I grew up on the Gulf Coast and a seagoing career just came naturally. After graduation from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, I sailed as a ship’s officer for a number of years and then spent a decade in shore side ship management before becoming an independent (i.e. self-employed) marine surveyor in 1986. Some years later I formed a company specializing in ship construction management and supervision. I dislike stories in which the hero is some combination of brain surgeon/nuclear physicist (or who has some equally far-fetched skill set) and who just coincidentally happens to be an ace helicopter pilot and a fifth degree black belt in several different martial arts. Like the rest of us mortals, my characters are normal people who screw up from time to time and have to live with the results.

My name is Gábor Konrád. I’m a 39-year-old entrepreneur.
I grew up in a small town named Óbarok. It’s a town in Fejér County, Hungary where 765 people live. My family has been engaged in agriculture for 40 years, so there was no question that when I grew up I’d take on this tradition. Sixteen years ago I took over the family business from my parents.
I’m the proud father of a beautiful and smart 14-year-old-girl. Together with her and my second wife, a beautiful and creative, iron-willed woman I live in a nice family home. Currently, I’m engaged in egg production: I have 15,000 laying hens so I’m making a living out of the distribution of good quality backyard eggs and the cultivation of a 100-hectare land.
Free time
Apart from being with my close and beloved friends, I love spending my free time with my animals. I have seven dogs, four Chihuahuas, two Hungarian Pointing dogs and a Pekingese. Furthermore we have five horses on our own little animal farm, so we go horse riding on a regular basis. For me this is the real way to relax.
Another special hobby of mine is using my metal detector. I love going around looking for old treasures deep under the ground. I can spend many hours doing only this. It is so relaxing that I can totally forget about the world that surrounds me.
Exercising
In our urbanized world, we travel by car (bus or subway), usually sit in front of a computer in our office for more than 8-10 hours a day, and then at home we just plunge into an armchair and stare at the TV. This couch-potato, lazy, motionless lifestyle causes most modern-day diseases – this is commonly known. But if you’re suffering from any kind of mental problem, leading an active lifestyle is of utmost importance because exercising has a stress relieving and stress hormone reducing effect apart from the fact that it is refreshing as well.
Physical exercise plays an important role in my life; I exercise on a regular basis, three times a week, mostly doing TRX training (a type of training developed by the US army) and weight lifting. There is only one thing that can stop me from exercising: if I have a fever.

Beth Madden, born in Brisbane, Australia, knew since childhood she was meant to write. She has written several fantasy novels which she aspires to publish both in print and electronically.

Beth received her Bachelors of Science and Arts in 2009, majoring in biomedical science, psychology and Japanese. From mid-2010 to mid-2012, she worked in Kyoto, Japan, as an assistant English teacher. Her experiences there inspired the first stories in the Treading Twisted Lines series and continue to influence much of her writing. She currently works as a court transcriber.
