Where Awesome Book Readers Meet Awesome Writers

Show Time by Phil Harvey

ShowTimeAbout Show Time:

Only $0.99 December 23rd-29th – Happy Holidays!

Future viewing audiences have become totally desensitized to violence and entirely dependent on sensation to escape their boring workaday lives—an addiction nurtured by the media with graphic portrayals of war and crime and with so-called reality programming. Now, TV execs in pursuit of the only things they care about—higher ratings and bigger paychecks—have created the ultimate reality show: Seven people, each bearing the scars of his or her past, are deposited on an island in the middle of Lake Superior. Given some bare necessities and the promise of $400,000 each if they can endure, the three women and four men risk death by starvation or freezing as the Great Lakes winter approaches. The island is wired for sound, and flying drones provide the video feed, so everything the contestants do and say is broadcast worldwide. Their seven-month ordeal is entirely unscripted, they can’t ask for help or they forfeit the prize, and as far as the network is concerned—the fewer survivors the better.

About Sister Moon Of The Philippines by Victoria Mulato

eKindle $2.99 Print $14.95

“A thought provoking, riveting non-fiction novel of a young girl growing up in an impoverished household caught in a web of extreme poverty and domestic violence in a country devoid of cultural resources. She rescues and protects her younger siblings as she tries to save herself from their father while at the same time salvaging honor and family’s dignity… A must read”.

Sister Moon Of The Philippines

Xulli entered the world in a way no child should ever have to; into a family and Filipino culture of poverty, neglect, and terrible abuse. Astonishing and unforgettable, this is a captivating story about the effects of abuse on the mind of a child, the heart wrenching struggles of an impoverished family, and how a young girl strives and dreams for something better.

Born in the Philippines in the 1960s, Xulli is the first child of many. By the time she is four, she is taking care of three other siblings with both her mother and father working. In the beginning things were difficult but not desperate. But then life turns exceedingly ugly when her father begins binging on gin, spending nearly every penny he earns on his addiction and leaving his family on the brink of starvation on a daily basis.

The alcohol makes her abusive father mean. And very violent. At first, his anger is mostly directed at her mother, but after a particularly nasty beating, she flees for her life, leaving the children with him. Her father then turns his attention to Xulli and her siblings. Cruelly, he tries to teach the youngest ones that they don’t need their mother or milk by putting hot peppers on the nipples of their bottles.

With her mother missing, Xulli must find a way to protect her siblings from their father and provide for their needs. Eventually her mother returns and the abusive cycle continues. Plagued by death, loss, and periods of starvation, Xulli struggles to provide for her siblings, when she is just a child herself.

Even through many horrible experiences and extraordinary challenges, her spirit shines, never giving up hope. Demonstrating an extraordinary resiliency to survive against all odds, Xulli inspires us as she finds the courage to succeed in her own life.

A note from the author:

“I have written this book to raise awareness of the wide spread domestic violence and child abuse that is so prevalent in the Filipino culture. All too often children in the Philippines are robbed of their basic human rights to an education because they have to become parents to their siblings or have been sold for money.

Through my writing and work, it is my passionate goal to help stop domestic violence and child abuse by educating the very young as well as adults about the effects of physical, emotional, and mental abuse, and show those in need how and where to seek help.”

City Times and Other Poems by Vihang A. Naik

City Times book coverAbout City Times and Other Poemsby Vihang A. Naik

Vihang A. Naik throws light on the life of a city in all its shades, glory and misery in his City Times and Other Poems. It is an anthology of his intuitive and philosophical poems. The Poems are divided in 6 segmentsi.e. ‘Love Song of a Journey Man’ is more or less an inner travelogue, The segments, for instance, ‘Mirrored Man’ is about the other chimeras in the city .The people in the city are capricious like the walk of a crab or the colours of a chameleon. While, The Path of Wisdom’ is about the beginning of meditation and knowledge. ‘At the Shore’ records the poet’s sense of futility, memory, pain, exile and alienation at the shore of life. The title of this collection is also the heading for the last of its six sections, in which the city is unfolded as a market place, as a heaven for underdogs, and as a seed bed of change and is observed at evening, at mid-night, by moon light and through fog and haze.

