levi-koenig-cover-kindle_smallAbout ‘Levi Koenig, A Contemporary King Lear’ by Dorothea Shefer-Vanson:

An ailing old man and his three daughters, each one with a life and problems of her own are caught up in a spiral of emotions. Filial duty combined with sibling rivalry serve to aggravate the already volatile mix of money, sickness and impending death. The sisters try to cooperate, but their tendency to compete with another gets in the way. The discovery that their father has been involved with an unknown woman and has even been sending her sums of money further exacerbates their problematic relations with one another, their father and his carer until the final denouement. Author Bio:
Unaccustomed as I am to public speaking… Well OK, here goes. I was born and brought up in post-war England (London, actually), went to university and then moved to Israel in search of sunshine and handsome men. I found plenty of both, and have now been happily married for almost 50 years, with three children and seven and a half grandchildren. I worked as a translator (Hebrew to English) for most of my working life, but now devote myself almost entirely to writing. I also paint in watercolours and have done the covers for the three books I have published to date (all available on Amazon). I am addicted to classical music and have to have the radio on tuned to that station at all times, as well as going to concerts when I can.

A Proper Young Lady

aplyCoverSmallAbout A Proper Young Lady:

Free on February 23rd and 24th. Free copy anytime in exchange for an honest review.

An intersex sweet romance.

A woman with the complete form of Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome might never discover that she has testes in her abdomen rather than ovaries and uterus. Danièle knows, and she grieves that she can never have children. She has a partial form of AIS that left her with ambiguous genitals, a steady stream of doctors and psychologists, and parents determined to see her happy as a girl.

Melanie’s life has sucked ever since her best friend and childhood crush left town. But now, after five eternal years without even a text message, Danièle’s back, a proper young lady, with a fiancé and all.

“Will you act as a surrogate for Ethan and me?” Danièle asks.

“Well, yeah.” Long ago Melanie said she would. And she keeps her promises. Even if Danièle doesn’t.

Melanie starts her IVF cycle in preparation for carrying Ethan’s child. At the last minute, the clinic tells Danièle they can extract immature sperm from her gonadal biopsies. So Danièle agrees to become the biological father herself. She’ll tell Ethan. And Melanie. Someday.

Ethan adores the graceful young woman named Danièle, while Melanie imagines a life with the father of her child. Danièle? She’s happy with her intersex body—somewhere between princess and little boy. But in a black and white world, she must choose—once and for all—who she will be. And whom she will love.

Author Bio:
Lianne thought she was a changeling—half elfin girl and half human boy. After all, she was the smallest of her peers and had a pixie face. She loved her books. And her tea sets. And playing house with the other girls. But her parents feared losing her because she was so frail.

In fifth grade Lianne was finally taller than one of her classmates. Well, the same height as Karen, anyway. That was something, wasn’t it? The two were best friends until the principal came by one day and said Lianne had to play with the boys. Even though she was so much smaller. And weaker. And got hurt easily.

Her mom and dad started nudging her toward more masculine behavior, too. They thought she was a boy. She wasn’t, you know. Nobody told her she was intersex, but that’s the word for her. She’s not XY. Or XX. And her testes were part ovary. Or was it the other way around?

Instead of acting more like a boy, she fell in love with one. She dreamed of being a wife and mother. But she knew she’d never have anyone. What straight boy wants someone only half girl?

She ran off to a college far away from home. From a supportive family to the brutal world of a boys’ dorm. She wasn’t one of them, you know; they made certain she knew that much. And they proved they could do whatever they wanted to her. But it was her own fault; the school gave Lianne a choice—counseling for her gender issues or expulsion. So she cut her hair short and bought a motorcycle.

Her bike went sailing across the blue sky one day not long after, and they both tumbled down the road. Lying on her back, wondering at the lack of pain, Lianne heard a silent voice telling her she wouldn’t survive another month if she didn’t get help.

So she went to a doctor who treated halflings, changelings, hermaphrodites, and Others. He offered her testosterone. Said he could make her a man. But she liked her faie body and feminine looks. So he gave her estrogen and said she’d be fine as a girl.

And she was. Today Lianne and her husband live in a small town close to Nashville, Tennessee. She’s on the board of Pride School Atlanta (a safe place for bullied kids to get a good education). And she’s a Christian who writes about intersex…

I wish my readers the highest possible outcome from their reading experience. I believe that stories have the potential to be life-changing. So let us not limit the power of the story; let us read with an expectation of the highest possible outcome and allow every story to work its magic.

For me, creating is discovering and storytelling is bringing into the world dreams that are universal. They come from a deep place; they want to be known and they want to help us. Storytelling is a way of turning the world inside out, which I believe it desperately needs.

Sinful Cinderella

Cinderella-Cover-JAbout Sinful Cinderella:

FREE on Amazon for February 20.

I’m not who they think I am. A docile girl who meekly obeys her stepmother and stepsisters. Some kind of sick angel who cheerfully bears their mistreatment. That’s what I WANT them to think. Because then they won’t suspect what I’m really up to.

The ball, the prince – it’s all part of my plan to come out on top. Stepmother and her demented daughters will pay for every floor I have scoured, every sneer I have borne. They don’t know about the white magic, how I use it to enhance myself. They can’t see that my heart is black as midnight, rotten as a poisoned apple.

They’re about to find out.

Author Bio:
Hi! Thanks for stopping by! I’m Anita. An author, artist, and mommy with not enough time to do any of those things. I’m sure you understand.

Author bios are sometimes boring so I’ll try to make this more fun. Here are 10 semi-interesting facts about myself:

1. I was born in Philadelphia, PA. Honk if you know what ‘hoagies’ are.

2. I was home-schooled.

3. I started drawing when I was two years old. My dad would draw a big bus for me and I’d draw a happy face in each window.

4. I’m a chocoholic who’s allergic to chocolate!!! Yes, I’m living the nightmare. Chocolate makes me bad-tempered, hysterical, or both. I sure miss ice cream sandwiches. And M&Ms. And brownies. And chocolate milkshakes. And Oreo cookies….

5. I LOVE literary novels, any book that exemplifies the beauty of language. “In vain have I struggled, it will not do! You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.” (sigh)

6. I was once a donor for a bone marrow transplant. The recipient was my little sister. I was eleven years old at the time.

7. I collect piggy banks and paint them too! My favorite so far is the leopard-print piggy.

8. I can’t. watch. horror movies.

9. I now live in upstate New York. After Philadelphia, I can’t get used to all this grass.

10. I will never outgrow the Super Mario Brothers! Hopefully that makes me a cool mom.

Please e-mail me if you have any questions or comments about my work. I’d be delighted to hear from you! You can call me ‘Nita’. God bless you.

Author Bio:
Grandma Lee and Billy McDee love to write humorous books for children. They firmly believe talking to children about what the have read is crucial when it comes to creating enthusiastic readers. Time for children to talk about their reading and writing is perhaps one of the most Underused, yet Easy-to-Implement, elements for learning. It provides measurable benefits in comprehension, motivation, and even language competence. The task of switching between writing, speaking, reading, and listening helps children make connections between, and thus solidify, the skills they use in each.
