Ami DeJong is my name. My writing is inspired by real life experiences and the different ways of people that i have witnessed all over the world.
Most of the people i know these days, myself included, get caught up occasionally in the fast pace of modern life and communicate to others in such a way that appears to be more like managing than actually relating. Often the respect may not be given to the other to also relate so we get separation and isolation instead which can easily lead to negative feelings between us.
I notice though that when someone takes the time to tell the truth, it’s usually very much appreciated. In fact it can come as a relief from stress that builds up from being untrue.
This inspires me. Part of my intention in writing this book is to tell the truth and have most or all the characters telling the truth most of the time. The result seems to be refreshing.
Also i wanted to communicate somethings about sex and intimacy through the characters because this is a very rich place of exploration.
It seems to me that intimacy is the “daring adventure” that Helen Keller was referring to; intimacy with life itself. So i wanted to give the reader an escape from being managers. Our beliefs can get in the way of all that truly matters. They can get in the way of actual knowing for what is a belief but a thought or a pattern of thought that has been repeated frequently enough to be accepted as true?
And there is such a thing as a cultural belief. These are beliefs that are accepted as truths by most people but are in fact are often based upon very limited information.
Many of the beliefs the average man or woman holds to be true about sex are extremely limited.
For example: do you realize that the sex energy is the basis for your spiritual energy and your heart energy? Have you ever heard anyone say that before? You probably have heard something similar by now but the idea is pretty new and still has a long way to go in the consciousness of most of us before it makes the transition from idea, to experiment, to belief to actual experience and knowing it to be so.
We have created a very great division by a cultural belief in sex as being opposed to higher levels of experience and an immediate felt sense of oneness with the divine.
Anyway, i prefer not to postulate too much. It makes me feel serious and that’s no fun at all. There’s something in seriousness that also feels contrary to the truth in a given moment.
Suffice to say though, that this is a pretty rich place to explore for most of us. I love bringing up the question because i feel that it’s an important one for each and everyone of us to answer for ourselves.
So coming back to the characters in the book. Most of them seem to really have a lot of passion and longing in them. This i find to be a basic truth of all people even if hidden from view at first glance. They also seem hilarious to me at times and then at other times they make me want to cry.
I wrote sometimes whole chapters crying, as the reality of whatever a particular character may have been experiencing was unbearable and their response so courageous. In the circumstances in which he or she may have been finding themselves they always seem to come through, just as we in ordinary life do.
The main thing in writing this book is that i wanted to connect with the reader on a very human level and inspire you to explore this realm with me. If you find your self laughing or crying at any point in the book, know that i am right with you.
Have you ever heard the saying, “That which is most personal is most universal?” In A New Way of Loving you may find your self getting increasingly curious and eventually perhaps embarking on a journey your self to discover if there really is such a thing as a new way of loving. If you do i’m sure you will find it. It really does exist and all you need, is to know this to be true.