The poem titled ‘Self Portrait’ starts with the diagrammatic sketch with 7 blank pages where the reader finds only 3 words at the tail-end of the page…Here “the poet envisions in an epiphanic moment, the true nature of ones self when he wakes up, ‘to see my / Self ‘ ‘discovered beyond thought’ . Between ‘my self’ and ‘discovered beyond thought’ are five blank pages. The ineffable epiphany of ambiguous. It may either suggest the discovery of a transcendental Self beyond all thought and language or it may suggest the discovery of an Absence beyond the human thought and speech.

Healing Through Creative Expression by Patricia Fentie

Book-cover-6-smallAbout Healing Through Creative Expression by Patricia Fentie:

FREE KINDLE DOWNLOAD AVAILABLE FROM…December 25 to 29, 2015!

It is a well-known fact that art and creativity have the ability to heal. Have you ever wondered what the connection is? In this book, Patricia Fentie explains how emotional wounds from the past, whether conscious or not, can cause disharmony in the body. She provides information that is easy to understand and shows how art and creativity can be helpful to work through old emotions.

The author then shares a step by step creative process using intuitive painting, writing and storytelling that the reader can use as a healing modality. The book is divided into two sections—an information section and a workbook section.

The first section provides information about the body-mind-spirit connection, a brief history of her own experience of this healing process and information on the techniques used in the workbook section. There are seven steps in the workbook that guide the reader through the process of Healing Through Creative Expression.

It is important to know that you do not have to be a writer or artist to use this technique, in fact those ‘skills’ can get in the way of the intuitive healing process. If one does have these skills however, this book can help provide a different perspective on how to use them in a powerful and healing way.

THE DIVINE APPRENTICE

SMALLER-Book-One-brighter-flameAbout THE DIVINE APPRENTICE:

For years I have thoroughly enjoyed books that kept me up at night, reading way past the time when I should be sleeping. I did have to work at 6am so it was not wise to read as late as 2am, was it? No, but I love books that captivate me so much that I find my heart pounding at the thought of getting that story in my hands again as my eyes devour every precious word of the adventure I am being allowed to join. I finally hit a point where I could not find a book that would keep me craving to learn more about the characters and story, so what did I do? I decided to create one of those stories myself. I dove in and here I am on the fifth book of The Divine Series.

About my book:

I wanted to be unique in the magic I create so I designed a system where the power source is deadly to those that use it. I call it The Divine. It’s an ancient energy that very few can feel, much less wield. As time moves on, those that can use this powerful force are slowly dying off. To make matters worse, there is an unknown hunter that is searching out and killing those that can still channel the Divine. My main character, Kade, finds himself in peril, but with a deadly dragon and a very beautiful Essence Guarding at his side, he may just have a chance at survival.

Dragon’s Melody

Melody-TwoStack-smallfile1About Dragon’s Melody:

It was just a simple job transfer interview, but it was far from simple.

After the most mind-blowing ‘interview’ of Melody’s life, she signs a contract with a gorgeous man named Skye, who she believes isn’t really human. Neither is his assistant. The sweet, blond Garen is every bit as enticing as his boss. He’s even more inhumanly gorgeous and just as hungry for what Melody has to offer.

And she’s supposed to work for these two?

Within the first week, everything goes south when she finds herself falling for both elusive men and their otherworldly charms. In spite of the unconventionally intimate ‘position’ she now holds, Melody never considered the possibility of love. She rejected romance for most of her life, because love was her enemy. Love left her mother wanting and left Melody nothing but loneliness for two decades.

The realization that she has to choose between two men she loves beyond all understanding sends her running scared. She refuses to choose, but the only other option is to lose them both and risk even worse heartbreak. Will she follow her heart or lose it all?

Garen and Skye follow, too consumed by love to do anything but compromise for Melody’s sake. They forsake their own complicated romance in Melody’s favor, believing only one of them can have her, but she is the one who is burdened with the final choice.

Once in their embrace, she makes her choice—the choice Fate intended all along.
