When my parents became too weak to live independently, I moved them from California to my home in Northern Virginia. They were supposed to be on their last legs, but because of the care they received, they went on for another ten years! After they passed away, I had to write about it as therapy for myself. But instead of a depressing memoir, I turned it into a comedy about the interaction between aging parents and their grownup children.

I came to the U.S. at the age of fifteen. I majored in English at U.C. Berkeley. My first career was in journalism, including a stint at the Asian Wall Street Journal in Hong Kong. Realizing how ignorant I was of world affairs, I went back to school and got a master’s in International Affairs from Johns Hopkins University. From there on, I worked for the World Bank and traveled to Asia and Africa to work on development projects.

All stray sounds are stored in test tubes. When one of the test tubes breaks the unexpected noise of the escaping stray sound it contains gives the Sound Catcher a nasty fright, and gives Chloe an idea..

Dina was a late bloomer. She didn’t become a “reader” until one summer away from college, working at a failing video store in her home town, the East Bay Area of California. With several hours of downtime, she snuck her mother’s book, Pet Sematary, to work and found her imagination came to life with the creepy words on Stephen King’s pages. Back at university, she began to realize her own penchant for story-telling in an exchange that started with a close friend.
