I was born in South Carolina but moved to New York when I was three years old. I went to Professional Children’s School in NYC where I was exposed to the arts. Although I loved writing from the time that I was eight years old, the passion was fueled after I got into high school and college where I majored in it.
Once I was old enough to hold a pencil correctly, I began writing stories about getting the baby sister that I so badly yearned for. I’d write every night before bed until one day my mom told my older brother and me that she was going to have a baby. We were both beyond ecstatic, although my brother cried when we learned that the baby was a girl. I screamed for joy because I finally had my sister. Then about a year later, my mom gave us a little brother. Four years after that, we got another baby sister and two years later, another sister. Moral of the story: Be careful what you write for.
The idea for Lucy Green Eyes came into thought in 1997. My mother would always talk about what her life was like as a young girl having to run from her strict grandmother’s switches, and dodging dirty old men in the cotton field, outrunning trucks that’d be in hot pursuit of her and finding ways to become invisible to her molester. Then one day my sister and I said, “Hey Ma, your life can be a book.” Hence the birth of Lucy Green Eyes.

About the Author

Mike C. Erickson grew up in the idyllic college town of Logan, Utah, but because of a twist of fate he graduated from high school in Honolulu. He left Hawaii brimming with aloha and enrolled at Utah State, where he was awarded two degrees and self-proclaimed minor intellectual status, which was of dubious value when the US Army invited him to vacation in South-East Asia. Ten days after leaving Vietnam, he began decades of dispensing pearls of wisdom as a high school history teacher, academic decathlon coach, and on occasion, as a community college instructor in the Sacramento area. Mike and his wife Trudy, have two grown sons and a grandson born soon after this novel is published. When not in Hawaii or another exotic locale, they live in Gold River, California. This is his first novel.

Author Bio:
Sandra Ulbrich Almazan started reading at the age of three and only stops when absolutely required to. Although she hasn’t been writing quite that long, she did compose a very simple play in German during middle school. Her science fiction novella Move Over Ms. L. (an early version of Lyon’s Legacy) earned an Honorable Mention in the 2001 UPC Science Fiction Awards, and her short story “A Reptile at the Reunion” was published in the anthology Firestorm of Dragons. Other works include the science fiction Catalyst Chronicles series, the fantasy Season Avatars series, SF Women A-Z: A Reader’s Guide, and several science fiction and fantasy short stories. She is a founding member of Broad Universe, which promotes science fiction, fantasy, and horror written by women. Her undergraduate degree is in molecular biology/English, and she has a Master of Technical and Scientific Communication degree. She currently works for an enzyme company; she’s also been a technical writer and a part-time copyeditor for a local newspaper. Some of her other accomplishments are losing on Jeopardy! and taking a stuffed orca to three continents. She lives in the Chicago area with her husband, Eugene; and son, Alex. In her rare moments of free time, she enjoys archery, crocheting, listening to classic rock (particularly the Beatles), trooping as a Jawa with the Midwest Garrison of the 501st Legion, and watching improv comedy.
