Author Bio:
Linda Naomi Katz born on March 21, 1969, by the name of Linda Naomi Baron, raised as a modern orthodox Jew, where mental illness became a factor throughout her life. It had started with her mother when she was in the fifth grade. Her mother had suffered a nervous breakdown and was diagnosed with acute depression. This gave Linda and her family a huge amount of stress. As she was growing up into adulthood, her mother’s illness affected her in ways that she too would become a depressed person. Linda had difficulties making friends, developing positive relationships, and maintaining employment. After she graduated college, she also suffered from a mental illness and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

Through the years she was faced with challenges that were difficult to overcome, but worked hard to achieve recovery. As part of her recovery from mental illness, she became active and volunteered for a variety of mental health organizations. Linda became a member of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness or formerly called National Alliance for the Mentally Ill) and published articles about her life in New York City Voices, a newspaper for people with mental illness to share their personal recovery stories. Both of these agencies helped fight against stigma and other issues pertaining to mental illness. Soon after, Linda found employment working for agencies that help others with mental illness reach their goals and dreams. Today, Linda is happily married, an author who has published a book titled Surviving Mental Illness, My Story which won a Silver Medal Award by Readers Favorite for best non-fiction/autobiography and came in First Place and won the Life Journeys Award for best memoir/biography from Readers Views. Through this book she describes all of her challenges that she dealt with while having a mental illness and how she found her way back towards establishing a wellness by staying mentally and physically strong.

Ring of Fire: An Alaskan Adventure

cover3About Ring of Fire: An Alaskan Adventure:

Master hunting guide Hank Waters, a former Navy pilot, runs a wilderness lodge on the Alaska Peninsula. The opportunity of his career comes when Prince Tariq, the Crown Prince of Rahman, arrives in Alaska to hunt brown bear. Waters has always been ambivalent about guiding his wealthy clients to hunt the bears that he loves, and his fears are not groundless. Exploiting their privilege, the Prince’s men violate one law after another in a rising spiral of transgression. Can Hank Waters and his staff — Kim the young Aleut woman, Frenchy the irascible cook, Betty the victim of hopelessness — maintain order among so many men accustomed to having their way in the world? How far should Waters go to accommodate his guests in exchange for the money he will earn?

Set in the aftermath of the Persian Gulf War, far from the centers of civilization, this short novel charts the destructive collision of two worlds, the world of global power, finance, and high technology, and the world of the American past, independent, idealistic, and itself compromised by its excesses. In the wake of the tragedy that unfolds, the climactic bear hunt is charged with moral excitement. Ring of Fire is a parable of power and corruption and the fugitive virtues of simplicity and love.

Scareplane by Clint Gleason

Scareplane-72-dpiAbout Scareplane by Clint Gleason:

Free promotion on Amazon January 2-6th

There are many fears but we all have one in common: the dark. From birth to death, and no matter what age, we’ll choose to turn that light on. It’s instinct. It comes from some deep, primitive place within us. Darkness represents the unknown, that there could be something waiting to attack or watching with plans so sinister that we’d rather not think about it. Except being afraid can be fun when there are no consequences.

This collection of stories is a bit of that darkness, the unknown, the possibility that reading it might result in a sudden surge of adrenaline that spikes the heart rate, or causes goose flesh. Settle into your most comfortable reading place, where you feel the most safe. I promise that what you read in this eBook won’t hurt you, but don’t be surprised when the tales within begin seeping into your psyche…

*Includes: Him, World Savin’ Granny, Midnight Men, Hammock Spiders, Scarecrane, Scareplane, and Scaretrain

Author Bio:
My parents took me to see The Empire Strikes Back when I was four. I believe that profound experience started all this. I still remember the Hoth battle, the way my young mind saw it then, and that ending. The power of it. Does a story get any better than that? Since then filmmakers and authors have given me such intense, exciting, wonderful escapes from reality that I was eventually compelled to create my own worlds and hope to do for others what has been done for me. For a long time I wanted to make movies. I graduated from the Los Angeles Film School with a major in directing and it was there that I honed my storytelling. After a few of life’s speed bumps (author photo is me writing a screenplay in Iraq), I decided to turn my short story and movie ideas into fiction. What I write doesn’t require a 100 million dollar budget, only my time, and I get to do what I love: create a story from beginning to end, anticipate when it’s published, and then receive feedback from those who have read it. I mostly write novellas and I think it’s a result of reading experiences where I found a great book within a bloated and overwritten one. That’s not what I do, I write brisk, lean and mean stories that can be quite dark in tone. I learned long ago that the only way for me to be at my best was to not hold back, like many I admire. My hope is compelling fiction with a fast-paced cinematic feel. As a reader you can let me know if I succeed by writing a review. Independent authors like myself truly appreciate it. Mentioning what you liked or what you want more of helps us get better. Thank you for reading and thank you for your support.

Bass Instinct by Will Macmillan Jones

Bass-Instinct-Front-SmallAbout Bass Instinct by Will Macmillan Jones:

‘Tolkien meets Spinal Tap’!

Bass Instinct is the fourth book in The Banned Underground collection of comic fantasy books. Each is a stand-alone novel, needing no previous acquaintance with the characters.

The Banned Underground are a dwarf rhythm-and-blues band, led by a luminous green, saxophone playing bog troll with a passion for mushrooms, beer and pizza … and more beer … and for playing jazz, blues and rock ‘n’ roll, of course. The latest addition to the group is a bright red Welsh dragon who plays bass guitar. But he’s in trouble.
Dai the Drinking Dragon has been kidnapped by the Dark Lord for nefarious purposes, and by the Dark Lord’s dragon receptionist for even less reputable reasons. Without their bass player, the Banned Underground are now in deep trouble with their record label. They have to produce a set of recordings for an album, and someone has stolen the tapes from the last gig. Can they make some more recordings, or will Freya, the renegade dwarf bass player hired by the Dark Lord, distract the boys whilst the Dark Lord’s evil schemes come to fruition?

The Dark Lord has found some thugs to help him in his latest plan to invade the underground Dwarf Mansion he would like to own (as an alternative to his garden shed as a place to hide from his wife), but they have other things on their minds – like looting and pillaging the locals – and it’s all going wrong for him again.
Described on The Guardian newspaper’s book review pages as ‘Lord of The Rings as written by stand-up comic Milton Jones to the soundtrack of Led Zeppelin IV’, The Banned Underground series is an underground hit, full of both crackling one-liners and more subtle jokes.

Will Macmillan Jones lives in Wales, a lovely green, verdant land with a rich cultural heritage. He does his best to support this heritage by drinking the local beer and shouting loud encouragement whenever International Rugby is on the TV. A fifty something lover of blues, rock and jazz he has just fulfilled a lifetime ambition by filling an entire wall of his home office with (full) bookcases. When not writing, he is usually lost with the help of a satnav on top of a large hill in the middle of nowhere, looking for dragons.
