The Thirteenth Tower by Sara C. Snider

ThirteenthTowerCoverAbout The Thirteenth Tower by Sara C. Snider:
In adversity lies strength beyond imagining.

Abandoned as a baby, young Emelyn’s life as a housemaid in the quiet village of Fallow is unremarkable—and empty. That is, until a host of magical creatures arrives and inflicts terrible misdeeds on the townsfolk. Inexplicably immune to their enchantments, Emelyn joins a pair of Magi intent on stopping the cause of the trouble—and who claim to know of her parents, promising Emelyn answers to a lifetime of questions.

But the answers Emelyn seeks prove to be more elusive than she hoped, and the world outside Fallow more perilous than she imagined. Magical creatures roam the land over, attacking yet another town before coming after Emelyn. The key to her survival—and finding her family—lies deep within her, if only she can conquer her doubts and believe she is more powerful than she ever dreamed.

In a journey that explores facing one’s fears amidst the uncertainties of an unknown world, The Thirteenth Tower is a magical tale of discovery, growth, and of love’s enduring strength.

A life-long jogger, Kirk Alex loves jazz, books, cycling, Boston terriers & pit bulls. He has spent time in Los Angeles, Chicago, Kentucky, Louisiana, Kansas, Southeast Asia, Germany, Arizona & Indiana––not necessarily in that order.

His novel Lustmord: Anatomy of a Serial Butcher was a finalist in the Kindle Book Review’s Best Kindle Book Awards of 2014. He is also the writer/director of Lunch Meat, an acclaimed micro-budget horror film shot on Kodachrome 40 in 14 days, as well as the author of Ziggy Popper at Large & other stories.

His favorite crime novel is Derek Raymond’s I Was Dora Suarez; his favorite horror writers are Edgar Allan Poe & Jack Ketchum. Kirk is partial to the short stories of Charles Bukowski & Plez Gehman for their outrageous humor. In addition to the above, he digs the hell out of Sean Chercover’s private eye novels for their Chicago backdrop and authentic tone. Favorite playwrights (to read) are Eugene O’Neil & August Strindberg.

The Protest

The-Protest-Memoir-CoverAbout The Protest:

The Protest, a fictional memoir, is inspired by the real-life religious hijacking of the author’s two daughters, ages 10 and 12.

Janey Powers has broken away from her small town fundamentalist upbringing after being seduced by her minister and is building a new life for herself and her two daughters in Washington. But her freedom has a price. She is being stalked by her former minister, Reverend Logan Churlick, mouthpiece of God, who will stop at nothing to possess Janey’s heart and soul and will not hesitate to use her daughters to win her. After Churlick establishes paternity in court, Janey fights to protect her children as they become enmeshed in their battle, innocent victims of a firebombing by the blood of the lamb. Janey faces the unthinkable as she puts into play a desperate strategy Churlick could not foresee – but will it save her girls or will she lose them forever?

Author Bio:
I am a lover of Writing and Reading Books as well as Garden Expert who likes to Smell the Roses…and Gardenias…and Heliotrope…

I live on two acres in western Washington and have a large organic garden and huge greenhouse to grow my starts from seed. After twenty years here, you’d never know I was strictly a city girl. Clearly, it seems I’ve become an earth muffin.

I was born in Michigan and was the oldest of seven children. I graduated magna cum laude from Whitworth University with a BA in English, but I swear I am not the type to silently correct you. I taught high school English for several years, and was one of those crazy English teachers who recited my favorite poem in a Bronx accent or would wear a blonde wig to class to teach Transcendentalism. Before I got my teaching credential, I wore a totally different hat and provided executive support to a U.S. Congressman, a hospital CEO, and a two-year college President.

Currently, I’m working on several writing projects. – See more at: http://www.diannekbunnell.com

The Protest was chosen as “Reviewer’s Choice” by Midwest Review of Books.

At a reading I did at a university in North Carolina, a Kafka quote was used to introduce my book:

“If the book we are reading does not wake us, as with a fist hammering on our skulls, then why do we read it? …What we must have are those books that come on us like ill fortune, like the death of one we love better than ourselves, like suicide. A book must be an ice axe to break the sea frozen inside us.”

Author Bio:
Bill’s love of reading commenced at a very young age. He credits his Gran for encouraging his interest by regularly taking him to the local library after primary school. At boarding school, when the lights went out in his dormitory, he was often encouraged by the other boys to tell stories. English Literature was always his favourite school subject.

A long and successful career in IT saw him live and travel all over the world. With hindsight it was the start of his writing fiction but they were called business proposals in those days! Having always enjoyed different cultures, the one life lesson Bill has learned is “wherever you go you will find good and bad people. This is not determined by colour, race, religion or country.”

Recently retired from the corporate world, Bill has finally fulfilled his lifelong ambition to become an author and has now written three thrillers, with the expectation of many more to follow.

Bill lives in Brighton, UK with his German partner and has seven daughters, a son, two horses, a dog and two cats! When he’s not writing he’s probably watching his football team West Brom, who he has now been watching for over fifty years!
