I am the first born child of a baker and a housewife and I think it’s very much due to my parents’ loving, accepting natures that my life has always been happy and straightforward. Born in 1973 in Brisbane, I became a teacher – my life never straying far from the institution of education.

As a child, I was a voracious reader. Whether I was on one of our numerous family holidays, travelling to my younger brother’s incessant sporting events or just lazing around at home, I was reading. It was a running joke in our family, that I never had my nose out of a book. My parents eventually learned not to pester me about the life I was ‘missing’ beyond those beloved pages; I didn’t care. I was living hundreds of lives vicariously.

When I met Delia, that changed. She opened the world of writing for me and I experienced for the first time the wonder of creating, rather than just experiencing.

In everyday life, I am encouraged by many wonderful friends, my brother and my father, but no-one is a greater champion for me than David, the man I live with and the love of my life. Although he mourns the loss of our online gaming time together, his encouragement and enthusiasm for my writing is boundless. Of course, being a full time teacher makes it difficult to devote as much time to it as I’d like, but wordcrafting is my passion.

I was born in Auckland, New Zealand in 1973 and arrived in Brisbane in 1987. The amount of books I’d had to leave behind appalled me. I’d always been a reader, but when I was ten I made friends with a girl who loved to write stories. Once I discovered writing I couldn’t stop.

In reading I gravitated to stories of peculiar places and happenings and my writing hasn’t strayed from that. I was always a fan of fantasy; I preferred to read about a genie popping out of a toothpaste tube than stories that mirrored real life. They captured my imagination and revealed multiple possibilities. There were no constraints on fantasy – anything I thought up was achievable.

In high school I met Linda, who became my closest friend in life. My enthusiasm for writing stories together led to us beginning awful horror novel together but after a few weeks (or maybe months?) of that, I had a better idea. We started planning and writing a fantasy instead, about Wanderers.

In the middle of writing with Linda, I’d written a handful of short stories and sent them off to magazines and short story collections. Most of them were accepted and published, giving me the acknowledgement I needed from people in the industry.

In 2013 I wrote a science fantasy called Femme – a world I’d borrowed out of the Wanderer books that I was writing with Linda. During National Novel Writing Month (affectionately known as NaNoWriMo), I got the bulk of it out and I finished it on Christmas Eve. I published it in May 2014 after many rewrites and edits. It’s a soft-hearted story, I would call it light entertainment.

In my private life I’m married and have a daughter. I have two cats who love to come for cuddles when I’m sleeping, writing or about to get up.
