I quickly scooted out of the booth, realizing Hawk was right behind me. Before I could question him, he grabbed my arm and proceeded to jerk me in the direction leading to the back of the bar. I glanced around the bar wildly, but I didn’t see Dane’s men anywhere.

“They left, but they’ll be back.” We entered a dark hallway and halfway down he stopped us at a door. I expected him to knock, but he lifted his leg and kicked the door in, causing the occupants in the room to scream out in fear. “Out!” he snarled.

I barely had time to acknowledge the naked couple before they snatched up their strewn about clothes and rushed past us. As the man passed me I recognized him as one of Hawk’s men. “Take your clothes off.”

“What?”

“Take your clothes off.”

I know my jaw dropped at his demand. When I realized that he meant it I began to back up, slowly shaking my head. “You’re crazy!” I whispered sharply.

“Take your f**kin’ clothes off!” So far he hadn’t moved from his spot, yet I’d backed up until my back was against the wall. “Those men knew how to find you, which means there’s a bug on you somewhere.”

I tried to decipher what he was saying, but my brain wouldn’t wrap around the words that he thought I had a bug on me. He took a menacing step toward me, and that was all I needed to do what he wanted. Strangely, I wasn’t afraid of Hawk, only of what having his hands on me would make me feel. I was attracted to him in a strange way that left me feeling confused. Maybe it was because I knew that he wasn’t attracted to me.

I quickly removed my hoodie and handed it to him, kicking off my shoes at the same time. As Hawk began going over it, I unzipped and rolled down my jeans. I’d reached for the bottom of my t-shirt when a memory slammed into me.

“Just a minute.” I waited for him to look at me. “There’s no way there can be a bug in these clothes because they aren’t mine. I took them from a dryer in the laundromat.”

He hesitated for only a second. “I want everything.”

Deciding not to argue with him, I removed my t-shirt and threw it at him. He caught it to his chest and I swear I saw the tiniest curve of his mouth showing amusement at my irritation. He examined my clothes thoroughly, finding nothing, as I’d expected. Then he turned those dark eyes on me, running his gaze up and down my body, missing nothing.

“Everything,” he demanded. “Or did you borrow your underwear, too?”

For me, the name Dante conjured up two images. The first was the epic depictions of Hell from Dante’s Inferno, with people burning for their sins. The second image was a sexual depiction. I don’t know where it came from, but as far back as I can remember, I had always associated the name Dante with a beautiful and sexy man. I’d imagined a dark-haired, dark-eyed, gorgeous lothario, the type who could capture a woman’s heart with just one look. Dante was the Fabio of my generation, the heartthrob that got women’s hearts beating fast, made us want this man to rip our clothes off and to throw us onto the bed.

Little did I know that the Dante that walked into my life was very different from the one I’d imagined. Oh, he was dark-haired, dark-eyed, gorgeous, even a lothario … just … he wasn’t a man. He was a fifteen-year-old boy who was going to send me to the Hell his namesake had written about.

NATIONALITY: I am a New Zealander with Croatian heritage.

SPORTS: As a teenager my favourite sports were karate, badmington, and running. I also did unarmed combat and played in a touch rugby team (my gym teacher made me do the last one!) Now, I stick to coaching soccer and running. I have completed two marathons, numerous half-marathons and one 30K run.

CAREER PATH: I started off as a Graphic Designer, then went to Auckland University, where I got a BA degree in Art History and Italian Studies and a post-graduate Honours degree in Art History. I worked in the Art History field, then became a full-time artist, doing commissions. I eventually lost all of my senses and gave it up to be a writer

FAVOURITE FOODS: I’m vegetarian. I love pasta based foods, tofu, chocolate mousse and golden queen peaches.

BAD HABITS: I’m a major procrastinator, I stay up way too late writing, and I get distracted easily unless it’s doing something I love.

I grew up in Hertfordshire where I discovered my love of books. I started writing fairy stories at an early age, inspired by the stories of Hans Christian Andersen and the Brothers Grimm. I continued writing poems and short stories over the years and then in 2010 I got the idea for a novel. By the time I was halfway through writing it, I realised there was too much story for just one book, and so the Heart Search trilogy was born. Author Bio:
I was born in South Carolina but moved to New York when I was three years old. I went to Professional Children’s School in NYC where I was exposed to the arts. Although I loved writing from the time that I was eight years old, the passion was fueled after I got into high school and college where I majored in it.

Once I was old enough to hold a pencil correctly, I began writing stories about getting the baby sister that I so badly yearned for. I’d write every night before bed until one day my mom told my older brother and me that she was going to have a baby. We were both beyond ecstatic, although my brother cried when we learned that the baby was a girl. I screamed for joy because I finally had my sister. Then about a year later, my mom gave us a little brother. Four years after that, we got another baby sister and two years later, another sister. Moral of the story: Be careful what you write for.

The idea for Lucy Green Eyes came into thought in 1997. My mother would always talk about what her life was like as a young girl having to run from her strict grandmother’s switches, and dodging dirty old men in the cotton field, outrunning trucks that’d be in hot pursuit of her and finding ways to become invisible to her molester. Then one day my sister and I said, “Hey Ma, your life can be a book.” Hence the birth of Lucy Green Eyes.
