About Davidia’s Seed by Michael Smart

Following a calamitous space battle, a small damaged pod drifts amid the debris, a single individual aboard, clinging to the final moments of life. A ship, hidden behind a small orange and red hued moon while the battle raged, approaches the debris field, searching for items to salvage and discovers the pod.

The serendipitous encounter of two strangers in space spawns an extraordinary journey and a shared destiny neither could have imagined, which will decide the fate of two worlds on the brink of war.

A discerning and cautious General, aware of war’s devastation, seeks to avoid it. A ruling Governor, imprisoned by culture and tradition, is determined to pursue it. And a clandestine operative races against time in search of the key to prevent it.

Just a Few Inches by Tara St. Pierre

JustAFewInches-thumbAbout Just a Few Inches by Tara St. Pierre:

All Carrie Roberts wants is to be a little bit smaller.

To fit into the perfect dress for the Valentine’s Day Dance. To look beautiful for her boyfriend, the school’s star basketball player. To keep his jealous ex-girlfriend, a rival cheerleader, away from him. And to be noticed by her classmates.

Exercise and dieting don’t work, but an advertisement for weight loss pills promises a quicker solution to her problem. As time runs out, she takes more than the recommended dose until she’s just a few inches slimmer. Heads turn when she arrives at the dance, and the wonderful night with her boyfriend is beyond what she dreamed it would be.

Days later, Carrie discovers that her body is changing in ways that should be impossible. While her doctor searches for a cure, she desperately turns to her friends and family for support. Everyone is noticing her now whether she likes it or not, and even the media is intrigued by her incredible story. Getting everything she once wanted has created new problems—problems that are growing more terrifying every day.

Because Carrie Roberts is shrinking.

Tara St. Pierre has been writing for over two decades, but her muse only sporadically provides inspiration. Her laptop is filled with incomplete manuscripts and other plot outlines, and she feels blessed when one finally pushes its way through to completion–no matter how long it takes!

She enjoys classic science fiction movies and television shows. When driving, she sings along with the radio loudly and off key. She prefers tea over coffee, spring over autumn, vanilla ice cream over chocolate, and caramel over hot fudge. Though she lives by herself, one of her two cats enjoys cuddling with her.

SurviRal by Ken Benton

*** Never before discounted — only $0.99 from July 15 through July 20 only! ***

The deadliest flu season in a hundred years is about to turn a whole lot deadlier. When an accident at a famous medical research facility lets a mutated avian flu strain out, a nightmare scenario unfolds. Before authorities can react, millions are infected—and that’s just the beginning. The mortality rate exceeds 80%. Leaders and elected officials soon learn the man-manipulated virus respects neither rank nor stature. The resulting chain reaction leads to a collapse of modern society—even in Colorado, where no cases of the killer strain have yet appeared.

Clint Stonebreaker, a happily-married software engineer living in Denver, doesn’t like watching the news. He especially doesn’t let Jake, his wacky doomsday-prepping brother, watch it when he visits. But when chaos goes viral through the entire country, Clint and his wife Jenny are forced to acknowledge reality. They find themselves hitting the road with their gun-enthusiast neighbor to escape the deteriorating city. Their goal? Reaching Clint’s hunting cabin in Southeastern Colorado and trying to make a homestead of it.

They don’t get far before running into a gauntlet of obstacles. Colorado seems to have become a giant sociological experiment, with dire consequences for making the wrong decisions. The spirit of American resolve is pitted against the ugly realty of criminal opportunism in every direction they turn. Ironically, Clint isn’t sure which is worse: being forced to survive in the midst of civil unrest, or knowing he’ll have to admit to Jake that he was right. Assuming he can find him…

Author Bio:
I’m probably a lot like you. I look around at the world we are living in and shake my head. The situation is unsustainable. But hey – we had a good run, right? Strong societies typically last about 200 years, and that’s right where we are. Maybe we will keep it together a while longer.

