In the Shadows

in the shadow book coverAbout In the Shadows:

When the love of her past-life turns up, things hot up for Lucy Blaisdell. Trouble is, which of the feuding pair offers genuine romance, and which is just out for revenge? There’s also the small matter of a witch to contend with – or is it a gentler magic the mysterious Ellen offers with her overtures of friendship?

It’s easy to fall for Alex Craven’s good looks and witty charm, but it’s Nathan Harlow’s dark and brooding, almost rude manner, that teenager Lucy can’t help but find herself being drawn to. To make things even messier, there’s no love lost between Nathan and Alex, and their history seems to go back a long way…

Right back to a dark past-life in the Napoleonic era, if Lucy’s increasingly strange and seductive dreams are to be believed.

When the past catches up with them, disaster strikes, and Lucy must learn the truth about her past-life before history repeats itself.

When Shelly Foreman opens an upscale boutique above an old abandoned silver mine, it’s the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. She’s a talented still-life visual Artiste who’s quickly forging a name for herself in South Chicago. But as exciting as the venture might be, Shelly harbors an ache inside that no amount of creative success can soothe. For a decade now her father has been missing, and even though he was far from the perfect parent, Shelly feels grief-stricken and all alone in the world.

After pulling up stakes in Baltimore and moving to Chicago on a whim to find him, Shelly still has mixed feelings about reuniting with her no-account father. She searches tirelessly for him on the mean unforgiving streets of the inner city. A run of heartbreaking incidents turns their bittersweet reunion into a free-for-all, and Shelly and her father are left with a strained relationship, unresolved feelings and a lot of unanswered questions.

Then all hell breaks loose. Crazy scary sightings and mysterious transactions take place in the creepy 18th Century dress shop across the street from her store, and a local den of thieves begins to torment the small group of unsuspecting business owners in the run-down community. If only Shelly had the love and support of her estranged father, a private detective and all-around tough guy, she might feel safe once more.

Author Bio:
On July 27, 2014 I self-published my first attempt at writing in the form of a YA haunting thriller. I have always had a love hate relationship with books in many genres. Suspense thrillers are my passion and comic books as well. In the future I will put together a series of social commentary graphic novels for readers of all ages. A year ago the unique characters in my personal journal goaded me into pulling their stories together and bringing them to life on the pages of a “real” hair-raising eBook. I’ve decided to tell their story, not my own.

I reside in Midtown Baltimore, Maryland with my disabled son and our amazing rescue Cat named Sam. When I’m not writing or reading I can be found engrossed in a Sci-Fi movie on the weekends. My favorite Classic Book is “Pride and Prejudice” by my all time favorite Author Jane Austen. I aspire to channel her gracious spirit into my writing and hope that her many fans will indulge me in my fantasy of having her somehow validate my work and hopefully make her proud.

Unless you have been living under a rock lately, there has been a huge influx of focus on people’s behinds. Butts are a super important part to work out when you want to get fit and into shape for two reasons.

First of all, the gluteus are one of the less worked muscle groups and one that will help you burn more calories when you focus on them due to their connection with your core, (a two for one!) and second, it will help you keep balance with your figure while you’re in the process of working and toning the rest of your body.

I also wanted to include some power foods to help you slim down, tone up and feel better without going into a maddening diet. These snacks will keep you full.

Lucy Green Eyes

Lucy Green EyesAbout Lucy Green Eyes:

“Oh, how I wished I could’ve told her what had happened. How I wished I could’ve let go and allowed the tears to spill. But I knew that if I had cried, Mama would’ve asked me what the matter was. And if I had told her the truth, she would’ve said that I was lying. And if she thought that I was lying . . . well, you know the rest.

Still, I wonder . . . did she know?

Did anyone know?

Didn’t everyone know?”

