TOP 100 AMAZON BEST SELLER’S RANK FOR MULTIPLE BOOKS

After a life time of writing poetry, books, nonfiction, and legal documents, it was author Ray Bradbury’s friendship and encouragement that finally inspired Dale E. Manolakas to pursue writing as a career. He taught her that the characters wrote the book–she didn’t. Raised just outside Los Angeles by a surgeon father and a homemaker-author mother, Dale E. Manolakas had always aspired to an acting career, but also had to make a living.

Dale E. Manolakas earned her B.A. from the University of California at Los Angeles, and M.A., M.S., Ph.D. and J.D. degrees from the University of Southern California. She is a member of the California Bar, had the privilege of clerking for The Honorable Arthur L. Alarcón at the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, was a litigator in two major Los Angeles law firms, and a senior appellate attorney at the California Court of Appeals, as well as an Administrative Law Judge.

Before that she was a teacher, primarily at the high school, adult school, and university levels, and holds a public administrative services credential. In addition, she has pursued her passion for acting, primarily on the stage, but also in film and television. She is a member of both Actors’ Equity and SAG-AFTRA. She also has raised three very independent daughters and lives with her husband, a retired attorney, in an otherwise animal-free environment in California.

I love to write! Can’t help myself, I just have to tell stories.

Ripped from no headline I ever read, but it could be happening right now, even as we speak. Earth Improvement Day started out as the short story Serve Revenge Hot. One of my most popular stories, having been published twice in 2001 by one print mag, The Ultimate Unknown, and ShadowKeep e-zine. What makes it a crime thriller, you know who the good guys are, and who the bad guys are. Everything else is the action between.

The reason I turned it into a novel, the characters wouldn’t leave me alone. They kept bugging me until I told the whole story. Mark Hauer had the largest gripe.

Fort Benning, Georgia: a Major General of the US Army opens fire on his own recruits, killing dozens before turning the gun on himself. USS Carl Vinson, Persian Gulf: a veteran fighter pilot opens fire on his own aircraft carrier before diving his F-18 Hornet into the deck.

Ethan Warner and Nicola Lopez of the Defense Intelligence Agency are called in to investigate the horrific events, and within hours uncover startling evidence that the veteran servicemen were not guilty of their crimes – for they were not in control of their own minds. Delving deeper, they discover evidence that both were victims of brain control so powerful they were driven to kill their comrades before taking their own lives to hide the evidence. The enemy has a new weapon: the ability to see our thoughts and dreams, and to control our minds from afar.

Ethan and Nicola are dispatched to track down the surgeons responsible for infiltrating human minds, and expose a horrendous new mission by militant terrorists hell-bent on bringing the United States to its knees. From Berlin to Basra, to the vicious killing fields of Somalia and the dangerous streets of the homicide capital of the world, Washington DC, Ethan and Nicola finds themselves on the trail of killers who have committed no crime and yet have the capacity to murder millions. Worse, nobody knows who will turn on their comrades next…

Mailbox: A Scattershot Novel of Racing, Dares and Danger, Occasional Nakedness, and Faith

Mailbox-Front-CoverAbout Mailbox: A Scattershot Novel of Racing, Dares and Danger, Occasional Nakedness, and Faith:

In 76 funny and poignant linked vignettes, 13-year-old agnostic protagonist Sandy Drue launches a personal quest. Her family has moved from New York City to Small Town USA — not an easy move, especially for Sandy’s artist/intellectual mother who watches Sandy and her brother adapt to their new community and feels more and more like she’s hosting foreign exchange students who never leave. Sandy loves this idea, both hosting foreign students and travelling the world. At 13, she is in-between — between her mother’s mindset and her own, between childhood and adulthood, between geographical and cultural divisions, and in the 1970s, between political conflicts in American history and a changing economy. She is searching for the Meaning of Life, and she thinks she finds it. She is finally ready to write her book. The result is a compulsively readable tale of the mysteries and mischief, struggles and victories of growing up — a fantastic piece of contemporary fiction as true to life as a careful documentary.” Deep, delightful, and compulsively readable.”

