the New Kids On The Block! This theme appears in much of Tom’s short fiction and novel writing.

Tom lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA and hangs with a group of smart and tolerant Westerners. Divorce taught him to smile a lot and to work at being a Nice Guy. Which earned him the love of his wife Sue. Still, he is pretty weird. Has been since fourth grade when he began reading SciFi. Since then, he and Authority have rarely been in agreement.
