The Ugly Princess: The Legend of the Winnowwood by Henderson Smith

About The Ugly Princess: The Legend of the Winnowwood by Henderson Smith

In a world obsessed with beauty, whether women wanting it or men seeking it, come meet a new kind of princess – a princess who is kind and brave and magical, but is not beautiful. She’s not even pretty. Actually, she’s rather ugly, but she knows who she is and she is powerful, fierce and amazing, for Princess Olive is the last of the Winnowwood, a magical race of women with dominion over nature. Even though her father, the king, despises her and is embarrassed by her appearance, Olive remains true to herself. When her father is captured by a rival kingdom, Olive attempts to free him, but his capture is just the beginning of a far wider plot against their kingdom. Olive unravels the plot and in the process is betrayed by her father’s ally and is imprisoned until a mysterious highwayman rescues her. Will she be able to stop the plot against her kingdom? With the help of the highwayman and a legion of animals, Olive constructs her plan and risks everything to save her kingdom.

Based on the award-winning screenplay of the same name, The Ugly Princess will take you on an amazing adventure filled with twists, turns and an ending that will take your breath away because it is also a love story of the most unusual, magical kind.

Author Bio:
I grew up as a military brat who travelled the world with my family. We moved 10 times before I was 12. Given that transient life style, I had very few friends and I was quite shy. It always took some time to warm up to new surroundings and by the time I did, we were off to our next assignment. Books became my best friends and I lost myself to them. The wonderful adventures and magical realms of possibility were so appealing to my quiet existence. I really became a fan of fairy tales; I think most little girls do. It’s fun to think of yourself as having magical powers and living a magical life. As time went on, however, I became a bit disillusioned with fairy tales as all of the princesses who were the stars of the story were beautiful. I was not beautiful. Did that mean I was not entitled to have these amazing adventures because I did not have the right face? It always troubled me. As an adult, I finally wrote the fairy tale that I wanted to see: a magical princess who was brave and kind and amazing and smart, but not beautiful. In fact, she is rather ugly. But this ugly princess is the most amazing heroine and the one I had always wanted to read about. Now, you can. I hope you love the amazing Olive and the bravest princess whose heart is far more beautiful than anyone else’s face.

EMBRACE THE WIND, an Historical Novel of the American West by Susan Denning

About EMBRACE THE WIND, an Historical Novel of the American West by Susan Denning:

What is the cost of living life on your own terms? For a young woman on the American Frontier, the price can be high.

Aislynn Maher trusted the wrong man. To conceal her disgrace, she abandons her job, her home, her family and friends. She turns to the raw, contentious US marshal of the Wyoming Territory, Orrin Sage, who is hiding a guilty secret of his own.
Setting out alone, Aislynn brings her optimism and determination to Cheyenne. But in this rough town, with its prejudice, violence and lawlessness, it’s not just difficult to do what you believe is right ─ it’s potentially deadly.
This unlikely love story details real triumphs and tragedies from frontier women’s letters, diaries and newspapers of the day, and places Aislynn in the center of their history. Embrace the Wind illuminates an intimate picture of the American frontier; the story of the women who changed the West and helped forge the freedoms we enjoy today.

Author Bio:
In 2011, I published the novel FAR AWAY HOME about a young woman who left New York City in 1868 to start a new life in Utah. Up to that time, most of my writing focused on professional journals and texts. When I ventured into fiction, I wrote short stories. One received honorable mention in a NOW short story contest and was published in Creative Woman.

The novel began as a chapter for a history book. I conducted my research in the American west for three years; I even drove a covered wagon (check out the Youtube video on the FAR AWAY HOME page at www.susandenningauthor.com). When the history book project dissolved, I used my research to create an historical novel.

As a self-published, unknown author, I never imagined anyone would read FAR AWAY HOME. But tens of thousands of readers did. It rose to the Top 100 Ebook Bestsellers in August 2011, and by October, it reached #39 in the Bestselling Kindle Ranking! It became #1 in Western Romance, #2 in ebook Historicals and #3 in all Historicals for six weeks in 2011. For the next four years, it ranked among the Top 100 in each of these categories. Squidoo listed FAR AWAY HOME as a bestselling Western for 2012 and 2013. In 2011, the ebook was an Indiereader Self-Published Bestseller for 8 weeks. Tantor Media noticed FAR AWAY HOME’s success and in August 2015, released the audiobook version.
To my great surprise, many readers requested the next chapter of Aislynn’s story. I am pleased to announce the sequel is now available.
EMBRACE THE WIND, an Historical Novel of the American West: Aislynn’s Story- Book 2 debuted on Amazon in March 2017.

USA Today bestselling, Amazon All-Star author Barbara Devlin was born a storyteller, but it was a weeklong vacation to Bethany Beach, DE that forever changed her life. The little house her parents rented had a collection of books by Kathleen Woodiwiss, which exposed Barbara to the world of romance, and Shanna remains a personal favorite. Barbara writes heartfelt historical romances that feature flawed heroes who may know how to seduce a woman but know nothing of marriage. And she prefers feisty but smart heroines who sometimes save the hero, before they find their happily ever after. Barbara earned an MA in English and continued a course of study for a Doctorate in Literature and Rhetoric. She happily considered herself an exceedingly eccentric English professor, until success in Indie publishing lured her into writing, full-time, featuring her fictional knighthood, the Brethren of the Coast.

Dancing In The Dust by Gwendolyn Pendraig

About Dancing In The Dust by Gwendolyn Pendraig:

A post-apocalyptic, dystopian fiction following the path of a lone female survivor. A very strong female protagonist who has thrived against all odds, surviving crippling abuse as a child and teenager, the apocalyptic event itself, the loss of her family and ten years of solitude and peril. We meet our protagonist, Ayla at the ten year mark, when her world is about to get a lot bigger.

This book describes graphic violence, and sexual violence, and is an honest and brutal look at the realities of being a woman in a world where civilisation and morality isn’t even a concept, and the strong rule all. Our protagonist is powerful, but has large chinks in her armor. She is intelligent but in some ways painfully naive. By our standards she is barely approaching moral, but by the standards of her world, she’s one of few people to even recognise the concept.

There’s action galore, alongside some heartwrenching moments which will give the reader a genuine empathetic connection with the protagonist. It will get under your skin and into your head. Enjoy.

Author Bio:
I’m a late twenties woman based in one of the loveliest cities in the UK. Writing was my first love and ambition, and I wrote my first novella when I was ten. I would read my mother’s annual copy of the writer’s and artist’s yearbook with greedy pleasure, daydreaming of the day that I might submit my manuscripts to a publisher and be propelled into the writer’s stratosphere.

I lost the dream sometime into adulthood. I would still write, autobiographical pieces and short stories, but these tapered off and soon I found that I hadn’t written anything that wasn’t for work in over five years.

My partner read my old work last year and asked the crucial question. Why am I not still writing? What is stopping me? The answer, truly, was nothing. Decision made, I thought about what I wanted to write, had the idea outlined for Dancing In The Dust in about an hour, and had the completed novel in six months.

I’m so proud to have put pen to metaphorical paper and created this world. I hope that readers will enjoy reading it as much as I have enjoyed writing it.