Even if the nukes don’t fly and the viruses don’t mutate, I cannot see our great grandchildren sitting complacently while we dump an unfathomable mountain of debt on their shoulders. At some point, the new generation will say nuts to that and refuse to accept being born into bondage to pay the bills for all the fun their recent ancestors had. This is exactly how revolutions start.

Going off the grid and getting out of the system is not just for crazy people any more. It’s also for very sane people. When you see an unsustainable situation and remain a willing part of it, hoping it holds together a little longer, what is it you are really hoping for? Don’t psychologists call this living in denial? The type of economic collapse that looms on the horizon will make your bank accounts worthless. Hoarding gold is a viable option, but how much of it can you really store in your city home and hope to use for money one day? Where will the food and clothing come from that you hope to trade it for?

Rural land and homesteading knowledge may be the only valuable things in the near future. This is what prepping is all about. Nobody says you have to wait until the SHTF to bug out. You can start building everything now and get out of Dodge well in advance. That way, you can get all set up with chickens and goats as well. When you have goats, you have milk – and when you have milk, you have all the dairy products you will ever need.

Knowing what you know, and having the ability to prepare now, you have no excuse when the day comes upon you like a thief in the night. The modern-day city life becomes less fulfilling once you see how you can be living an off-grid, self-sustained life on your own little mini-farm. Instead of saving money in a soon-to-be worthless bank account, you can stock up on the things that really count. You can be making new friends with like-minded neighbors. You can be building a real future.

If you are like me, this knowledge will eat away at you until you actually start to do something about it. Listen to your nagging inner self. Shift your focus. Become passionate about establishing the only form of security left to us.

I lift my glass of homemade wine and wish you the best of fortune. Maybe I will see you out in the country someday. Cheers.

Parnell’s Prime

Young Man with Guitar PortraitAbout Parnell’s Prime:

Blues guitar man The Kat, crooning ventriloquist Andre, and brooding Vietnam veteran Monty are just three of the regulars at The Professor, the Cleveland coffeehouse where twenty-nine-year-old songwriter Mike Parnell performs each Sunday night. High school English teacher by day, Mike leads his students through Homer’s Odyssey while he himself comes to understand the difference between the inspiration of a true Muse and the distracting call of a Siren. Anxiety bubbles up at Mike’s school as the 2008 Recession enters its second month, and unexpected danger lurks on the streets surrounding The Professor, but this is primarily a hopeful novel about self-discovery, the search for kindred spirits, and the power of music to heal us and bring us together. The scenes are set in gratifying detail and the primary characters form a warm and supportive circle you will want to join.

When they go one-on-one on the basketball court Rob makes it clear to everyone that his tastes have changed—at least in women.

There’s one little problem, an ex-husband who’s not what he seems, and a story that turns Rob into a bloodhound, with all clues circling back to Taylor.

The more he digs, the more Rob finds that sometimes fate takes dinner and romance to a whole nother level…

A part of Gypsy’s new ally’s mind is closed to her. What she cannot know is that Connor suspects the kidnapper is someone close to him, and the victim holds secrets that will tear through Connor’s department, putting careers and lives at risk. Bad Elephant Far Stream

Bad-Elephant-Far-StreamAbout Bad Elephant Far Stream:

“Bad Elephant Far Stream” is an animal story for adults, a novel about the odyssey of a circus elephant, told from her own perspective, through her own eyes. Inspired by the true story of the elephant Topsy, it begins in the forests of Ceylon in the late 1860s with the capture of a baby elephant known to her own kind as Far Stream. She is taken to America in a ship, a journey of several months, and sent to the Adam Forepaugh Circus in Philadelphia. There, Far Stream embarks on a new life under the big top, appearing first as “Baby Annie,” then, when she grows bigger, as “Topsy,” part of Forepaugh’s elephant dancing quadrille. She crisscrosses North America for thirty years with the circus, experiencing hardships, kidnapping, escapes and adventure. But when she comes to outweigh her keepers by a factor of forty—it’s hard not to hurt somebody. It’s hard not to be “bad.”

