Pianist in a Bordello by Mike C. Erickson

BE048154About Pianist in a Bordello by Mike C. Erickson

Pianist in a Bordello

What would happen if a politician decided to tell the truth—the whole truth?
Richard Youngblood, aspiring Congressman, is about to find out. He’s running on a platform of honesty and transparency—and against the advice of his friends and advisers he’s decided to start with himself. His autobiography will lay his entire life bare before voters just days before the election.
And what a life he’s had. Born in a commune and named Richard Milhous Nixon Youngblood as an angry shot at his absent father, Richard grows up in the spotlight, the son of an enigmatic fugitive and the grandson of a Republican senator. He’s kidnapped and rescued, kicked out of college for a prank involving turkeys, arrested in Hawaii while trying to deliver secrets to the CIA…Dick Nixon Youngblood’s ready to tell all.
He’ll even tell his readers about the Amandas—three women who share a name but not much else, and who each have helped shape and define the man he’s become.
Are voters really ready for the whole truth?
Are you?
Pianist in a Bordello is a hilarious political romp through the last four decades of American history, from a narrator who is full of surprises.

Mike C. Erickson grew up in the idyllic college town of Logan, Utah, but because of a twist of fate he graduated from high school in Honolulu. He left Hawaii brimming with aloha and enrolled at Utah State, where he was awarded two degrees and self-proclaimed minor intellectual status, which was of dubious value when the US Army invited him to vacation in South-East Asia. Ten days after leaving Vietnam, he began decades of dispensing pearls of wisdom as a high school history teacher, academic decathlon coach, and on occasion, as a community college instructor in the Sacramento area. Mike and his wife Trudy, have two grown sons and a grandson born soon after this novel is published. When not in Hawaii or another exotic locale, they live in Gold River, California. This is his first novel.

whichhalfdavidsmallestfinal-fAbout Which Half David by Mark W Sasse:

Is your obsession worth killing for?

When his brazen ex-lover shows up with her own agenda, she becomes the greatest temptation of his life, and he must decide how far he is willing to go to have her.

As a young kid I loved the fighting fantasy books and attempted to recreate their nicely woven descriptive chunks of action with little success. I hung up my quill for a few decades before luckily re-finding my childhood passion through blogging.

Penned In is my first effort at writing a full novel based loosely around my life experiences generally and from working in the IT industry.

By the time she hit Grade Four, Laura Tobias knew she was going to be a writer. So did the teachers. It was the persistent daydreaming and invisible friends that tipped them off. The question was: how could she daydream for the rest of her life and get paid for it? The answer: Trade the crayons for a computer and write those stories down. Oh, and grow up first. She’s managed the first two. She’s still working on the growing up part.

Laura Tobias lives with her family, including two Shetland sheepdogs, in the Pacific Northwest. She’s an award winning author of 19 books for teens and children written as Laura Langston.

‘Deanna looked up at him, her eyes smiling, her short dark hair swept up and away from her face. He took her hand, helping her out of the limousine, highly conscious of her fingers wrapping around his. She was captivating, dressed in a short black dress, shoulder straps as thin as pencil lines, her glorious long legs sheathed in black gossamer stockings. Her neck was bare he noticed, thinking of how he would cover it in kisses and drape it in jewels as sparkling as her eyes. He felt helpless with love, at this moment in his life she held more sway over him than money. In his eyes she was priceless, more coveted than a Monet hanging on his wall; as rare as a mermaid in a droplet of water. Precious.’

All she did was take her dog for a walk, a small, mundane act that would change Deanna’s life forever. It was the day she met Lucian Finlay, the owner of The Fountain Hotel; a five star, deluxe, exclusive establishment catering to the whims and wishes of the upper echelon of Sydney society.
Lucian Finlay is the embodiment of his hotel.
He is the epitome of style and elegance.
He is despicable.
He will do what needs to be done to get what he wants.
He wants Deanna.
He wants to give her the world but first he will take her world away.

Author Bio:
I live in a small coastal town a few hours south of Sydney. I used to live in the suburbs and have a full time job like everyone else I knew, until my husband and I decided that life was too short and that waiting until we were retired before we could enjoy life was a wait too long. So we did it, we left Sydney and now live in, I think, the most beautiful place on Earth.

Now I have time to write, now I have the time to concentrate on this obsession I have had for as long as I can remember; the wonder of words. It has always fascinated me how stringing a few words together makes a sentence, a few sentences become a paragraph and before you know it, there they are coming to life before my eyes, these people who have been dancing around the neurons and receptors of my brain, just waiting for their moment to burst out through my fingertips onto the page. It seems that once these characters have found the exit out of my head they take control of the situation, living their lives on the pages, saying their own words, sometimes the strength of their personality taking the story in a completely unexpected direction. I know, you’d think I’d have more control over the situation, right? But it doesn’t always end up that way. I find that some of these people (and they do become real people to me) come completely out of nowhere, someone who might have been a small, incidental character can suddenly take over the story.

In regard to my style of writing and who I might write like… well, I write like me. I’m not a genre writer. I write the stories the people in my head tell me to – and they’re all different. Although I will say, they all have a dark thread of some sort running through them, even my ‘nice’ stories tend to have a dark shadow lurking in the background. I’m not what you would describe as being of a bright, sunny disposition, although I do have a very well developed sense of humour.

Some of my characters are lovely, there has to be at least one to buoy up the story, and oddly, I’ve even had crushes on some of my characters, which is strange but beneficial from a writing standpoint as it inspires me to write more because I can’t wait to get back to that internal world and spend some time with that particular character again. And then there are those characters who are just plain mean and nasty and I question myself on where this person emerging out of the page is coming from. Sometimes I wonder if I have some kind of schizophrenic mental disorder and only venting through my writing keeps it in check, but I think a lot of writers think that at some point. My fear is – if I didn’t write, would I be some kind of twisted serial killer? Nah…

My writing influences would have to be Stephen King since I’ve devoured just about every one of his earlier books. I still pick the odd one up every now and again to see what he’s been up to. John Irving – a Prayer for Owen Meany. Classic. Now that’s how you bring a character to life on the page. But Daphne! Daphne! Ahh Ms du Maurier – she is the writer I aspire to, she is my kind of story teller; dark, brooding, but still oh so romantic.

And let’s not forget Emily Bronte – Wuthering Heights being one of my all time favourite books in the history of the world. Ever!

Anyway, that’s me. I have a website and Facebook page as well as Author Pages on Amazon’s Author Central, please feel free to check them out, (I’m currently giving away a freebie short story collection through my website).
