A Hero to Keep by Susan Gable
About A Hero to Keep by Susan Gable
Sometimes you have to fight for what – for who – you love.
Shannon Vanderhoff learned early on that nothing was hers to keep, not clothes, or toys, or even people. So she lives, loves, and lets go. She’s not looking for a hero.
But with custody of her traumatized six-year-old nephew on the line, she needs help. Charming Greg Hawkins, a comic book artist and art therapist insists he can coax Ryan into speaking again, enabling the boy to reveal what he saw the night of his mother’s death at his father’s hands. And though Shannon’s skeptical of Greg’s methods, there’s no denying that he brings light and color to their lives.
Greg, one of twelve siblings, knows anything worth having is worth fighting for. If anyone can prepare Shannon for the upcoming battle, it’s Greg and his family.
But will she fight to keep him, too?
A Hero to Keep is currently free on most ebook platforms. Meet the Hawkins Family in this first of the series of standalone stories centered around the large family.

Author Bio:
Susan Gable is a formerly-trad-pubbed author gone indie. Reviewers and readers alike often cite her ability to convey strong emotion in her books, to make them both laugh and cry. Her books have been Golden Heart and Rita ® Award finalists, been recognized by Romantic Times nominations for Best Superromance of the Year, and she’s won numerous awards, including the National Readers’ Choice Award. She lives in Erie, PA, a frequent setting in her books. Close to a half-million copies of her books have been sold worldwide.
She loves reading (of course!) and more reading. She resides with a cat named Romeo (we’ll ignore the tragic end of that character – he’s named Romeo because he’s a lover!) and her son. Someday soon she hopes to have a dog as well because she misses her large, slobbery English Mastiff who crossed the bridge several years back.
She love superhero movies and television shows, as well as This is Us and Grey’s Anatomy. Her bucket list includes visiting Montana, attending ComicCon, and conquering her fear of heights long enough to fly like Superman down the zipline in Las Vegas.
Conference by Hamish McBain
About Conference by Hamish McBain
Cameron Woods, a Scottish Veterinarian working in Australia, returns to his homeland to attend the World Small Animal Veterinary Conference in Edinburgh. He looks forward to catching up with old friends from university days. Damien Corrigan, a good friend for thirty years and owner of a renowned small animal veterinary practice in Liverpool, has committed suicide since Cameron’s last visit home.
When Cameron meets Damien’s wife Lydia, at the opening night of the conference, they discuss his friend’s premature death. He discovers a dark world. Damien had ludicrous money problems. He had been trying to cope with blackmail, the rape of his wife, and a daughter who had turned to prostitution to feed a drug habit.
Months before his death, Damien had sold his practice to “Noah’s Ark Veterinary Hospitals” – NAVHs- a corporate veterinary group owned by Harry Ainsley and Randal Hollingsworth. Both Harry and Randal graduated from vet school in the same year as Cameron and Damien. Harry Ainsley is now loved by the masses but hated by his peers. Randal has lost the plot and left his wife of twenty-six years , the beautiful Shona. He is now shacked up with the stunning, but icily cold, Belinda – NAVH’s financial manager. NAVHs are a major sponsor at the conference.
Cameron soon discovers that both Harry and Randal have abandoned any ethics or morals that they ever possessed and that the NAVHs empire is built on manipulation and blackmail.
Shona Hollingsworth is a beautiful spurned woman – keen to rekindle her friendship with Cameron – especially as he has left his wife back in Australia.
As Cameron delves into Damien Corrigan’s business dealings with NAVHs he is suddenly engulfed in a world of blackmail, drugs, sex and murder.
The pace is frenetic. The climax will leave you stunned.

After the Fog by Kathleen Shoop
About After the Fog by Kathleen Shoop:
A love story wrapped in historical drama…
In the steel town of Donora, Pennsylvania, site of the infamous 1948 “killing smog,” headstrong nurse Rose Pavlesic tends to her family and neighbors. She’s even managed to keep her painful secrets hidden from the love of her life, Henry, her dutiful children, and large extended family.
When a stagnant weather pattern traps poisonous mill gasses in the valley, neighbors grow sicker and Rose’s nursing obligations thrust her into conflict she never could have fathomed. Consequences from her past collide with her present life, making her once clear decisions as gray as the suffocating smog. As pressure mounts, Rose finds she’s not the only one harboring lies. When the deadly fog finally clears, the loss of trust and faith leaves the Pavlesic family—and the whole town—splintered and shocked. With her new perspective, can Rose finally forgive herself and let her family’s healing begin? Will love be enough?