A poignant and powerful novel for fans of unusual fiction, “Bad Elephant Far Stream” explores the questions: What is it like to be an elephant captured and trained to perform in the circus? What does such an animal think? What does it feel? What does it yearn for? “Bad Elephant Far Stream” takes the reader on a voyage of discovery to find out.

Suddenly Calling by Beth Madden

Suddenly-Calling-01-mediumAbout Suddenly Calling by Beth Madden:

At age six, Kanara Arrou is whisked from the slums of her birth to serve the powerful Oken family. Acutely aware how the world works, Kana demands only the best from herself, determined the payments sent to her half-beggared family will never cease. But when Lord Ryoichi Oken assumes command over the household, expectations skyrocket to the absurd. Kana no longer serves only her friend Raia, the Okens’ most offbeat daughter. Unwillingly relocated to Oshi Daini, the massive Areas Capital, she is forced to become a bodyguard, an elite student, a tea master, and a kennel hand. Her talents recognised by shady activists as Raia—an activist herself—is stalked by Black Dogs with an unknown agenda, Ryoichi Oken’s abuse of power causes Kana more and more grief, no longer able to focus on what matters most: her pay cheque.

Then the threat drops: to avoid dismissal, Kana is ordered to sink to the lord’s level.

Set in the Four Free Areas, a technologically advanced world where Gods watch from rivers and fantastical arts are practiced by wizards and priests, Suddenly Calling is the fourth instalment of Treading Twisted Lines with Darren, Maddi, and Kai, a fantasy story cycle.

Beth received her Bachelors of Science and Arts in 2009, majoring in biomedical science, psychology, and Japanese. From July 2010 until July 2012, she worked in Kyoto, Japan, as an assistant English teacher. Her experiences there lent to the conception of the Treading Twisted Lines series, and continue to influence much of her writing. She currently works as a court transcriber.

A music enthusiast, Beth still sings soprano in the Queensland University Musical Society. She includes the adverb “still”, as versions of the previous sentence were also used in the about the author bios for The Chosen Voice, Under the Bright Water, and The Rat (Books 1, 2, and 3 of the Treading Twisted Lines series), all originally published in 2012. It is now 2015. Beth remains in a state of mild shock that, after more than two years, she has finally completed and published Book 4 of the Treading Twisted Lines series. She also concedes the original label of “fantasy short story cycle” no longer strictly applies to this series, given the unintended length of Book 4. However, she is content to call the series a “fantasy story cycle”.

Author Bio:
S.L. Carpenter and Sahara Kelly have been co-writing for over a dozen years. This is unusual for a couple of reasons…first, they’re separated geographically by the entire USA. Scott Carpenter is a Californian, and Sahara Kelly lives as far east as you can go without getting your feet wet. They talk on their phones a lot. And there’s the gender thing – Scott’s a “he” (with wife and kids) and Sahara’s a “she” (husband, one kid and two cats). These challenges aside, a chance meeting online led to a collaboration that has resulted in many novels, all featuring steamy and passionate romance mixed with their trademark humor. Both share a love of fun, and it shows! They tend to write realistic characters, with Scott writing most of the hero’s parts and Sahara complimenting him with her range of heroines. Eccentric, slightly off-the-wall and always unexpected, a Carpenter-Kelly novel is guaranteed to raise a sweat and bring more than a few laughs to the readers and fans they’ve amassed over the last twelve years. They have no plans to stop doing what they’re doing – it’s just too darn much fun!

Our most popular pages among authors is our author interviews. Other authors give out tips that help them promote their books. I highly encourage you to fill out an author interview.
We have teamed up with Bookgoodies and have our own Awesome section on their forum. I encourage you to join if you want to chat with other authors in a drama free zone.
Happy reading and happy writing
