Patrick Carter (26) is a young man with no specific trade; in the holiday season he serves as a barman and lifeguard on the shores of Lake Huron. The season is not over yet when his boss lays him off. Disheartened, he’s heading back to London, Ontario, when his old pickup truck dies. He’s walking home when he hears a scream for help.
He doesn’t hesitate. He rushes to the river shores, plunges into the waters and pulls a drowning girl ashore, safe and sound.
The criminals are upset. Now they have to eliminate not only the girl (Samantha Mcleod, 14) but also the good Samaritan who may have seen them.
The plot thickens. The head of the criminal gang is Oscar Calander (31) who deals in weapons trafficking. He uses his father’s transport company as a screen for his illicit business. He has ordered the killing of his girlfriend, Amelia Mcleod, (19) who had witnessed a big exchange of assault rifles. His men had mistakenly targeted the younger sister, Samantha.
The Ministry of Defense via CSIS (the Communication Security Intelligence Service) establishes a Task Force to eliminate all trafficking of weapons that are acquired in the Yukon, transported to Ontario, and shipped across the border to the US.
The head of the Task Force is André Des Pres, who had tried to find Amelia without success. When he hears that the gang has tried to kill another member of the same family, he makes contact with the Mcleod family and Patrick. Nobody wants to get involved, but Des Pres convinces them that they are involved, even if they don’t like it. Meanwhile Amelia, who has learned that Oscar wants to eliminate her, goes into hiding.
Two members of the criminal gang, Martha Steiger and Nat Smith, are also looking for Amelia and Patrick Carter with instructions to kill them. When Arnold Calander, Oscar’s father, fires Martha and Nat because of their ineptitude, they go into business by themselves, and find and kidnap Amelia. They ask Jessica Mcleod, Amelia’s grandmother, for a ten-million-dollar ransom. The payment of the ransom fails; Nat gets killed and Martha is stuck with a sick Amelia in her pickup. The Task Force is active in gathering information and asks Patrick to help out in their operation. They get him hired as a bartender in two places where they know the initial contact between buyer and seller takes place.
As Samantha joins her parents up west, Oscar manages to get the three killed while on a charter plane. The search intensifies, using sophisticated equipments, including drones.
Des Pres convinces Ron Amaldi, a member of Oscar’s gang, to switch sides, so Ron acts as a mole during a big transfer of assault weapons from Manitoba to Port Glasgow, where ships are ready to take them south of the border.
Most of the gang falls in the police raid, but Oscar escapes, taking with him a severely injured Ron.
Martha unloads a sick Amelia on the shores of a small lake.
The search for Martha, Ron and Oscar continues. Amelia is found in an abandoned shed, in poor condition; Ron recovers slowly and Oscar, abandoned by his men, is arrested because of a stolen bike. Martha attempts to dig herself out of trouble, but gets caught. A romance blooms between Patrick and Emy, an ex-CSIS agent.
The story terminates with a big party during which Patrick launches his new drink, Lemoncella Cocktail.

Rene Natan, aka Irene Gargantini Strybosch was born in Milan, Italy. She first followed a career in information technology, and taught that discipline at the University of Western Ontario, now renamed Western University. An IEEE Senior Member, she has about a hundred scientific papers to her credit and has received four awards in science; two from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (25 Years of Excellence in Research and Recognition to Contributing to Canadian Research) and two from the IBM Centre for Advanced Studies: Contributing to Canadian Research and Pioneer of Computing in Canada. The desire to write fiction, however, never left her since plots kept taking shape in her mind. As a little girl, in fact, she wanted to be a storyteller. At recess time she would gather some of her schoolmates and entertain them with stories—some of her own, others just summaries of books she had read. After she left the university, she took several e-courses on fiction writing and then jumped into the field with the enthusiasm of a novice. Catherine Basu, M.Ed is an ACE-Certified personal trainer with a secret: she grew up dreaming of ways to get out of gym class.

Her grandfather, a physician, never gave in to her requests to write a doctor’s note that would get her out of P.E., but she’s grateful now for his integrity. Her years of toiling in the gym have made her a passionate ally of those who want to get in shape but feel uncomfortable in the gym environment. Ultimately, it led to the creation of her company, Fit Armadillo®, whose mission is to help busy individuals find fitness they can enjoy at their own place and pace.

Armed with her B.S. Degree in Biology from The College of William and Mary, Catherine enjoys debunking fitness and nutrition myths to help her clients achieve lasting results and uncover the many benefits of an active lifestyle. Catherine has been quoted for her expertise in WebMD magazine, on SparkPeople.com, LiveStrong.com, EmpowHER, Fitbie, and WorldLifestyle, and writes as a blogger for the Huffington Post.

Catherine has zero tolerance for diets, supplements, and detoxes (and not just because she’s a huge fan of gluten-full bread!), but lots of love for those new to fitness. An avid runner, she has competed in races from the 1500m to the full marathon, and loves helping others start a running routine.

While no longer a classroom teacher, Catherine enjoys using her Master’s in Education from The University of Connecticut to promote literacy as a volunteer tutor in local schools.