Earth Seven and the History Department at the University of Centrum Kath by Steve M
About Earth Seven and the History Department at the University of Centrum Kath by Steve M:
22 years ago an unreliable spacecraft of dubious ownership crashed on Earth Seven. Regrettably, there were no survivors.
Two young boys, Allor and Roan, found the wreckage.
Now, years later one of them is about to unify the fractious groups on the planet under his rule.
Allor will bring an end to the war. He will bring hope to a world that has been exhausted by violence.
Allor will also heal people with the alien technology he salvaged from the wreckage.
After years of trial and error and having mastered only a small fraction of the technology in his possession, he recently figured out the communications and even has an interstellar drive that is forbidden to be used within the solar system due to the huge exhaust area. He believes it is a weapon and is technically correct in his crude assumption of its possible uses.
Allor’s mother, Tal, leads a campaign to get people to worship her son as ‘the one true, living god.’ He, however, is not so happy about this.
Koven Modi is a historian like his parents, despite the trauma of his childhood. He is sent to Earth Seven to investigate the use of comms technology on a planet rated Primitive 3 and under contact quarantine.
Being a field agent historian in the History Department at the University of Centrum Kath is the most dangerous job in the galaxy.
Why? Historians are responsible for history past, present and future.
To assist them in avoiding disaster (POCATFU in historian parlance), they operate the largest probability calculator in existence, the very famous and highly respected Calcus Majorus, which calculates the probability of all possible outcomes throughout the universe. Imagine all the possibilities. Calculating the odds of stubbing your toe the next time you walk into the kitchen? It that possible?
Historians believe it is. All, except for Professor Lall. She thinks there are fundamental formulaic errors in logic and is working to test that hypothesis. The other professors shun her. All except Professor Wingut, the hero who single-handedly saved the universe from destruction a long time ago. Accidentally.
But let’s assume it works like it says on the box.
Why do all this math?
They use the results to choose their interventions in order to change the future.
Sometimes their interventions are a gentle helping hand at just the right time in someone’s life. Sometimes those same gentle hands shove someone off the roof of a very tall building.
But the pay and benefits are excellent.
Unfortunately, Koven is a coward in a job where that can be fatal.
OK, just a minute. What the heck is going on here?
Who is The Final McGee and why is he so damned important?
Who was The First McGee and what did she do? Was she the Architect?
Why are thousands of historians desperately searching for a missing physicist and his dog?
In a universe administrated by The University of Centrum Kath, the largest repository of knowledge and learning in the known universe, the History Department is in turmoil.
Still, they can all agree on one thing, the enemy: Professor Trill and his damned Sociology Department. They must be stopped.
Welcome to a slightly inefficient but well-catered universe.
No parrot ever owned a pirate ship
– The Final McGee (on agreeing with your boss)

My Real Hue by Daniel Yves Eisner
About My Real Hue by Daniel Yves Eisner
“MY REAL HUE” is an extraordinarily brave man’s quest to fully understand and accept himself despite his family obstructing his path. Though it spans five decades, the story is a poignant reminder that adult life is constantly and comprehensively affected by childhood. From the instant readers meet young Danny, his torturous relationship with his parents is evident. His dysfunctional family capitulates everything from challenges with coming to terms with his sexuality to a set of burgeoning neuroses. He discovers the only way to save himself is to sever ties with the very people who brought him into the world. The reader will accompany Danny on his painful journey toward shattering the age-old notions that “blood is thicker than water,” “family is everything,” “family comes first,” “Thou Shalt Honor Thy Father and Mother,” “you’re going to regret severing your relationship with your parents when they are gone,” and the like. Readers in similar circumstances to Danny’s will be confronting a thought-proving alternative to the self-destructive, self-loathing, guilt-ridden, depressing, dangerously unhealthy, stressful, and often suicidal existence associated with feeling inextricably attached and obligated to an abusive and dysfunctional family. Danny will ultimately demonstrate to the reader that the potential stigma of being estranged from one’s family may be well worth the tradeoff of being able to live out one’s life far more happily, peacefully, healthfully, and self-fulfilled than one could have ever imagined.”

Author Bio:
Daniel Yves Eisner was born in New York City to Jewish Holocaust survivors, his mother from Paris and his father from London. His memoir, My Real Hue, takes the reader through the evolution of his extremely dysfunctional family starting with his birth in 1950. Having been forced to leave her native Paris at the outset of the war, Eisner’s mother never recovered from the trauma of having to leave her home. Her immigration to the United States in 1941 and becoming an American citizen gave rise to a life of profound unhappiness living in a country she never considered home and being married to a man she was never in love with. Her longing to return to Paris which endured for over six decades had a devastating effect on Eisner which led to his ultimate estrangement from his family. Eisner’s inspiration to write his memoir was rooted in a desperate need for catharsis and a deep desire to help other people whose lives were almost destroyed at the hands of a deeply unhappy parent. His estrangement from his family gave Eisner the time he needed to heal, discover, and become the person he is today. Author contact: d.y.eisner@gmail.com
