Born in 1958, back before colour was invented and the world was still in black & white, I was raised in Ilford, Essex in the UK. I’ve been happily married since 1980 (honestly) and my wife and I boast three adult children and four exhausting grandchildren.

I have worked for most of my adult life as an editor, firstly for Elsevier Scientific, and then for some years as a freelancer for clients such as BBC Books. I specialised in autobiographies such as Steve Lamacq’s Going Deaf for a Living, and coffee table books, such as Wild Africa.

I have a degree in History & Literature with the Open University and since retiring to France in 2008 I have been researching the First World War as well as my own family history. I helped my mother to write her memoirs, warm-hearted stories from a working class family living in the Docks area of Ipswich in the 1930s. The combination of my research and my mother’s stories came together with a dose of fiction and resulted in my first novel, Letting Go of Love: A World War I Love Story.

This takes one of the minor characters and follows him into post-war Blackburn, and views life from the viewpoint of his young son. My husband’s experiences of growing up in this rather grim Lancashire town will provide good material for this book.

Author Bio:
Beth Madden, born in Brisbane, Australia, knew since childhood she was meant to write. She has written several fantasy novels which she aspires to publish both in print and electronically.

Beth received her Bachelors of Science and Arts in 2009, majoring in biomedical science, psychology and Japanese. From mid-2010 to mid-2012, she worked in Kyoto, Japan, as an assistant English teacher. Her experiences there inspired the first stories in the Treading Twisted Lines series and continue to influence much of her writing. She currently works as a court transcriber.

Besides writing and reading, Beth loves music, singing and anime. She currently lives with her younger sister and two cats – Theseus the Destroyer and Fifi the Destructor. She has at present released seven books in the Treading Twisted Lines story cycle (there’s a Book 5.1 in there) and at this point means to write 25 stories in the cycle (not including Book 5.1) and wind it all up with a novel. That’s a fair amount of work she’s set for herself while focussing on various other projects, not to mention working full time, so it may take a while; the very first book in the series, The Chosen Voice, was first released back in September 2012.

While her story cycle is a series and the books are released in recommended reading order, each Treading Twisted Lines story is designed to be an independent read (except for Book 5.1 … people should probably read Book 5 first). The stories, however, are heavily interrelated, sharing characters, settings and events. Treading Twisted Lines was meant to be a fantasy short story cycle, but tumbled from the genre somewhat with the length of Book 4.