Lucy Green Eyes is a true story based on actual events in the life of Merlene McDaniel as told from her eyes growing up in the small town of Swansea, South Carolina. It is an emotional cacophony of a young girl’s battles against the tribulations of illegitimacy, molestation and feelings of rejection. And although she spends much of her early years dodging the stinging switches of an overly-strict grandmother, yearning for the embrace of a part-time mother, hoping for a smile from an oncoming stranger, and running from dirty old men, Merlene’s inner strength allows her to ride on the wings of endless hope. And we can’t help but ride along.

I am offering Lucy Green Eyes, which has received 4.4 stars on Amazon, free for 2 days on June 21 & June 22. After that, it will be available on Kindle for $2.99 and in paperback for $10.99.

Author Bio:
I was born in South Carolina but moved to New York when I was three years old. I went to Professional Children’s School in NYC where I was exposed to the arts. Although I loved writing from the time that I was eight years old, the passion was fueled after I got into high school and college where I majored in it.

Once I was old enough to hold a pencil correctly, I began writing stories about getting the baby sister that I so badly yearned for. I’d write every night before bed until one day my mom told my older brother and me that she was going to have a baby. We were both beyond ecstatic, although my brother cried when we learned that the baby was a girl. I screamed for joy because I finally had my sister. Then about a year later, my mom gave us a little brother. Four years after that, we got another baby sister and two years later, another sister. Moral of the story: BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WRITE FOR.

The idea for Lucy Green Eyes came into thought in 1997. My mother would always talk about what her life was like as a young girl having to run from her strict grandmother’s switches, and dodging dirty old men in the cotton field, outrunning trucks that would be in hot pursuit and finding ways to become invisible to her molester. Then one day my sister and I said, “Hey Ma, your life can be a book.” Hence the birth of Lucy Green Eyes.

Breaking TWIG

8 x 10 updatedAbout Breaking TWIG:

Set in the rural South in the 60s and 70s, Breaking TWIG tells the story of thirteen-year-old Becky (Twig) Cooper, who is trying to survive the physical and emotional abuse of her mother, Helen, a calculating woman who can, with a mere look, send the meanest cur in Sugardale, Georgia running for its life. Not even Twig’s vivid imagination and keen wit are enough to help her endure the assaults of Helen and a new stepbrother, but help comes from an unexpected source—Frank, her stepfather. Sometimes, having one person who believes in you is all a girl needs to keep hope alive.

Over the next eight years, Becky’s tumultuous struggle to prevail—becoming neither a “pick” (victim) nor a “picker” (abuser)—finds her bouncing back and forth between Helen’s abuse and Frank’s tenderness as she fights to win this desperate battle of souls.
Just as she begins to feel life holds some promise, Becky’s world crumbles. On Halloween night, she and Helen argue and all lies are stripped away. Now that she knows the shocking truth about her mother, Becky must make a fateful decision—one that can give her the freedom she craves or destroy forever the new life and new love she has finally found.

Sprinkled with all the southern flavoring found in a hearty bowl of chicken and dumplings, Breaking TWIG is about finding love where we least expect it, destroying lives with easy lies, and realizing each of us determine our own truth.

Out of the Shoebox by Yaron Reshef

OutoftheShoeboxAbout Out of the Shoebox by Yaron Reshef:

“Out of the Shoebox” is a fascinating journal that reads like a detective story, comes across as an imaginative quest into the past, yet is the true personal story of the writer, Yaron Reshef. An unexpected phone call hurls Reshef into an intensive two-year journey, during which he has to solve a mystery that took shape in the 1930s and gradually unfolded in the present. A mysterious lot, a forgotten bank account, a people long gone – along with their memory which were obliterated during the Holocaust. All of these rise to the surface, bearing with them memories and emotions previously hidden away in the shoebox.
“I had no intention of writing a book. I had no need to write a story in general nor a story about my family and the Holocaust in particular. But life being what it is, sometimes things happen in mysterious, even surprising ways. Stuff that used to take center stage moves to the background, and background stuff moves downstage and center. That’s what happened in my case.” (Yaron Reshef)
