The Wicked Wager by Anya Wylde

wickedwagercoverAbout The Wicked Wager by Anya Wylde

The infamous rake, Lord Richard Hamilton, has finally chosen his bride—the very appropriate Miss Emma Grey.
The ton approves, Lord Grey is pleased, Lady Grey delighted, and Emma is over the moon, but her uncle, (the blasted) Duke of Arden opposes the match, and Emma is ordered to move to the duke’s estate to think things over.
Richard Hamilton refuses to take things lying down and concocts a plan. A plan that should have brought the lovers together and had them married within a month. It was a simple matter of masquerading as the duke’s gardener, compromising the lady, and then having the duke rush them off to Gretna Green.
Alas, he underestimates the duke’s intelligence and the tangled situation on the estate—never had he imagined that compromising a lady could be so difficult.
His endeavours lead to a comedy of errors, charades, and knotty love affairs. Yet he forges ahead in spite of pesky house guests, a flea bitten mattress, his lovesick best friend, and a blackmailer.
Just when things seem to be going well, someone is murdered (very inconvenient), and he happens to be one of the suspects (extremely inconvenient).
His simple plan for winning the wager suddenly becomes … a tad complicated.

The McAllister Men

McAllister-MenAbout The McAllister Men:

Come to Rainbow Rock, Arizona to meet the McAllister Men—Jim, Kurt and Chris.

Jim McAllister has worked hard to become a qualified and respected dealer in Navajo and Hopi art, yet professional success hasn’t given him what he wants most—a love and family of his own. The daughter of a serial-marrying mother, Meg Taylor has a fear of emotional intimacy and a grudge against the town that mistreated her when she was the principal’s daughter. Meg returns to help a friend and is startled to find that “Little Jimmy” has become one of the most attractive men she has ever met. As their feelings for one another rekindle, each must assess what matters most.

Kurt McAllister has everything going for him. So why is he discontent? Alexa Babbidge has just earned her first great break as a screenwriter. So why does bad luck find her now? Kurt and Alexa have differing ideas about what constitutes success and their differences may be too great to bridge. So why are they so drawn to one another? This heart-warming love story examines Navajo weaving, small town living, and the nature of independence versus inter-dependence as Kurt and Alexa each decide on goals and priorities at the rainbow’s end.

Chris McAllister is a healthy bachelor looking for some good times and some help on his pig farm. What he isn’t expecting and doesn’t want is romantic complications. Behind her composure and professional demeanor, pretty veterinarian Sarah McGill is hiding deeply painful personal secrets. The last thing she needs is some handsome cowboy stirring up trouble, digging for answers, making her feel emotions she never wanted to feel again. When a project for the Navajo Nation throws them together, they must decide whether they can risk making promises they may not be able to keep.

When Angels Fly by S. Jackson and A. Raymond

WhenAngelsFlyGlacierFullCoverWithWordsVersionTwoKonTikiEnchantedJF2015MEDIUMAbout When Angels Fly by S. Jackson and A. Raymond:

When Angels Fly is a true story of survival fraught with tragedy that will hold your soul. In utter sadness, great hope and faith grows. This is the inspirational story about a woman who was able to rise above an extremely abusive childhood and later marriage, to learn faith, love, and motherhood from her own son’s courageous fight with cancer. It provides an illuminating example of how women who are in physically, mentally and emotionally abusive
relationships can successfully escape even in the most challenging of times. It also warns
of how the actions of medical professionals can be a soothing balm or a deadly arrow. The story
draws the reader into the life of a mother and her wonderful little boy who is strong beyond his
years and who leaves a lasting impression on all who knew him. This memoir is moving and emotional from the very first page. No one should have to go through what the author has gone through. Such a sad tone, yet beautifully expressed. In her memoir the author tells of caring for a very sick son, who had been diagnosed with cancer. The author’s son was between four and five years old when he was diagnosed and going through chemotherapy and radiotherapy. It just doesn’t bear thinking about how awful this is-yet there are people going through this all the time. Being with her son at the hospital meant being separated for long periods from her other child who had to stay with a carer 230 miles away. It’s so hard. Add to that marriage ructions, arguments, lack of support of any kind from her family/mother and you just can’t imagine how it was for this lady. Unimaginable. She tells of hospital life, at her son’s bedside via entries in her journal at the time. How some people cope and still retain hope is incredibly inspirational. She now can appreciate the good she has had in her life, eg. her sons, even if she only had them a short time-and she now has a wonderful partner-she can see the difference as she’s experienced such bad times too. She’s a child in the 60s. She rushed into marriage with a man who was far from ideal to get away from abuse at home by her own mother. From one lot of abuse into another with a violent, drunk husband. This is such a heart-tugging book. It’s certainly not an easy read but you are carried along wanting to know more-how bad could it get, how many more things could be thrown at this woman and how would she ever get through them? The first part of the memoir was a more flowing style of writing then it jumps to where Eli is fighting cancer: These bits are told exclusively through diary entries. This section tends to be a bit repetitive sometimes but that reflects just what they’re going through-they have to do a lot of the same things every day, they’re in limbo, they don’t know if he’ll improve or not, it’s one long road of diagnostic tests, chemo, radiotherapy treatments and surgeries, blood test results daily etc. This is a very hard read. A very hard read indeed. One can only imagine the extent of the sorrow when something like this happens, when you’re right in the middle of it, going through it, living it. This is incredibly moving, you can’t fail to be touched intensely by the final scenes. There is a good, hopeful ending after all the anguish though. The author is certainly a survivor. With all she has gone through, wow, I have no words, her memoir speaks volumes.
