This book hopefully inspires an open minded curiosity to find answers that ring true for you and fill your life with awe, wonder and a sense of peace in knowing your truths. An open mind and curiosity have led me throughout my life to question everything that doesn’t at first sit right with me. If it doesn’t sit right, I want to know why not and if it does sit right I want to know why too. I have found that for me a least, so many things in life seem unknowable, I have learnt to embrace this. The unknowable leaves me with a sense of wonder and awe and I like that feeling. I believe we are all connected to source energy and that finding answers for ourselves connects us more consciously rather than unconsciously to it. When we choose to be consciously connected we become more able to experience joy and peace in life. This book contains two parts, part one I have called ‘what floats my boat’ and covers ponderings and questions I have tried to answer for myself. Are they the same questions you have? What questions do you ask? Part two is entitled ‘what gets my goat’ and covers topical things that I have an opinion on. Part two is in a slightly different vein to part one but hopefully equally inspires further open minded digging and delving into your truth about this life.

Those of you who know me even a little, will know I’m a fairly private and often happily solitary person. It took some courage to publish A Personal Philosophy, but I did it! Just like anything else in life, some will like it and some won’t, that’s what makes the world go around. It’s strange how detached I feel from it right now, I spent so long writing and reading, re-reading and editing that I think I’m a bit numb, almost like I haven’t written it at all. It feels a bit surreal. I hope that anyone who reads it comes away with at least one little thing that was worth reading it for, whether you bought it, borrowed it or got it for free.
I had the idea that I’d write a book called A Personal Philosophy, almost three decades ago. I really find it hard to believe that no one else has used that title in all that time! I know it’s not the most catchy or attention grabbing title but it has stuck with me all these years. I can also say that for most of the ‘almost three decades’ I didn’t give much thought to the book at all, I just got on with my life. One thing is for sure, the book couldn’t have been written any sooner, it’s just fascinating to me that I had the notion all those years ago.
There was certainly no indication throughout my school years or beyond that I would write anything bigger than an essay. I did go on to write a dissertation which was challenging, but this ‘book’ is something different altogether. I wasn’t a particularly academic child and through childhood into adulthood art and crafts are where I’ve been drawn. Having said that, many jobs I’ve had over the years have been in the education system in one way or another. I’m a qualified art teacher and have taught art and ceramics in secondary schools as well as ceramics in adult education. In the summer of 2013 I left full time employment, since then I’ve worked on a few arty projects and I guess, having more time on my hands, the idea of the book began to resurface, which brings us up to date. A very broad overview of my career and how the book came into existence.