“In vignettes that bring to mind Sandra Cisneros’ masterpiece The House on Mango Street, Nancy Freund’s Mailbox tells an engaging, sensitive, and at times very funny coming-of-age story. Her protagonist, Sandy Drue, is a hyper-articulate, charming narrator, who, with a few stumbles, a couple of deaths in the family, and one crazy conflict in a haunted house, comes to understand truths about herself, her family, and the world around her. This is a book for both the young and old, parents and children. Anyone with a heart that feels and a head full of questions will find great wisdom and many warm moments to cherish in Freund’s lovely tale.”
– Brian Gresko, editor of When I First Held You: 22 Critically Acclaimed Writers Talk About the Triumphs, Challenges, and Transformative Experience of Fatherhood

“Freund’s prose is a gift. Her straightforward style comes off as simple, yet goes straight for the gut.”
– Katie Hayoz, author of Untethered

“As with all of Freund’s prose, there is a wonderful energy and humor to the writing. Mailbox is a fantastic piece of fiction and as true to life as a careful documentary.”
– Michelle Bailat-Jones, author of Fog Island Mountains

“A charming novel, full of honesty and insight, Mailbox is shot through with the mystery and mischief of childhood, and the struggles – and victories – of growing up. Compulsively readable.”
– Meg Gardiner, Edgar Award winning author

“Scattershot defines well this fascinating coming of age novel. The different stories that thirteen-year-old Sandy Drue has put into her mailbox are skillfully woven together to form a beguiling whole… Not only does she relate surprising incidents of her daily life, but also her understanding of them. This is where she wins the reader’s heart. Sandy is quirky and precocious, but she is also generous and loyal… The mailbox becomes a metaphor for connection, between Sandy and her family, her friends, her world. And also between Sandy and the reader.”
– Susan Tiberghien, author of Footsteps: Falling in Love with a Frenchman

“An upbeat and heartwarming novel – a guide to the life of a bright preteen that develops with the reader into pre-adulthood, yet manages to bring out the inner child in all of us…”
– Daniela I. Norris, author of Collecting Feathers: Tales from the Other Side

“Mailbox is a heartwarming novel about family, puberty, friendship, honour, life and death.”
– Anna Solding, author of The Hum of Concrete

Winemaker-of-the-North-Kindle-VersionAbout Winemaker of the North:

“Just when you think the book hit its climax the author pulls out all the stops and throws a twist into the story line and keeps the suspense going.” –Amazon Reviewer R. Adalpe

Sviska is an assassin in service to a sect of men that rule the world from within the shadows. As a veteran of the Order, he is one of their most trusted killers, but after failure in the completion of his last assignment, he expects retribution from them. Instead, he is given a set of vague and strange instructions to take no weapons and go in disguise as a winemaker to a desolate mountain city in the far north.

Reaching a place called Elinathrond, Brethor, the Lord of the city, welcomes him. Sviska soon learns that it is no wine made from grapes but a medicinal cure crafted by the elves. A remedy that has ran out following the death of the last winemaker in a fire that Brethor suspects was no accident.

Rumors are spreading that the city is faltering. Beyond the sickness, a darkness is growing under the streets and some within the city move against Sviska and Brethor. If he fails in producing the wine, Elinathrond faces desolation, but the Order will not have him procure it once again without their own hand in its production. They have a motive darker than murder, more malevolent than mere deceit…

The truths Sviska thinks he understands will be tested and his presence in the city is not by accident but divine hand… An awakening is coming to the lands.

PENELOPE-EBOOK-COVER-MediumAbout Penelope by Anya Wylde:

Leaving behind the rural charms of Finnshire, Miss Penelope Fairweather arrives in London with hope in her heart and a dream in her eye. The dowager, no less, has invited her for a season in London, where she will attempt to catch a husband.

Thus begins our heroine’s tale as she attempts to tackle the London season with all her rustic finesse. Unfortunately her rustic finesse turns out to be as delicate as a fat bear trying to rip apart a honeycomb infested with buzzing bees.

What follows is a series of misadventures, love affairs, moonlit balls, fancy clothes, fake moustaches, highwaymen, sneering beauties, pickpockets, and the wrath of a devilishly handsome duke.
